  1. I always stop mine, take out the dough, remove the paddle and put the dough back in for baking. Much easier than digging out the paddle and leaving a big hole after it is baked.
  2. I am not going to order any more meat/fish/perishable from Imperfect Foods. I had an issue with pork a time or two ago. Today (and it isn't warm--it is in the 30s), the meat and fish had defrosted. That is not surprising since they are no longer putting insulation in the boxes. They put those items in a paper bag with 1 ice pack. That is not enough to keep it frozen. They are taking it all off my bill, but now I've not got the stuff to cook with that I'd planned for the weekend. I need to decide if it is worth it to even continue at all with them.
  3. I remember at some point seeing a post in a forum somewhere about someone who was looking for a lid for her "soup tureen" which she had posted a photo of with soup in it. When many pointed out to her that it was not a tureen, but a chamber pot, she was horrified that she'd been putting it on her table to serve soup.
  4. You got me curious and I climbed over the stacks of books to be put away to get to my copy. 1961. I'd venture a guess that there have been a few changes since then and the new version. LOL.
  5. Yep, I messed up this week, too. I forgot to jump on as soon as my window opened up and the email they send doesn't come until an hour or so after it starts. I missed out on a lot. Oh, well.
  6. I love the children's book! And I want to make that pecan souffle in the flour book!
  7. Completely agree. I finalize my Imperfect order today for delivery Thursday/Friday. We have dreadful weather here in KC area so I am being mindful of that and not ordering anything that will suffer from freezing. I am learning that you have to keep weather in mind when you order. I have been getting Facebook ads for marketwagon.com and think I am going to give them a try in the next week or so. I really like the local provider aspect. I also have a milkman from a local dairy and can get some produce and meats through them. https://shattohomedelivery.com/ It is wonderful to have all these choices during the pandemic and bad weather.
  8. I'll have to get it from my PC to post, but came across a recipe in my old files last night for pork tenderloin roasted in rosemary and salt with fingerling potatoes. T sounded delicious. Will post it later.
  9. I am so sorry to learn this. Many condolences to all her family and friends. She will be missed by all in the community. Passing along sad news is not pleasant or easy and we are grateful to you for letting us know, Smithy.
  10. If you are unable to read at The Economist, here is the article.
  11. You mean I'm not the only one here who doesn't own an Ina cookbook? 😆
  12. Has anyone tried this one? Market Wagon It looks to be more expensive than Imperfect and Misfits, but I like the local aspect. I am even familiar with some of the vendors in my area.
  13. It is knives for me. I can't get a good grip on them anymore and have dropped them so many times. I've gotten good at jumping back and just letting them hit the floor. Hope your burn heals quickly!
  14. I use Copy Me That to capture the recipes and save them as pdfs on my PC. I don't use their storage.
  15. I cancelled my Misfit subscription yesterday. Just too much rotten food upon arrival. Will stick with Imperfect Foods as long as I can push out the orders for as long as I want. Right now I have a lot of produce to use up.
  16. I wanted to report that the avocados I got in my last Imperfect order were fantastic! I always seem to get bad avocados here in the midwest, but these were perfect in every way on the inside. The skin had blemishes, but who cares! Also, I felt I was taking a chance on them because they were so cheap, but I got some of the boneless, skinless chicken breast chunks. At $2.99 for 14 oz., I felt like I couldn't go wrong. They arrived frozen and I put them promptly into the freezer. I used them yesterday in a chicken potpie. My husband had no idea, but said it was some of the best chicken he's had. I was very pleased. In the package, there were 2 pieces that were very close to breast half size and a few smaller pieces. I ordered a second time from Misfits and was just as unhappy as I had been the first time. The radishes were so soft they were unusable. A rotten lemon and eggplant that was nearly gone, too. I am cancelling them and will continue with Imperfect as I need them. I am so overstocked right now that I just skipped this week's shipment.
  17. That mushed together stuff (I think their website says it is a recycled paper product.) is good for insulating bins to make outdoor shelters for feral cats. I have a couple of people who have asked for mine.
  18. I have been getting Bon Appetit because it was ridiculously cheap, but I've become very disinterested in it. I just don't find much of interest in it any more. Maybe I'm too old and not urban enough to be their audience. I have been having a great time going through the thousands of recipes I ripped out and clipped from magazines and newspapers over the past 40 years or so. It certainly makes food and food magazine trends apparent. And also shows how my own cooking and food preferences have changed over the years.
  19. Yes, that was an issue with my first order. I am giving it a second chance and hope I chose things that will not be so vulnerable to the cold. And I hope the shipping is a bit better (not having to sit on the truck so long) now that Christmas is past.
  20. If you've ever had an MRE, you know there isn't much you can to make them better. I reckon powdered catsup and Tabasco sauce are about as good as it gets. 😆
  21. Another few booklets I dug out this morning. I love the one shaped like a can of tomatoes!
  22. @Anna N and @BetD Here are a few pix from the inside of the Mort Walker. As you can see, the back cover is missing a piece. Boo. This booklet was sponsored by Tabasco.
