Mail order pulled pork

Recommended Posts

If you have any friends or relatives in the Northeast who live near a Wegman's or Price Chopper grocery store, they both sell frozen packages of pulled pork from Dinosaur Barbecue. It's a Syracuse NY BBQ joint (also now a location in Rochester) - they produce and sell a one pound selaed pack of pulle dpork that is phenomenal - truly excellent. Their sauce is good but fortunately there's only a small amount of sauce in the package - just a coating on the top. If you had it shipped by two day in a sealed package with a couple of icey things it might get through okay. I try to keep some Bone Suckin' Sauce around that I get when I'm down in NC and use that instead of using dino's sauce (their sauce is available by mail and it's very good but not Carolina style).

Does worthwhile mail order pulled pork exist? Suggestions/websites?

I've ordered Texas brisket mail order and it has been delicious.

Willie,

Do you remember where from you ordered the brisket? I posted on the 'mail order food' thread (on the special occasions forum) asking about that exact item, but got no replies. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your request.

Ronnie,

if you don't get an email from me in a few days on this subject, remind me, I do have the sites somewhere.

Try Maurices Piggy Park in Columbia SC. Maurice is a little notorious down the but it's great BBQ. Mustard based sauce-NOT vinegar based- gross! It's sweet. Also Corkys from Memphis ships pork. I prefer Memphis bbq over anything anywhere. Mom lives in SC and just can't believe how those guys will painstakingly smoke a butt all night, chop it and just soak it in white vinegar! Shame! Sorry i didn't provide links, but you'll find.

For authentic North Carolina (Eastern-style) pulled pork by mail, try the Oink Express at King's Barbecue:

or 1-800-332-6465.

Thrak, mustard-sauced barbecue is an abomination. :raz:

And by the way, no self-respecting barbecue chef in North Carolina would dress their 'cue with white vinegar... it's always *cider* vinegar, with red pepper flakes and maybe a touch of brown sugar added in.

For what it's worth, rumor has it that Dinosaur is going to open a New York City outpost in the near future.

Willie - Since I got a pretty good smoker awhile back, I have no longer have a need to order pulled pork. I just do my own. Ditto for brisket and other items. That said, below are links to a number of sources that I have ordered from previously that you may want to consider. If forced to, I would give the edge to Maurice's but they all are pretty good in their own way. Just a matter of personal preference and taste. Might be interesting and fun to get a small order from each source with their respective house sauces and do a pulled pork "tasting".

Ronnie - Regarding your quest for mail order brisket, there are tons of places in Texas that ship great brisket. Try a search on Google. I used to get mine from a joint on South Padre Island that was excellent. Can't recall the name but, if I locate it later, I'll post it. Also, If you have not already seen it, you may want to link to the thread below started by chefrodrigo regarding his tour of Texas BBQ spots. Everytime I look at it I get ravenous. One spot mentioned prominently is Smitty's. I've been there a couple of times and the BBQ is outstanding. I'm pretty sure they do mail order. If so, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Not exactly "mail order" but one of the guys at Allen and Son (chapel hill, nc) once told me that he's more than happy to pack up a bunch of whatever you want and ship it off to you. Classic NC pork bbq cooked over wood (no gas!). Not sure that they have a website but you'll find many mentions of Allen's on this board (Southeast) if you do a search. When I'm down that way, I usually get a huge take out order for the 3 hour drive back home and eat off of it for several days.

I'd bet it's still good after overnight shipment.

I've been very happy with the mailorder service from Corky's BBQ in Memphis. They're prompt and with FedEx using Memphis as a hub the food gets out overnight

try www.corkysbbq.com
