  1. There's one in Florida at the Tampa airport called CK's. I've eaten in that a few times. Shitty food. My grandparents made me do it; I was too young to know better.
  2. Oh my. That ACTUALLY made my stomach roll over.
  3. CWS, you go post on (---->) that side of the forum. Tommy, you go post on (<-----) that side of the forum. Once you two boys feel that you can get along, you may mingle together with the rest of us. And when this occurs, I will have small, delicious cookies for you to partake in. Deep breathes guys, deep breathes. eGullet, while all about fostering intelligent conversation and/or debate, is meant to be a pleasure to participate in. With nearly 10,000 members you obviously aren't gonna get along with everyone (except for me, because I'm such a lovable little teddy bear ). It isn't like you're being forced to sit down and share a beer with the person who gets under your skin. It's just the Internet. Let it slide, and be grateful you don't live next-door to each other.
  4. I just ate some organic peanut butter out of the jar, then I had 3 Strub's pickles. All washed down by the remnants of a bottle of Moscato D'Asti sitting in the fridge from earlier in the evening. Did I come close? ... I also must admit, I don't feel too hot right now.

    Dinner! 2003

    Beautiful. Which did you prefer?
  6. Ah-ha! "Mystery" solved. Thanks Blondie. I appreciate the sacrifices you've made for us here today. You're a brave soul. :)
  7. Thanks JFlin, I appreciate it. That article on Lucas cooking his mother's birthday dinner was very nicely written. That Lucas is quite an inspiration. Cool kid. :)
  8. You're talking about the place on Second Ave. just off St. Marks place? Their fries are pretty good, yes, but they're only fried once and therefore don't have that great balance that real Belgian fries get from being cooked in two different temperatures of oil. I agree that both Balthazar and Pastis have very good fries. Indeed sir, I am. 123 2nd Ave. A review I just searched out says this: "The food, authentically Belgian, Pommes Frites' pommes frites (the only thing the shop sells) are hand-cut and twice-fried. Dipping sauces (of which six are free, and 20 cost 50 cents) include roasted garlic mayonnaise, satay peanut sauce and the complimentary house "especial"--mayonnaise, ketchup and raw onions" Is that false advertising, or is the once-fried something you just assumed due to their lack of twice-fried characteristics? I'm interested, because when I come to NYC in the summer, good fries are something I'm gonna want to be very aware of. :)
  9. Was that the first time you've had "Hawaiian" pizza, bro?
  10. Haha, he did Oprah? I don't even take him seriously anymore. He's a celebrity, not a chef. At least, not to me.
  11. I've heard Pommes Frites are the best Belgian fries in NYC, but this is just hearsay. Have you tried 'em, FG? I've also read many times that Les Halles and Pastis have incredible fries.
  12. Apparently the best preparation is to smoke it. Maybe Klink could smoke a batch of crack for us? ... moving on. My favourite pizza is: good EVOO, sea salt, cracked pepper, proscuitto, spinach, figs.

    Raw Sauce

Remoulade. ... and vinaigrettes. Chimichurri is great too.
  14. Heheh, very nice post macrosan. An enjoyable read through and through. It seems like you're really enjoying your time in NYC. Do you go often? Have any other notable destinations planned for this trip (food-wise)? WD-50 perhaps?

    Pho

Yea, I was lookin' for Toronto. Sorry I didn't mention that. :/ Thanks nonetheless though, guys.
  16. Has anyone tried la Pizzaillole?
  17. From an interview with FoodTV Canada: And what about Steve Rooney? Your "buddy" on Mario Eats Italy? Mario: Steve Rooney. He's Canadian. I met him through Mean Streets Production, which does the Good Eats show. He was the real cook behind the making of the show. And Mean Streets did the first two seasons of Mario Eats, and they said "Why don't we try giving you a cohort or buddy?" and he was the one they brought in and it worked out really well. He's funny. Anyhow, I really had fun with him. His wife had a baby and now he's moved back to Canada.
  18. I agree. Mario. Sara Moulton as well. It may not be the prettiest, most complex food on the planet, but she explains things well, in my opinion.
  19. Err, no, no it didn't have to be done!
  20. Yuck for me too. I can't stop thinking about toothpaste when I imagine this vile dispensing device, and Colgate on bread doesn't do it for me.
  21. Wow. What an incredible piece of writing that was. Magnified by my extreme admiration for Chef Achatz, this is likely one of the most compelling articles I've read in years. Thanks, Ryne. I think my opinion of Mr. Trotter has changed.
  22. Don't forget those crumbly biscuits that come with the special! Mmm.

  24. Must be the bedroom, Lesley. Though his knife skills may be wonderful in the kitchen, maybe he can't "cut" it in the bedroom. At least, that's what I'm going to tell myself.
