What is Meant by "Crushed Red Pepper" in This Recipe?

My first reaction is to add some Aleppo or similar dried pepper to the recipe, but do you think that is what the recipe calls for?

I'd say you can use whatever you want -- variations on this recipe abound. But I'm sure what's specifically called for is what's also known as "red pepper flakes."

Yeah, like the shakers of dried chili bits at pizza places - that's what I think of as crushed red pepper.
