The closest KFC is 9 miles away. I could order it via UberEats or DoorDash but I don’t want it that badly (I tip per mile). My mom might be up for making me pastina. It would probably make her feel better to do something useful for me, instead of my hiding. Thanks for the idea.

I can usually get it easily @Alex and I’d be happy to mail some to you. Barilla is the brand accessible to me.

To clarify, when I said I “lost my girl”, I meant Maisey. I don’t have any children and now am living completely alone for the first time. I feel you all of snack/ convenience foods. I kind of graze a bit whenever I get a rare hunger pain. I lost a lot of weight when my husband left me—- nothing appealed to me. Now I just don’t have the energy to make an effort and nothing is appealing. The only thing remotely tempting to me is pastina with butter and S&P. Maybe I’ll order a “fasta pasta” agin because I’d rather use “chef Mike” than stand and watch pasta water boil.

I’m fortunate since my girl died I have had my parents and neighbors offering food for me. My friends know me better, I’m just not interested at all in eating while grieving. I don’t know how to politely and continuously say no, other than being like “drive to the nearest KFC and get me a large mashed potatoes with gravy” which is a big ask. What foods comfort you during a loss?

Thanks for recommending The Grey. I was able to snag a reservation for 9:30 on a Friday. My friend isn’t thrilled with having dinner so late but I am used to eating late. The menu looks awesome.

Any recommendations? I have never been and it looks like there’s a solid mix of awesome dive bars and seafood restaurants. Being from the frozen north I was hoping for warmer temperatures but even temps in the 50s are welcome. I’m thinking crab, pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, etc. Thanks in advance!

Is the ocean warm and safe to swim in (it looks a bit rocky). I do love conch and am jealous! Enjoy!

Idk the eggs available to me are shockingly reasonably priced.

I’m not wasting over a Half hour to boil an egg at their current prices. It seems pointless.

I make a similar version after a night out. English muffins drizzled with olive oil, smeared with Don Pepino’s pizza sauce, a sprinkle of sea salt and a ton of shredded mozzarella. Done in the toaster oven.

I’m with you there! My cousin plays college football at a D1 level and has a 12pm game the Saturday after Thanksgiving. So we gathered tonight. I brought bruschetta and marinated mozzarella, salami and prosciutto. My my brought shrimp cocktail and a salad. My aunt made meatballs and sausage and pasta and broiled salmon (my dad is in a heart healthy diet along with some other relatives). My (much younger) cousins weren’t able to come— one was obviously playing football tonight, the other works for the MLB network (I posed with his Emmy award!) and the other is on vacation from the LSATS. Damn over achievers! I’m thankful for the leftovers and my parents and I will enjoy the “free” ShopRite ham next weekend. I’ve never really loved Thanksgiving, as my father is allergic to all poultry and I used to eat lobster with him as a kid on Thanksgiving.

I definitely still use the oven and find it useful. I wouldn’t rely on its supposed air frying capability though. I paused the meal plan because you have to order 4 per order and I grew tired of the selections. I don’t regret the purchase— the meals I received in order to pay $199 for the oven weren’t bad. I just wish there was a larger variety, and that breakfast items weren’t add ons/ only sold in servings for two.

It’s too hot, almost hot enough to not eat! I had half a Jersey Mike’s sub. They’re pretty good for a chain! Tomorrow I’m thinking of getting a rotisserie chicken, arugula, some local tomatoes and fresh mozzarella and drizzling it in olive oil with fresh ground pepper and sea salt.
