Incredibly sad to hear this moments ago.

Really, really unfair! Not on sale in .ca.

Cod in ginger-garlic broth and orange and miso glazed sweet potato. Well it would’ve been orange if I only had some but cuaçao worked rather well.

Probably and regrettably the final iteration of the leftovers from here. Roast beef, a yorkie and some gravy. Sure did hit the spot.

I guess perhaps it’s the only bright side to no longer owning a car.

Overachiever.

You CAN be too thin, perhaps you CAN even be too rich but you could never have too many books.

If you find yourself disturbed that someone is eating chawanmushi (with shrimp, mushrooms and scallions) from a martini glass with the help of a Bob the Minion spoon before 6 AM perhaps you should consider an attitude adjustment. Oh, and by the way, I rinsed and repeated in the style of @liuzhou — not the dish, just the repeat.

This is indeed proving to be a hidden gem. It would never have appealed to me had I come across it randomly elsewhere. Makes me want to rush into my kitchen and find space for a ménage á trois of my current favourite cusines: Japanese, Danish and French. I have bookmarked a number of recipes Including Rice Pudding with Drunken Raisins (involves Calvados) and her version of Daube de Boeuf. There is even some astute political observation here and there that is enlightening but not overly intrusive. Yes it is indeed an almost perfect combination of narrative and recipes.

It is an acquired taste. Being married for almost 50 years to a Dane it was necessary to acquire that taste in order to survive! Now it is a comfort food believe it or not.

Two open-faced sandwiches: pickled herring and grilled chicken thigh. To be washed down with two glasses of Taffel Akvavit. Considering how my week has gone so far it is probably better for my health that I forgot to refill my freezer bottle of the good stuff and then I shall have to limit myself to only two glasses.

You know that resistance is futile. You can resist for a while but you’ll break.

I am back because I need some distraction at the moment. Lunch in Paris might provide exactly that. (Cookwise I am in my Japanese/Asian phase. Romancewise, however, I am hovering over Siberia.)

I am usually of the very strong opinion that eggplant should go directly from wherever it came from into the compost bin. But that preparation might persuade me otherwise. (Strong emphasis on the word might)

Had to be fast and simple tonight. More cabbage salad but this time dressed with gomasio and very simple pan-grilled boneless, skinless chicken thighs.

And clutch your pearls?

There is no denying she is extremely talented.

@blue_dolphin I have perhaps said this before. My memory is not what it once was. But I need to learn to read a cookbook the way you do. Somehow I manage to miss some very interesting concepts. Or perhaps I have the attention span of a gnat which I suspect is the truth. Just a long way of saying how much I appreciate some of the dishes that you make and post from some of the books we both enjoy.

That is my kind of Dutch baby although I might skip the yoghurt and honey.

I think it is amusing how much black cocoa powder influences some people’s perception of the “chocolateness”. These were made with high class chocolate and black cocoa powder.

That Kerry and I ended up having lunch out today is somewhat of a minor miracle. However, the cause is not particularly food related so I’ll spare you the boring details and just share photographs of our lunch. We returned to Spoon and Fork which offers fusion Japanese/Thai. Tea for Kerry and warm sake for me. Calamari and gyoza. Wonton soup for me. Hot and sour soup for Kerry. Chinese beef and broccoli. Chicken curry. Chicken satay and seaweed salad. We also ordered kimchi fried rice with chicken but for some reason it took almost 30 minutes or so I believe for it to finally arrive at the table. At this point we had lost interest both in the rice and in photography so I apologize.
