Have been tasked by the boss for finding a place near Waterloo for a (fairly highly powered) client lunch.

Thinking RSJ or Baltic, but don't know about ambience (don't want something too buzzy - quiet and plush will do down well)

anyone have any comments to offer or alternate options around the area? (alas Chez Bruce probably just that bit too far).

The County Hall restaurant is usually good for a business lunch. They also have numerous private rooms if you want to be that discrete.

I recall enjoying dinner at RSJ plus they have a very good winelist specialising in Loire wines...

Not sure either Baltic or RSJ is right if ambience is more important than food

I have recently taken Clients to Axis ( underneath No1 The Aldwych ) the food was fine and the setting fitted the bill very well

Jon,

Just to add to what's been said -- I have been to both Baltic and RSJ and would concur that RSJ would be better -- Baltic is cool but a bit twenty-something flashy for a client lunch.

I've always enjoyed RSJ (only been pre-theatre) -- it's quiet but it's not that plush and beware the service can be a bit ... idiosyncratic ... it would be fine if the high-powered clients were foodies but if they're the type to go for Conran-style then you might be better off at the People's Palace or Oxo Tower [ducks to anticipate Majumdar-grenade].

Let us know how you get on.

wouldn't say Baltic is plush. The bar is lively, great selection of cocktails and vodka. The restaurant is quite bare with high ceilings, open beams and lots of light. Food was quite good to good not outstanding.

What about The Admiralty at Somerset House, nice walk over the new Hungerford Bridge...?
