Attended a Friend's and Family event at Silk City last night. Great looking menu, everything under $20. Simlilar menu to North 3rd, everything sounded really good. Had bbq pork empanadas, and crab potstickers to start, along with good mojitos and pomegrante margarita's. Wife had the pepper and thyme crusted tuna with brie risotto and spinach, while I had the steak and eggs. Slices of medium rare hanger steak on top of mashed potatoes in a red wine sauce, topped with a fried egg. Everything was delicious and the place looks great.

So, not a diner then. A few of us had wondered whether they might be leaning in that direction.

Eggy steak'n'mash under $20, that'll soothe the disappointment some.

The right side where the diner was is still set up as a diner, just with a menu more like the "Comtinental". The left part is more loungey with high tables and another bar. I beleive the Steak and Eggs was only $17. There were also burgers, roast beef and chicken sandwiches and a good looking crabcake sandwich. Some of the other apps included sashimi tuna, ribs amd mussels. There were 3 soups, 4 or 5 salads, and a cavatelli lobster special.

Cool. Glad they're following the successful formula at North 3rd, surely one of my fave menus in the city. I've never ever been disappointed with a meal at North 3rd, and the drinks are always excellent as well.

I wish them all the best of luck and fruition in the new location. Sounds like they won't be needing my blessing though. It ought to be a bang up success.

Diner breakfast?

Word is that they'll do breakfast and lunch on weekends soon. Not sure about weekdays.

Like Katie, I'm always happy at N3rd, so I'm fairly pleased with this development, although, Like Capaneus, I was hoping for something a little more diner-ish.

And when I rule the universe, any place even resembling a diner will have to be open all night.

my roommate went last night and said it was very good.  "too clean," i think he said.  i don't think holly will be getting any more grease stains there.

Did they re-hire the mice? I worked hard on my relationships with some of those mice...

Sshhhhhh! The mice are getting paid under the table. They might get in trouble for not paying their city wage taxes.... :raz:

the old Silk City had great fried chicken and other comfort foods. I'm disappointed that they are going the route of many other restaurant in the rest of the city. How many continental rip offs do we need. doesn't this city have enough seared tuna dishes? This new silk city basically reconfirms the views made in the " Fork in the Road" article a few months back. What was wrong with the old place? It had a great vibe to it, very nostalgic setting and the food to match. Why cant we have a classic diner on spring garden? What was wrong with it? Sorry to vent......... !
