  1. That's Kathleen Daelmans (sp?). I think it was called Cooking Thin, or something like that.
  2. It's time to start our biweekly treks from the 'burbs to the Dupont Freshfarm Market. There may be better markets in the area, but this one is in our old neighborhood and I like buying from the same folks from year to year. There's a farmer's market in Rockville that we could go to, but it's not organic. Anyway, would anyone be up for a little e-Gullet meeting with us one fine Sunday morning? Coffee and a scone from Firehook, check out the early spring produce, peruse a few cookbooks at Kramerbooks...
  3. Unagi. Yum , yum, yum and yum. One of my favorite things. I'd love to try it fresh.
  4. It was an effort, but I managed to use a fork. My big mistake was getting a soda; I should have ordered a cold beer. The crabcakes held together remarkably well for something with so little filler. Delicious. Would make a damned fine sandwich.
  5. The Illuminated Site of the Week is a great thing. Read all about the Breatharians (scroll down to March 28th). Link
  6. Thanks for the pics, Vengroff. And I'm in complete agreement about the club-level hot dogs. Dry bun and overcooked dog = unsatisfying ballpark experience. My brother told me this morning that club-level food is for tourists. We should have taken his advice and frequented the hotdog grill behind home plate.
  7. Thanks for the link. Just looked at my original post and perhaps her problem is with milk (and sadly, ice cream) and not yogurt and cheese. That goes back to your comment about fermented foods a while back.

    Chicken Thighs

So glad I read this before going to the market today. Now I know what to shop for. Thanks Simon.
  9. As a kid I never had any allergies or asthma. Now I'm allergic to everything they can test you for - trees, grasses, pets, dust mites, etc. When I saw an allergist for testing, they had to give me an adrenaline shot in the office because I reacted so severely to the tests. Luckily food allergies haven't surfaced. My brother's fiance is Greek and lactose intolerant, but mostly to cow's milk. She can eat sheep's milk yogurt and cheese just fine. Is there something different about sheep and goat milk other than it comes from a different animal?
  10. Advil and lots of coffee. Plus, it's 80 degrees. I would drag myself off my deathbed to see a game on a day like this.
  11. Yes? Ok then. Just checking. I will need to start buying Advil by the gross.
  12. Good grief, haven't we been over all of this on various "supertaster" threads? Does every serious thread on this site dissolve into a puddle of subjective vs. objective taste and sematics?

If it will make you feel better, I will freely admit to enjoying Boca burgers, Boca "chicken nuggets," and Boca "crumbles." I have used the "crumbles" in chili, spaghetti sauce, etc. It's not meat, but it's not bad. I also like Miracle Whip.
  14. I hear they're pretty good at the Cheesecake Factory - and the portion is huge!
  15. In depth. Im glad I found someone besides me that likes them...Do a search... The cayenne is fab- I love chocolate and chilis. We used to order a chocolate and jalapeno sauce from my fave hot sauce source.
  16. The Godiva Belgian Dark chocolate ice cream is fantastic - far and away my favorite choc ice cream! Chocolate covered candied ginger.
  17. Tangerine juice is my favorite - got a little extra zing.
  18. With mint, or any kind of nut. I'm not wild about chocolate with fruit, but have been known to enjoy choc cake with fresh raspberries occasionally. Chocolate and orange is just horrid.
  19. That's exactly what I thought too. Walnuts and raisins, maybe a roll instead of a loaf?
  20. Not sure whether the Food Lion near us carries Cheerwine sherbert, but it's the only place around here where I can reliably get Duke's mayonnaise and White Lily flour. Previously I had been loading up on Duke's whenever we were visiting my sister in Charlotte. Duke's isn't as good as homemade, but it's way better than Hellman's or Kraft.
  21. Hey, I like emo!
  22. Spicy ground beef chili, definitely no beans or veggie chunks. Also cheddar cheese, minced onion and diced hot pepper rings.
  23. Egg salad would be my guess.
  24. Most used gadgets and tools are the stand mixer, tongs, microplane, and the bagel biter or whatever the heck it's called. It's sort of a bagel guillotine. Gadgets that I would think we would use more but don't are the food processor, toaster oven, microwave, and immersion blender. Almost never used are the mandoline (too hard to clean), the crock pot, and the blender, and 95% of whatever is in the tool drawer in the kitchen.
  25. LS has a damn good clam roll, decent oysters, good wine selections, and a very good children's menu. They aren't at their best when they try to get fancy, but you can't usually go wrong with their fried seafood.
