I've made this dessert many times over the last 20 years or so, since my friend Nigel showed me. The very first time, he mentioned adding cinnamon, but added, "That's an English thing."

Last night I added a sprinkling of cinnamon. What can I say? It was the best I've ever made.

Coming next: carbonara with cream?
