  1. I am greatly impressed by the fancy molds on the pages of this website, Adam! It would have been quite something to sit down to a meal in those days to see what elaborate designs were presented at the table. Beautiful! Thanks for the link!
  2. Which was precisely what I thought when I first picked this topic! Andiesenji has a lot of items for the kitchen, both modern and vintage!
  3. Holy cow! You do know your dim sum, Blissful Glutton! I will avoid the options you mention and return to Happy Valley momentarily ...Many thanks for the updated information!
  4. Most recipes call for using only a few teaspoons or maybe tablespoons of lemon juice .. but, if you are serious about wanting to use 2/3 of a cup? My first choice based, upon my personal preferences: Lemon Meringue Pie! and this is the recipe I cherish and always use: The very best lemon meringue pie yet!
  5. After Oriental Pearl closed, I went back again to Happy Valley as well and was quite pleased with the new items being offered ... everything was kept piping hot and was quite delightful .. recently, however, I did happen to try Hong Kong Harbor on Cheshire Bridge and was very pleased with the selections and the service there as well ... it has been in the metro Atlanta area for a long time. And then the reopening of Canton House on Buford Highway has proven to be more than a little pleasing ... for a city of this size, I still wish there were many more options for dim sum however... and I still miss Oriental Pearl's shrimp dishes ... 8. By now most members here have seen and marveled at Rachel Perlow's shimmering rainbow jello mold. It made me aware of how different foods can be molded into delights for the eye as well as the palate. After a bit of searching, I found some great examples of molds for presentation: variety of food molds these at eBay molds from Victorias Past and then there are people who simply opt to use a loaf pan to mold their creations as in this delightful fruit mold a Berry and Banana Terrine ... Do you have any molds to use to display your cooking beautifully? Do you bake foods in molds for a more "finished" and sophisticated look?
  9. Crumb topping for Coffeecakes Serves 12 as Dessert. This recipe makes a large amount of streusal topping and can be used for two cakes depending on how much cake topping is desired. 3 sticks of butter 2-1/4 c white sugar 3 c all purpose flour 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon Mix well in a food processor or in a large bowl with a pastry cutter. Put into the refrigerator overnight, covered, or in the freezer for 1 1/2 hours. This is better when frozen first! Crumble by hand over the baked coffeecake. Keywords: Easy, Topping/Frosting, Kosher, Dessert, Cake ( RG1589 )
  10. Actually, Anna, somewhere in the depths of the files of eGullet, Rachel Perlow explains that it is not particularly difficult ... to me it looks quite complex ...
  11. The people who work in grocery stores rarely know much about their wine departments or are not available when people come in late in the day or evening .. with this wine kiosk idea, it will provide assistance at all hours of the day ... or so I assume ...
  12. How cool is this? Thanks for some great ideas, Randi!

  16. I couldn't agree with you more, Blissful ..a city of the size of Atlanta should produce more varieties of Mexican cuisine, and from all areas of Mexico, actually. I, too, was quite displeased when one of the most authentic and gourmet Mexican restaurants, Oh Maria! closed its doors in Buckhead ... at that time, Bill Addison of Creative Loafing concluded: CL article here
  17. The website, if you scroll up to my post, you'll see that Devereaux is in an old (1902) cigar factory in downtown Greenville ... 25 East Court Street on Olde Town Square.

    Carrot dicer?

Okay, jgm, I know that I am buying this one and am so grateful to you for "snapping" it up to find the link! Alligator indeed! It looks, at first glance, to be a variation on an egg slicer ... The Alligator is so much more inexpensive than these dicers
  21. This is the crumb topping that I often use, when I have the extra time ... makes a lot of topping so that one can save some for another cake ... 3 sticks of butter 2 1/4 Cups Sugar 3 Cups Flour 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon Mix well and then put into the refrigerator overnight or freezer for 1 1/2 hrs... Better when frozen first .. not certain why exactly ... but it is good!
  22. They don't call me Google Gourmet for nothing, you realize ... Glad to bring you the latest trivia, Rebel Rose ... Say, isn't that Giuseppe Verdi opera called La Triviata? Now back to counting my tastebuds for wine distinctions .. carry on ...
