    Breakfast 2019

I get the coffee but I will never be able to understand the muesli.

    Dinner 2019

Don’t ya hate when this happens? It’s a recurring occurrence at my house. Now there are all these ingredients but the star of the show is missing.
  3. We left a Little Current around 8:45, stopped to pick up breakfast in Espanola, stopped for a bathroom break in Sudbury (Tim Hortons are the best for that!) and arrived at my house about 3:30. By then we were all getting antsy and Kerry still had a half an hour or so before she was home with Kira. Bacon and egg McMuffin and hashbrowns for Kerry. Sausage McMuffin with egg (and pepper) for me. I really enjoyed it although I won’t make a habit of it. Thanks as always for your support and interest in our comings and goings.
  4. We’re still supposed to stick to food mostly and we do try. We veer off the beaten path once in a while! And our readers, who we appreciate so much, veer off the path frequently!
  5. If we can discuss whale curries on another thread can we discuss purple potamus sandwiches here? She was too cute not to mention. I have a thing about hippopotamuses and she will get added to my collection. I will not be making sandwiches from her. Instead I made this which is not nearly so cute: Tomatoes, sprinkled with TJ‘s umami powder and held together with kewpie mayo, between two slices of rye toast.
  6. Checked. Twice. Nada.
  7. Breakfast was too boring to post a photograph. I finished up the jar of Sicilian lemon marmalade on rye toast. Lunch was not very photogenic either but it was damn tasty. Fried egg and sliced tomato on really squishy white bread. I don’t think I have ever tried this combination before.
  8. I paid dearly for breakfast yesterday. Perhaps the human body requires a certain minimal level of booze before one introduces chips and dip. This morning even the words evoke gastric distress. And so back to a much more sensible breakfast idea. Sicilian lemon marmalade on rye toast.
  9. I thought about starting the intermittent fasting this morning but it makes for lousy photographs so I had this instead.
  10. If you are messing about with illegal liquor and stuff like that you might find yourself facing these people: Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC) But they likely won’t arrive in their red jackets nor on horseback.
  11. I don’t think I would attempt to cook them initially in the steam/bake mode. But I have to admit I have never tried.
  12. That will teach that Kerry Beal to laugh at me!
  13. So on Kerry’s orders and to help out @Smithy, I tried reheating some fries in the CSO. Bearing in mind that these were not the best fries to begin with I believe I brought them back to their less than perfect state by re-heating them for 10 minutes at 325°F using the steam/bake function. The convection/bake works neither better nor worse in this oven than it does in any countertop oven. The secret is the steam/bake function. Yes it is counterintuitive to think that steam/bake would crisp anything up but take my word for it. Fries or fried chicken same thing ——steam/bake. Edited to add that I used the tray that came with the oven and lined it with foil and put it into the toast position.
  14. Nose to tail eating all the way.
  15. While I was growing up the main meal of the day was the midday meal. I think it is unfortunate that most of us have somehow drifted away from that pattern and now eat our major meal in the evening. Perhaps it wasn’t exactly fasting but it did make sure that our greatest caloric intake happened in the middle of the day.
  16. I, on the other hand, I have never successfully made a tasty gravy this way. My freezer once held quite a population of things labelled “osmazome”. Now I make better use of that real estate. I.m wit @JoNorvelleWalker.

    Dinner 2019

@JoNorvelleWalker Tripped breaker or not that is a masterpiece!
  18. I’d expect to find something with a name like that on the crash cart in Emerg.
  19. I just spit my coffee all over my iPad. I know that you mean the Mexican dish but as soon as I read it I was reminded that at one time I honestly believed that moleskin came from moles. I used to think that there were people who sat around skinning moles. So you see how I made the leap to you intimating that it was a hot mole sandwich.
  20. We have had some very good food at that same place. I know it changed hands. From now on we have determined that they still do a decent all-day breakfast. We’ll stick to that. We have so many good meals out so I got over this one pretty fast! Thanks for your empathy.
  21. OK my conscience will not allow me to let this statement stand as is. Next to this I rate this the second worst meal that I have endured while out with Kerry. A tasteless, dry hockey puck hidden between two slices of bread, smothered in cornflour and colouring and accompanied by cold, overcooked, utterly bland (probably canned) carrots. I managed a couple of bites. We headed off island today to escape the gridlock in Little Current. It is after all Haweater Weekend. As we left the Island we began to wonder if we would ever manage to get back on! Cars were lined up for literally miles trying to get onto the Island for the celebrations. We were lucky. By the time we returned a few hours later we were second in line to cross the bridge and Kerry knew the way to get around the gridlock down town.
  22. Good morning. Thought you might enjoy an early morning giggle. We have a bit of a standing joke here. If one or the other sleeps a bit later than usual, when they finally crawl out of bed they are greeted with, “Well it’s about time. I was ready to call the coroner.” Kerry was on a 24-hour shift in emergency and apparently her usual luck deserted her last night! Glad I don’t have to worry about the state of her health if she sleeps til noon.
  23. Bacon butty the way it used to be before we started faffing around with our food for photographs and insisting on tableware.
  24. Maybe it was the sound of success. Moments after this happened he disappeared while my attention was elsewhere. Kerry spotted him just heading onto Highway 6.
