I've been to both Figaro (thumbs up) and Floyd's (it is what it is), but not for some time. Any thoughts on the QA area establishments that are participating?

Most women don't seem to know how much flour to use so it gets so thick you have to chop it off the plate with a knife and it tastes like wallpaper paste....Just why cream sauce is bitched up so often is an all-time mytery to me, because it's so easy to make and can be used as the basis for such a variety of really delicious food.

Have heard very good things about Racha with their newer chef (last spring, lots of articles/press?) - and enjoyed Nonna Maria's antipasti and dessert. They make fresh pasta to sell at Farmer's Markets too.

Laurie and I ended up at Racha and had a pretty lousy meal, albeit for a good cause. We had the "chicken in the jungle appetizer," which was white meat chicken compressed into a tetrahedron and wrapped in banana leaves, then fried. Not terrible, but rather poor texture. The "chef's special" catfish was a big mistake: it's breaded and pan-fried, then covered in bland panang curry, leaving it mushy, and the fish had a weirdly cartilaginous texture. Luckily there was also pad woon sen with shrimp, which was spicy and good. The decor was very nice; the service was mediocre--they seemed to keep forgetting us.

But like I always say, if my eating a crummy meal prevents some person from getting maimed by a land mine, pass the slop.

I guess if I knew ahead of time (which you certainly didn't) that the meal was going to be crappy, I'd rather just give all the money to the charity and spare myself the experience.... :smile:
