Jordan Kahn is coming to California

Great news for us Californians!

I was reading the thread on Varietal Restaurant in the New York section and hgihly acclaimed pastry chef Jordan Kahn has left Varietal and has a project in the works in California. No other details were offered.

I have to think he would be headed to either San Francisco or LA, or maybe perhaps the Napa area.

This should be a great thing for us as Chef Kahn's creations have been recognized as some of the most creative and delicious in all of New York. As a southerner I really hope its somewhere LA or south!

Here is a quickie on his desert "Meditation in Purple"

Wow! "Meditation in Purple" is truly awesome. I'd love to try hibiscus cellophane and frozen Campari foam. I'm not sure about Napa though. Where would he work that could take on that level of sophistication in a dessert? Redd? I can definitely see San Francisco and I would LOVE it if he came to LA.

I agree, I would think either San Fran or LA would be the spot he would be heading to. I added the wine country areas just because I think they qualified as a major restaurant destination.

Great news for Californians??  Not sure I'd go that far....

:hmmm:

I suppose you are right, if he does end up in Norcal, it will be great news for them but not so much for us in Socal.

Not that Napa doesn't have world-class dining, they just serve it up in a more rustic and classically French kind of way. Redd is the closest thing they have to an urban-style restaurant. I'm not familliar with Jordan Kahn's work, but based on that photo you presented, I'm guessing he's a modern-chic kind of pastry chef.

Exactly right.

According to today's New York Times, Jordan will be heading to San Francisco. No other details published.

Thanks for the update!

Although, I have to admit I am a little bummed he will be all the way up in San Francisco.

Logically speaking I think San Francisco is probably the ideal spot for him and Michael Minna is probably a good guess.

I am not sure of any big time new openings in the next few months but a new restaurant might also be an option.
