According to the web site they've been around since 1984 but the move to West Houston and Bedford is recent.

edit: There's a brief blurb on Chowhound but doesn't seem exemplary. I could be mistaken but I don't recall this place being mentioned in any of the NYT barbecue roundups in recent years (including last week's)

Would make sense that they've been around for a while. Why in hell else would they choose a name that links them to the worst bbq chain on the planet?

ah ok.

I knew they were new on that block...I used to spend a good deal of time on Bedford. (the sign in the window also said they just got their beer and wine license)

It's far from authentic barbecue, but it's good fast food. Great sides. MUCH better than "BBQ."

No reference that I could find (on their website or in reviews) that the ribs (or other meats) are smoked. Ususally, if they slow smoke the food, it's prominantly mentioned.
