OOOH grape leaves! i know for sure that the produce department at my Wegmans (Ithaca #71 woot!) sells those when they are available! if you cant find them at the store please please ask a representative if they could check the order guide for availability of grape leaves (or anything else you might have in mind). if you still cant get what youre looking for, ask for a manager or get a comment card from the front-of-the-house. (we read every single word!)

Just came back from opening day of the Woodbridge, NJ store--and I'm happy to say it is not a letdown in comparison to the Princeton store. It is "as good" a Wegmans as Princeton is--which bodes very well for Virginia as Virginia will be as well--though there is no Wegmans wine store in Woodbridge as in Princeton, which surprised me. Not underwhelming me was the much-touted tandoor oven in Woodbridge--I had a fine tandoor chicken wrap in naan with some Indian-inspired roasted cauliflower for $7.99. I asked Llewelyn, the chef, what was available from the tandoor and that was it for the moment--nothing can be ordered cooked to order specifically from the tandoor yet--it all goes into wrap sandwiches and onto the $5.99 buffet/steam table--but he hoped to add a la carte grill items after the opening crush was over. Bad news for us--we're not getting a tandoor in VA. It was interesting how I got to meet Llewelyn--I was just standing there, taking in the amazing scene which will utterly blow away Whole Foods--and a nice guy with a nametag that said Joe came up to me and asked what I thought of it all--so I told him. Turns out he's the manager of the Princeton Wegmans and Joe walked me up to Llewelyn, asked him to come out of the kitchen to meet me and reveal some of his plans for the tandoor for me--pretty typical Wegmans approach to customer service, every customer matters, every question matters.

I can't wait.

Didn't see any grape leaves at the Woodbridge Wegmans, but they did have amazingly fresh banana leaves and the olive bar was about 40 feet long. Colleen was looking for some feta for a demo in NYC tomorrow and had 6 or 7 varieties to choose from. I was looking for powdered agar-agar and fleur de sel--neither of which they had. I wasn't surpised they didn't have the former, I was very surprised they didn't have the latter. It's on order.

A few days ago I saw a red pickup driving around capitol hill with a big sign on the side advertising the impending arrival of Wegmans in our area. It was also advertising jobs, but there were no specifics other than to call 1-877-Wegmans to apply.

The parking lot's finally paved, they've got the sign on the front, and there's now a drive-through window - not sure if they're putting in a bank, a pharmacy, or planning on doing food drive through (although it did look more like a bank/pharmacy window.)

It's great to hear that one's opening in Hunt Valley, MD. I go to 2-3 sci-fi/fantasy conventions there a year, and one thing we always are in need of is bargain eats (since the mall closed down, we lost a main source of food within walking distance of the hotel, and get stuck waiting for hours outside Carabbas or Outback). Having ready-to-go meals, regular groceries/snacks (at good prices, if Princeton's any indication) will be nothing short of a godsend to us hungry geeks!

The drive through is indeed for the Pharmacy! I actually walked up to the inside of the VA store today and the inside looks great! The pharmacy looks near completion, the checkouts and lights are installed and painted wall murals appear to be complete.

I really enjoy Meh23's website updates! I have some family that is still very actively involved with Wegmans and one will be assisting with the VA store opening. I also used to work for Wegmans for a few years and moved to the Northern VA area almost five years ago. I work in Sterling and I know that once the store opens ALL of my grocery shopping will be done at Wegmans.

For those who have not been to a store it is hard to express how drastically different the shopping experience is vs. the local competition.

For a moment put aside all of the state of the art ovens, world renowned pastry/chocolate shop, incredible selections of produce, seafood, etc. and the one thing alone that should blow you away is the customer service! If you EVER have a problem or a concern I don't think there is a store in the DC metro area (next to Nordstrom) that would take care of you like this.

I can not wait for the store opening!

Wegmans Dulles store will be opening on February 29th. (Thanks to Joe H. for posting this on that OTHER site that won't allow mention of our cool site).

They are having a drawing for five $5,000 shopping sprees for people who sign up online for their Shopper's Club card (why must every store use these damn things?)

I'm with you.

I'm there, once I figure out where the hell Columbia Place in Dulles is (my Rand McNally Address Finder doesn't seem to know ). Wegman's sounds really cool. Does anybody have any info on when the Fairfax store is opening? TIA.

Something cool that the Princeton store does (or at least used to) is have a chef there everyday during lunch cooking up a dish for free sampling that they then give out the recipe to. I got some really great recipes from the chef there that I still use. Wonder if the DC stores will do something similar.

I have some updated Under Construction Photos fresh from the Wintranet!

Click Dulles Construction!

Also, it says Fairfax will be opening 4Q 2004. No specific date yet.

See you at the Dulles Grand Opening. If any pictures are released I will try to load those, too.

mehmeh, I was dreaming of Wegman's when I shopped at the Godawful Safeway (and we won't even go into my guilt at shopping at Safeway at all these days...) at Fairfax Town Center this weekend.

Can't wait for Q4 2004!

I am SO there. You're also welcome to ride over in my "sexy" car! :raz:

I wish I were eligible for one of the $5K shopping sprees, but I already have my Shoppers card. I signed up at the Woodbridge, NJ opening last November, but would have waited if I'd known about the online sweepstakes. Good luck to everyone else!

Of course, if any of us win, we have to agree to host a major culinary blow out.

A marketing buddy once told me that Wegman's invented the grocery store shopper's card. Don't know if that's true or not. Can anyone confirm?
