    Dinner 2023

I just fell off my chair. I am teasing. But you did catch me off guard. OK. Carry-on.
  2. I find myself torn between the need to eat when for whatever reason you cannot cook, and the experience of a restaurant meal, which is so much more than the food. Somehow the fridge method seems to slip between these two. It doesn't meet my need for inexpensive refueling, nor my desire for a pleasant dining experience in the ambiance of a good restaurant.
  3. The $75 dish was said to serve four and the soups two to three. You have to futz around a bit on the site to find this.
  4. Just think how many foods rely on eggs! Pretty soon a bottle of Hellmann's might be worth at least one mink coat.
  5. I'm hoping somebody much smarter than me will help you out but in the meantime, here is David Lebovitz take on gelatin. Click

    Reheated, leftover beef kalbi.
  7. It's a very interesting, widespread and ancient lifestyle. Transhumance as discussed is vertical, but there is also horizontal among those who herd reindeer, etc. I became quite interested recently when I listened to this on the radio.

    Breakfast 2023

I am not sure to whom I owe the inspiration for poached eggs on hash brown patties. It might have been @Kim Shookor perhaps @blue_dolphin.

There is a misunderstanding here. Over in the Ladies Who Lunch topic I showed this chicken as it arrived from the restaurant. Tonight I reheated it for 10 minutes in the air fryer.

I am very jealous. We don't seem to have many options in ready to eat meals although perhaps if I lived in Toronto there might be a better variety.

Wow, that would be handy to have in the fridge.

    Breakfast 2023

I managed to mess up my eggs and my toast this morning! But when all was said and done they still tasted just fine.

    Dinner 2023

Leftover kimchi soup (kimchi jigae) with a few frozen shrimp thrown in. Spicy but oh so good.
  15. Yes. I discussed that possibility with @Kerry Beal. But my sense is that someone who orders a fillet of fish with extra cheese might be a bit hard to convert. But I'll cling to that as a slim possibility. The whole experience would be easier to swallow if one knew such a miracle had occurred.
  16. Anybody seen the price of lettuce?

    Thanks very much.
  18. Always a permanent inclusion in my hospital backpack.
  19. So sorry your vacation went south. But it does sound as if you were fortunate enough to bump into some of the nicest people that we all know are in greater supply than the other kind.

Can you explain the need for a shell? Thanks very much.
  21. Yes, we had already paid. I had no direct interaction in this affair. I heard my granddaughter on her phone, reassure someone that these things happen. She told me that her money would be refunded without a problem. I had transferred money to her via Interact for my share and told her to just let it go through and that we would sort out any issues later. I know there is nothing else that can be done but a refund is of no interest to two hungry people at almost 10 o'clock at night. We remind ourselves that in the grand scheme of things this is just a blip. We both determined that it would not ruin the rest of the night.
  22. Today @Kerry Bealand I had Korean food. There is a sad story behind our choice. On Friday my granddaughter and I decided to order in. It was my turn to choose so I suggested Korean food from the Owl of Minerva. It was later than usual when we finally put our order in. I wanted the beef kalbi and youngster wanted the shrimp tempura. 45 minutes later, the driver from one of the delivery services dropped off "our" order. The shopping bag sported the McDonald's logo and contained a Filet-O-Fish (with extra cheese), an order of fries and a large Coke. I'll leave you to imagine our disappointment. It was too late to get anything sorted out as The Owl of Minerva had closed! I dumped the Coke down the sink, my granddaughter ate the fries and I choked down the fish. So when it came time for lunch today, I tried once more for some beef kalbi. (Granddaughter was at the pool, renewing her first aid certificate.) Kimchi soup for Kerry. This had some serious spiciness. Beef kalbi for me. Also, on my plate is half of an appetizer serving of Korean fried chicken. The rest of the chicken and more of the beef kalbi are resting comfortably in my refrigerator!
