  1. Diana, you can sift the dark rye and get white rye / fine rye
  2. I see if I can find Mrs S later on today and see what she can recommend in Åbo/Turku and Helsingfors/Helsinki, she goes there a lot these day since she has family there. I love Finnish food, it hearty and yummy. They do have great pastry too like Korvapuusti and grisar ( only know the Swedish word for this), it is square doughnut filled with jam.
  3. EnriqueB, Thanks then I dont feel the odd one out when I have more rice and stuff on my paella. I have a recipe I got from one of my dad's co-workers. A Spanish Gentleman with a love of cooking and a temperament to match.
  4. Baked Chili dogs ala Karen with Swedish Makaronipudding with corn, This is my husband plate and he refused veggies today. Oddly enough dad little mimic did like mum today and ate salad . It should be mac and cheese with the dogs, but I dont like it nor does my husband, it just fatty and bland according to us both and I have tried 58 recipes and now I have given up.
  5. You have to find mesimarja, either as jam or a liqueur, it arctic raspberries and so lovely! Other berries that makes lovely liqueur and jam are Lakka ( cloudberry),Puolukka ( Lingonberry) and Mustikka ( billberry). I also have fond spot for Finnish candy terva leijona, try it and see if you like it. I love karjalanpiirakka which is a pirogi with potatoes and there blood sausage. too. Oh and where to find booze go to Alko. I will ponder some more and ask my parents , I havent been over to Finland for a while, I live closer to Denmark and my parent's to Finland, You are welcomed for fika and dinner.
  6. haresfur: My aussie friend fire plan is like yours, except they now have a fire and water proof safe room in the house they built. The three homes they have had before 2 burned and 1 swept away in the great wall of water and all the day after the house had been sold. My toilette have two buttons, one for pee and one for poop, different amount of water and the new built houses have system that make sure minimum water and energy waste, you cant even wash you clothes when you want too, which is annoying when you have kid. It only starts at night...
  7. I'm lucky ( or not) , I'm stuck on plateau and it is wet here. We just had flooding in our basement. Every summer we do have a water restrictions but they go for every one, including farmers and big companies. We all get a certain amount we can use in case of drought, well it is wet here for the moment. The river has been over it banks ever spring for the last 5 years. Also this area prides it self of being the most environmentally friendly town in Europe, so we have hard restriction then the rest, all is geared toward saving Nature. I use non salted cooking water for flowers. And when it comes to roses, I dont have any now but we used to pee on them, stunning roses, weird morning habits.
  8. Kim Shook: Lidl's had Greek Cheese, matured 24 months and it is a mix of cow, sheep and goat milk. I have grated the rest of it for future use this summer.
  9. I love the British shows, but they do have their weird people too. Oh you have to see Posh Nosh, it is parody of cooking shows and it makes me laugh! Am I the only one who doesnt like Martha Stewart ? Every time she say cheap or affordable is expensive.
  10. emmalish; I got to know if I want a cookie more dry and cracker like, I can dry them out in the oven on low heat and door slightly open for 2 hours
  11. Macaroni me kima, was on the menu today and we are not sure if we like it or not. We had to omit the wine because if we had bought one bottle cheap wine the price for this dinner would have doubled and I cant afford that. How ever my daughter loved it.
  12. Buy new! I know people who are used to brightly coloured sweets and other food chems cant taste over use of baking powder, but there are still some who can. I can and it one of the more horrid taste you can get in cookies and cakes.
  13. Oh I have one similar to the bonvita from my grandmother it says Melitta on it. It was used to clear the boiling coffee after it had been boiled.
  14. I love Master chef UK but here in Sweden they yet again do the american version for the Swedish market and it just clash with the Swedish mindset. I hate it, the judges are rude, annoying and un Swedishly in your face.
  15. Smithy, I am guessing the quick changes of temperature and moisture could be the problem. All I know it got weird.
  16. Kim Shook: would have been better but I had to open the oven before done and take them down a notch because they where going in to heating element on top and well a fire isnt a good thing.
  17. I do have a winner in bad show hosts. Ernst, does multi shows, like fake building a house and then cooking, well once he made Schnapps out of a poisonous plant and said it was a whole different plant, well the plants do not even look the same. The poisonous one has a strong smell and pointy leafs and the safe one has round dusky green leafs and doesn't smell.
  18. A proper roast dinner. Pork loin roast with tatties, gravy, yorkies, vegs and fresh salad. Dessert was a custard tart with strawberries.
  19. Custard tart with whipped cream and strawberries... YUM. Yes I know it isnt picture perfect BUT I rather go for the inside then the outside when it comes to dessert and I had sourced these lovely corona strawberries, know for their sweetness, rich flavour and chubby berries. Look at this , this was one of the bigger ones and the only split one of the punnet.
  20. In Sweden we have Mat -Tina, who steal from every chef she can find, even their monologues translated to Swedish. And she repeats the word smaka smaka smaka ( taste, taste, taste) until you just want to add her to one of her dishes. Her first cookbook has smaka smaka smaka every second page, the food pictures are out of focus or taken in such weird way the food looks horrible.
  21. gfron: Next time try adding bread spice or just ground caraway or ground dill seeds. I have bread spice in mine for Christmas, it work so well with the Christmas food. My friend who is over used to be baker and he said if you want fluffier add 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar or baking ammonia ( this stinks but only when baking).
  22. This is a common recipe for sandwich bread in Old fashion Swedish sandwich shops. But then they make the big one and divided it in half or quarters and then half again and you can buy either top or bottom. A place near buy does a Chef sandwich which is either a whole big cake bottom or top with all the sandwich stuff they have.
  23. Chicken Sukka today, it turned out really yummy , so yummy I forgot to take pictures.
  24. That happens, I am guessing the plain flour I am using right now, absorb alot of water, i noticed when i baked cookies today. I hope it works. Yesterday i tried a white bread recipe my Scottish mother in law bake , if i had added all of the flour it had been a brick.
  25. Have your ever had sweet saffron ice cream or gingerbread ice cream? That used to be my two favorite ones when I could eat normal ice cream. Oh that right Glögg used be good too, it is a mulled wine ice cream.
