I need to find Pomelo for the salad course for the first Les Marmitonsevent of the year coming up on September 20th. I'm not finding it here in NJ and the Ugli fruit that IS available, is not giving me my desired result, that is breaking up into matchstick sized nodules. Any help is appreciated.

At my local source I was told a few weeks ago that they're currently out of season -- though this site would suggest otherwise.

My local Asian groceries have piles of them at the moment, imported from Thailand. They can't possibly be out of season.

Too bad that Berlin and New Jersey are so far from one another.

Have you considered trying with pink grapefruit instead? It's a bit sourer than pomelo, usually, but tends to hold together okay, and you do get the nice color effect as well.

If you can consider having Malaysian pomelo airfreighted over, you may want to pm Paradasia who's a member of this board. That link is from his website. If I'm not mistakened, he's currently in Canada. The Malaysian Tambun pomelo is juicier and tastier than the Chinese breed. It's definitely in season because it's one of the festive fruits for the Mooncake festival.

I haven't seen pomelo at the farmers' market yet this year here in CA.

We're just heading into the citrus season, and about the only local stuff available in any volume are valencia oranges.
