You’re the best. Why didn’t I think of that.

If you mix them with a little Spam maybe.

Thanks. But amazingly somebody handed the doctor my meal tray and said since you’re going in there you might as well take it. Apparently our doctors are willing to do anything. We were both quite amused .

Thanks to everyone. I know that the sausage McMuffin is not the healthiest meal choice but what’s healthy about a meal you cannot eat?

So I am in the hospital. I’m not prepared to discuss my health issues nor am I looking for your sympathy just want you to look at my food. You can sympathize with that if you want. So breakfast this morning was: Multi grain Cheerios? I am a woman I gave up childish things some time ago. Whoever thought chia-date Pita it would be a good idea. I would’ve preferred to slap my toppings on a piece of fresh cardboard. Don’t eat processed food they say. What the hell do you think margarine is? I would rather have a teaspoon of butter made by a cow than a tablespoon of margarine made by a chemist I had to read the menu to learn that the drink was coffee. But thumbs up to the dietary staff. On this visit at least they managed to get it to me hot. Spring water? Our “corporation pop” —city water is just fine thank. Perhaps they meant me to quietly. drown the Cheerios in it? No photo but my family came to the rescue with sausage McMuffin with egg from McDonald’s and put it briefly in the microwave to melt the cheese and amuse @rotuts. They also brought me a coffee from my very own coffee maker at home and put it in an insulated commuter cup. It was clearly identifiable as coffee. Stay tuned for more exciting discoveries in hospital food. And by the way I am not allergic to all shellfish only to crab but they couldn’t even get that right.

Two of the ladies who lunch are back in town! We are so out of practice – – not in eating but in documenting our meal. We went back to one of our favourite Thai restaurants, Pintoh, in Burlington. If anything, their food is even better than before and they are not bowing to any wussy Westerners! Kerry’s ginger tea and my Pinot Grigio. You cannot see very much of my wine because I had to drastically edit the photograph so you would not be disturbed by the presence of a very ageing and unlovely arm. Mine. But one glass of white wine looks very much like every other glass of white wine so I don’t think you’re missing much. Twovappetizers: Squid and pork skewers. Oh those pork skewers! They were fatty and delicious and moreish. And the dipping sauce in the rear was so hot it almost took my head off! As I said they do not cater to wussy Westerners. There is also some sticky rice on the plate. Duck laarb. Oh so very good. We also shared a Penang chicken curry which was quite delicious but as I said we are out of practice and no photograph was taken of this dish. There were some leftovers and I thought about taking a photograph of the leftovers but it was just going to look more like a dog’s dinner than it usually does! But it too was quite delicious. Throughout lunch we “flirted“ with a tiny girl at another table who was with her parents and was so very cute. She wanted to interact and would take the first step but then shyness would overcome her and she would look away. When they left, her parents attempted to have her say goodbye but she was having none of it. So much more fun than watching sports on television in roadhouses.😂

Whew. I thought perhaps that trip to Scotland had dislodged some part of your frontal lobe.

I get the coffee but I will never be able to understand the muesli.

Don’t ya hate when this happens? It’s a recurring occurrence at my house. Now there are all these ingredients but the star of the show is missing.

We left a Little Current around 8:45, stopped to pick up breakfast in Espanola, stopped for a bathroom break in Sudbury (Tim Hortons are the best for that!) and arrived at my house about 3:30. By then we were all getting antsy and Kerry still had a half an hour or so before she was home with Kira. Bacon and egg McMuffin and hashbrowns for Kerry. Sausage McMuffin with egg (and pepper) for me. I really enjoyed it although I won’t make a habit of it. Thanks as always for your support and interest in our comings and goings.

We’re still supposed to stick to food mostly and we do try. We veer off the beaten path once in a while! And our readers, who we appreciate so much, veer off the path frequently!

If we can discuss whale curries on another thread can we discuss purple potamus sandwiches here? She was too cute not to mention. I have a thing about hippopotamuses and she will get added to my collection. I will not be making sandwiches from her. Instead I made this which is not nearly so cute: Tomatoes, sprinkled with TJ‘s umami powder and held together with kewpie mayo, between two slices of rye toast.

Checked. Twice. Nada.

Breakfast was too boring to post a photograph. I finished up the jar of Sicilian lemon marmalade on rye toast. Lunch was not very photogenic either but it was damn tasty. Fried egg and sliced tomato on really squishy white bread. I don’t think I have ever tried this combination before.

I paid dearly for breakfast yesterday. Perhaps the human body requires a certain minimal level of booze before one introduces chips and dip. This morning even the words evoke gastric distress. And so back to a much more sensible breakfast idea. Sicilian lemon marmalade on rye toast.

I thought about starting the intermittent fasting this morning but it makes for lousy photographs so I had this instead.

If you are messing about with illegal liquor and stuff like that you might find yourself facing these people: Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC) But they likely won’t arrive in their red jackets nor on horseback.
-
I don’t think I would attempt to cook them initially in the steam/bake mode. But I have to admit I have never tried.
-
That will teach that Kerry Beal to laugh at me!

So on Kerry’s orders and to help out @Smithy, I tried reheating some fries in the CSO. Bearing in mind that these were not the best fries to begin with I believe I brought them back to their less than perfect state by re-heating them for 10 minutes at 325°F using the steam/bake function. The convection/bake works neither better nor worse in this oven than it does in any countertop oven. The secret is the steam/bake function. Yes it is counterintuitive to think that steam/bake would crisp anything up but take my word for it. Fries or fried chicken same thing ——steam/bake. Edited to add that I used the tray that came with the oven and lined it with foil and put it into the toast position.

Nose to tail eating all the way.

While I was growing up the main meal of the day was the midday meal. I think it is unfortunate that most of us have somehow drifted away from that pattern and now eat our major meal in the evening. Perhaps it wasn’t exactly fasting but it did make sure that our greatest caloric intake happened in the middle of the day.

I, on the other hand, I have never successfully made a tasty gravy this way. My freezer once held quite a population of things labelled “osmazome”. Now I make better use of that real estate. I.m wit @JoNorvelleWalker.

@JoNorvelleWalker Tripped breaker or not that is a masterpiece!
