  1. That's the exact brand I bought. It helps to shop in a Walmart grocery store that doesn't offer too much brand variation. I was lucky the one brand of peanut butter chips they carried was the Reese's brand. I have the JIF peanut powder, too. I'll report back on how the cookies went over in a few weeks.
  2. @Kim Shook Thanks for posting the link to the PB Cookies. I will be making a batch when I take my Christmas vacation. I see it uses bread flour, which is great. I bought some bread flour to use when making the Creamsicle Cookies (I found the original cookie too brittle and @andiesenji suggested adding some bread flour to make them less so...worked like a charm) and wondered what I would do with the rest of the bag of bread flour. Your recipe fits the bill, so to speak.

    Dinner 2017 (Part 6)

I always buy the Hillshire Farms Kielbasa at the grocery store. Here's a link to the Hilshire Farms products page show the different "rope" sausages: CLICK Funny...but in my area the Hillshire Farms Kielbasa is not labeled Polska Kielbasa like you see on the above product page. In the store it's just labeled "Kielbasa", or "Beef Kielbasa" or "Turkey Kielbasa"...all without the word "Polska" on it.
  4. I stumbled across this in my afternoon's perusal of Kindle cookbooks: James Beard's "Beard on Pasta" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  5. If the soup maker has brought their own steel, then the soup make can bring their own knives.

    Roasted Cauliflower

That sounds so good. I eyed a container of shredded parm in my refrigerator last night as I was fixing my dinner. Guess I should follow my impulses more! I had an odd struggle with my oven though...it took forever to heat up (or I was possibly too impatient with it). It took far too long to roast it last night until I finally pulled it out of the oven and said it was done. Yes, it was done. I do that parm trick with my roasted asparagus. Damn, that's good eats!

    Costco

Yes, this. I remember the too-short time when Costco used large plastic bags for your groceries when you checked out. I loved the bags They were far better than the bags you would get from the "regular" grocery stores. They had the bags in my mom's Costco where she lived. Yet they never appeared at my local Costco. Eventually they were discontinued at my mom's Costco. It turns out Costco has regional managers who determine what is sold/used at area Costcos. That's why there are differences in Costcos, from gas prices to the Polish dogs being served (or not being served). Personally, I would complain loud, and often, for them to bring the Polish dogs back. You can't be the only one who misses them. The annoying squeaky wheel gets the grease. edited to clarify.

    Roasted Cauliflower

I had roasted cauliflower with last night's dinner. I'd forgotten how good this was. I am in hopes to make more of this in the cold winter months ahead.
  9. Don't be embarrassed. It could have been worse...you could have bought the hardcover version and then bought it all over again. At least Amazon alerts you to duplicate Kindle purchases. Spin it as a positive...
  10. This morning's finds: These both may have been posted before (some time back): "Moosewood Restaurant Simple Suppers: Fresh Ideas for the Weeknight Table" Kindle Edition $1.99US Note that the recipes included in this book can all be seen listed at the front of the book (use "Look Inside" to see the list) James Beard's "Hors d'Oeuvre and Canapés" Kindle Edition $1.99US Edited to add the usual disclaimer I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  11. I think it was mentioned a couple pages back. Thanks for pointing it out. Something from this afternoon: Robb Walsh's "The Chili Cookbook: A History of the One-Pot Classic, with Cook-off Worthy Recipes from Three-Bean to Four-Alarm and Con Carne to Vegetarian" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  12. I was able to start my Christmas baking when I was visiting my Mom for Thanksgiving. I made a batch of @Kim Shook's Dream Cookies with M&M mini-candies in them. They looked festive and tasted great. When I go back down for Christmas, I'll be making a batch of Butterballs and @andiesenji's Creamsicle Cookies. The orange zest in the cookies remind my mom of Christmases when she was a child where an orange in the stocking on Christmas morning was a real treat. Creamsicle cookies are her new holiday favorite. My niece and I made sugar cookie cut-outs and spent hours icing/frosting them...our yearly tradition. My niece took a bedraggled-looking Christmas Tree-shaped cookie and free-handed the face of the Grinch on it. She's becoming a real cookie artist! We also made some "fake fudge" (a Sandra-Lee-ish recipe), Oreo Peppermint White Chocolate bark, original recipe Chex Mix and a batch of the Ranch-Dill Oyster Crackers, which go great in Turkey Noodle soup.
  13. Found this afternoon: This is supposed to be a hybrid cookbook/graphic novel... "The Adventures of Fat Rice: Recipes from the Chicago Restaurant Inspired by Macau" Kindle Edition $2.99US Ryan Farr's "Sausage Making: The Definitive Guide with Recipes" Kindle Edition $2.99US Caterer Peter Callahan's "Party Food: Mini Hors d'oeuvres, Family-Style Settings, Plated Dishes, Buffet Spreads, Bar Carts" Kindle Edition $1.99US Raghavan Iyer's "Smashed, Mashed, Boiled, and Baked--and Fried, Too!: A Celebration of Potatoes in 75 Irresistible Recipes" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  14. I thought I would post this article here about a baker who gets a little artistic with her pie crusts. "Seattle baker's gorgeous pies will leave your jaw on the floor and your mouth watering" If you click on the Instagram pictures in the article, it takes you to her account where she gives a little info about the pie that's pictured. She's very "punny" which wears thin, but I think the crusts are inspirational. I especially liked the pear pie/tart. edited to add: Moderators, feel free to move this post if need be.
  15. From this morning's Bookbub email: (This cookbook may have been posted before in the past) Pastry chef David Lebovitz's "Ready for Dessert: My Best Recipes" Kindle Edition $1.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  16. The article: "Australian man uses snack bags as Faraday cage to block tracking by employer" That was quite ingenious of him. It's too bad he got caught (says the Homer Simpson inside of me ).

  17. I saw this sale this morning on the US Amazon web site: Anova Culinary Sous Vide Precision Cooker Bluetooth, Immersion Circulator, 800 Watts, Black $99.00US ($50 off) I am a US Prime member though I think that won't impact US users of the web site or the price they see. I just don't know how long the sale is going on.
  18. So my oldest idiot brother has decided AFTER Black Friday, that he would like the Instant Pot Duo Plus 9-in-1 for Christmas. >sigh< Now the waiting game...I hope that it will go on sale again on Amazon before then.
  19. I think the original mention was on the Dinner thread. I had Googled it because the poster used them in a dish and sounded like "Hey, no worries..." and I kept seeing online articles about the cyanide (with peach pits, as well). Except we won't know. Perhaps the charcoal soup the patient consumed took care of the issue so in this case, no news is good news.
  20. My mom used to have a Black & Decker food processor from back in the early days of food processors. A too-cold block of cheddar cheese being shoved down the feed chute promptly broke the center spindle that rotated the grating blade. Bye-Bye Black & Decker.
  21. Just saw this one... From the famous San Francisco restaurant: "The Slanted Door: Modern Vietnamese Food" Kindle Edition $2.99US I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.
  22. "Hog: Proper pork recipes from the snout to the squeak" Kindle Edition $3.99US Written by the same author of this book: "PRIME: The Beef Cookbook" Kindle Edition $.99US There seems to be a theme going on here (): "Butchering Poultry, Rabbit, Lamb, Goat, and Pork: The Comprehensive Photographic Guide to Humane Slaughtering and Butchering" Kindle Edition $2.51US The author is a James Beard and IACP Award-winner. Edited to add: I am a US Prime member and the price you see may vary.

    Aldi

Except if I'm a "budget-conscious shopper", I've spent all of my money at the Super Walmart getting groceries. Who has money left over for Aldi's? I don't get it.
  24. "Lawsuits claim top San Diego restaurants defrauding consumers with minimum wage surcharge" The surcharge was mentioned in another eGullet discussion (which I can't find). So instead of raising prices to cover the minimum wage increase, the restaurants just tack on a surcharge to the customer's bill. In many cases the surcharge was unannounced/not advertised. "Here's your bill...Surprise!" How any business person/owner would think this was legal is beyond me.
  25. "Hummus recalled over possible bacterial contamination" If you can't access the article due to a paywall, I've quoted the pertinent parts.
