Don’t they cancel each other out?
-
Absolutely.

Check out the ones no longer in use in my upright freezer before you do anything else!

There is only me too so it’s a slow process no matter what. But it goes to hell in a handbasket pretty fast.😂

Tonjiru. Pork miso soup. So good! Had to make do without some of the traditional Japanese vegetables and skipped the konnyaku. I have it but have never used it before and today wasn’t the day to start. That’s my excuse anyway.

If you had told me a month ago that I would’ve had the slightest interest in the cooking of the Ozarks I would’ve sent you to get your head examined. Now I look forward to every installment. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It is completely fascinating to me. It’s been many years since I’ve done any library research but I was at one time a research assistant for an author and I do remember how much I enjoyed that work. I can understand you wanting to do it full-time but it won’t pay the bills. Rabbit meat played a large part in my childhood as my uncle was an estate manager in Lincolnshire. At least that was the story I got. I have often wondered whether poacher might’ve been slightly more accurate. I have a wonderful memory of a rabbit pie my aunt made which I was allowed to stay up for and eat well past my bedtime.

I am so happy to see other people joining (and re-joining) the challenge. I’ve had to take a break for a few days but I shall be back at it when I can.

Very wise.

Saved a little of the beef gyudon from lunch and served it over noodles for dinner. I supplemented with some broccoli, some slow cooked onions and peppers and, underneath the scallions, a poached egg.
-
Well that certainly brought a smile to my face. Thanks very much for answering my questions.

Does anyone know of a toaster-oven that can maintain accurate temperature?

Yes I had my suspicions! -
Beef gyudon. One of the easiest and one of my favourite Japanese comfort foods. Beef and onion cooked in a well-flavoured dashi broth over steamed rice.

I just know this is going to come out wrong so I trust you to read between the lines because I am not just being a smart ass. I don’t like tea as a drink. I don’t care if it’s black, green, red, iced. But it is often the case that an ingredient used in a different way can appeal even to a “hater”. What is the likelihood that I might like the smoked duck or the shrimp? I’m not asking you to get inside my head only to tell me if there is a marked change. Oh, nevermind. I’ll just have to find out for myself. Still, I’d like to see your response. Perhaps you even know someone who dislikes tea as a drink.....

Quite the coincidence. I just ran across this restaurant name very close to where @Kerry Beal and I hang out and had asked her before reading this if we could check it out at some point. No idea if it is part of the same chain or not.

Perhaps if you told is why you need such accuracy in an oven we might be better equipped to help you out. -
I would promise to be there in time for dinner but given the snow here and temperatures in the very minuses and the snow there it doesn’t seem very likely that I’ll make it in time. Darn.

I did the same thing but with my eyes wide open. I loved her first book, which I got on sale, so much I didn’t mind paying for the second one.

Perhaps more brunch than lunch since it’s already after noon. But like @JoNorvelleWalker, above, I rarely respect time zones or meals times. Mixed rice onigri with sugar snaps, tamagoyaki with Serrano ham, cherry tomato, and slow cooked onions and sweet peppers.

Thank you as always for taking the time to do this. I was initially underwhelmed with Bento Power. Some of it Is personal bias against anything purporting to be “power” food or “health” food. I consider most food to be both powerful and healthy. I also consider a well packed Bento to be healthy enough without quinoa, millet or hemp. But a second look suggests there might be one or two ideas worth pursuing. Without you I might not have even given it a second look. Dammit. Thanks to Amazon I can look back and see that I paid almost $19 For the Kindle edition. I think I might feel better about it at $.99.

Mixed rice, tamagoyaki with nori, cherry tomato and kimchi. I was given one of these and finally managed to get the ridge pattern on my rolled omelet.

I’m sorry. They were things happening in my life at the time and I did not get a photograph. I will mend my ways in future.

I am so with you there. Was fed too many horrible versions of it when my children were younger and we were invited to various potlucks. But your corn sticks do indeed look delicious.

Thank you. Yes we are aware of it. It is on our must-visit list. -
I am not sure what you are asking. After it came out of the Sous Vide bath, 54.5° for two hours, I iced it down and put it in the refrigerator. A couple of days later I re-thermed it for a very short time, seared it and ate it.
