Help Understanding A Brandy I have

I found a bottle of VSOP in my liquor cabinet that I have no idea where it came from.

It is a Pierre Duchene Napoleon French Brandy VSOP.

I only cook with brandy, I don't care to drink it. Is this stuff schlock that is barely good enough to cook with or could I serve it to people such as my FIL who is big-time into wine. For a reference point he is a long-time member of the Orange County Wine Society.
