Truth be told: Where've you eaten lately? (Part 1)
Ling replied to a topic in Western Canada: Dining
Never speak of this place again...it is my favourite secret!!!! ← Okay then Brian. Two clicks left on the decoder ring and a right-eyed wink should suffice the next time I want to refer to, well, you know. I just wish they were open on weekends. ← Mooshmouse, your son is too cute! Where is...uhm...this secret place that sells the Reuben? -
My favorite names from this thread are: -sugarsugar -Dulcita (or the other suggestion of Dulce--I was going to suggest that too, actually) -katiecakes and katie bakes (both cute!) -the cake box -katie takes the cake You could also try: -butter -sugar and spice -buttercream bakery damn now I want cake

Well, if I was really starving, I wouldn't have called for take-out in the first place. I would have made something that takes about 1 minute to cook, like scrambled eggs. And eat it out of the pan. Why waste 10 seconds looking for a plate? I would have asked them after placing my order approximately when I could expect my delivery. If it was too long for my liking (45 minutes +), I would have apologized and cancelled the order right there.

rice cooked in a clay pot topped with Chinese sausage, salted and dried duck meat, and this type of dried, salted Chinese pork the rice was topped with soy sauce and it was so fragrant with all the flavorful pork fat

I had salmon baked with a ton of sundried tomatoes, olive oil, onions, and garlic on top. Mussels steamed in white wine. An apple turnover. And...1/2 a pan of tater tots.

I can't find it on the NM site, but I read on the Miles of Chocolate site that shipping alone is $40 outside of Texas. *sigh* This sugar slut is now craving chocolate.
-
Shhhhh ling! I think she's having whiskey w/ "T" ← are you starting some egullet gossip? I probably would have cancelled too (after 45 minutes). Then again, I'm really impatient when I'm hungry. Peppyre, hope you had some Rainforest Crisps left to tide you over!
-
You got me all excited, you tease. Now I must go over to the NM site to check how much this delicious confection costs, shipped.

I think the wait is still a bit ridiculous, even though it's Saturday. How was the food?

Deborah, that turkey cake is the most adorable thing I'd ever seen! Your daughter's kindergarten class must have loved it!

went to some neighbourhood sushi joint called 'Downtown Sushi' or something like that on Davie Street about a week ago then a few days ago I went to Samurai Restaurant on Davie. big portions. the house roll costs under 10 bucks and I bet it could feed 2 people (lots of filling--chunks of salmon, tamago, tuna, crab, avocado and not a lot of rice--just the way I like it). i also had an order of tuna sashimi and a half order of salmon. i can eat sashimi like a bottomless pit and now i jsut got back from section 3 in yaletown. and guess what i drank the yellowtail shiraz because i let my friend choose the wine (i chose the 1st bottle and it was mission hill merlot and i had a pinot grigio from italy too) anway it was a lot of wine and i am going to bed now. i had to make this post because i remember someone made fun of yellowtail shiraz on this site haha and i tried to get my friend to pick something else but she insisted. edit: oh yeah forgot to say what i ate at section 3 i ate the peppered tuna with some sort of mango sauce and the seasoned dry ribs and also we got free some free 5 layer chocolate cake! -
There's a long list of restaurants that I want to try in Vancouver, and I'm not exactly rich. If I had a mediocre experience at a restaurant (spotty service, OK food) I might try the place again if the reviews are good. If I absolutely hated the food they served, or the servers were rude, then I wouldn't go again. The only exception is that if a friend chooses it for a birthday dinner or something--then I would definitely go. I'd probably just throw back a couple of drinks and order an appetizer though.

Ling, how was it? I need to try that against the BB I made last week! ← It was delicious and so simple! However, this is my first time making the dish so I have nothing to compare it to. The onions kind of melt into the sauce after all that cooking, and the beef is so tender! Definitely take Bourdain's advice and make it one night, eat it the next. The sauce really mellows out. I ate the stew for lunch and dinner yesterday, as well as lunch and dinner today. That's how good it is. It's all gone now and I plan on making another pot this week!

Those are my favourite tortilla chips too.

Right now, my favourite snack is the rosemary, raisin and pecan Raincoast Crisps from Lesley Stowe's. They recommend serving them with a dip or some cheese, but I like them just the way they are. I bought them from Urban Fare but I'm sure you can find them at Lesley Stowe's too.

last night was Bourdain's beef bourguignon

ms. foodie, I really enjoyed your blog, and it's so sweet how you and your husband obviously are very much in love. I like your evening ritual of choosing the matchsticks I was so sad when I got to the last picture of your house and you had to say goodbye! I'll be re-reading this blog soon. -
I ate a whole pomello. I have way too much fruit at home this week. And then an hour later I had a big piece of leftover roast lamb. Eaten with the fridge door still open, and with my fingers. Yes, I was raised in a barn.

I'm a student too, and I'm just getting into cheese-tasting. But I find cheese pretty affordable; I usually just look for the smaller pieces of the cheeses that I haven't tried before. No point buying a big piece if I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it. Some recent ones I have tried are: -English Huntsman Double Gloucester and Stilton -Morbier (if I remember correctly--is this the cheese that has a layer of ash that separates the morning and evening milk?) -Benedictin Bleu (this is an award-winning blue cheese from Quebec, I think) My favorites are stilton, aged cheddar (5 years--you can find this at Costco), goat cheese, gouda, and brie. I find camembert a little strong, so I cut the rind off. I don't know if this is sacrilegous.

I correctly answered a trivia question when I was watching a cooking demo at a local fair. (I think the question was something like: "Vancouver produces a lot of which fruit?" or something...anyway, the answer was cranberries.) I got to eat the dish the chef just prepared--crab cakes! Yum. The only weird part was they had set up a little table and chair right next to the stage, and I had to eat with everyone in the audience staring at me.

I've always used the Oreo crumbs that come in a box whenever I make chocolate crusts, and they never turn out soggy.

Jones Soda uses Splenda in their diet drinks. My favorite diet soda is definitely their Black Cherry flavor. Other ones I like: -diet Dr. Pepper -diet Crush -Fresca

I had three kiwis and a bunch of grapes for breakfast. I was still full this morning from all the carrot cake I ate the night before!
