  2. Vegetable art (at least I think it's vegetable). It is for sale if anyone is interested.
  3. Breakfast at Lucy in Yountville. It is open at 7 AM which is great for this early rising couple from east coast. Duck confit hash for me, chilaquiles for DH. Egg yolk on duck confit looks ready to ooze eggy goodness...
  4. View of air balloons this morning while driving to breakfast.
  5. Dinner last night at Acacia House, Chris Cosentino restaurant in St. Helena. Sweet breads and hamchi crudo for starters. Sweet breads were more creamy than usual, the server said it was because they came from young cows and not from calves. Bucattini with sea urchin and pork schnitzel with caviar beurre blanc for the main course. Schnitzel was exceptionally flavorful.
  6. Not life changing. That a very accurate way to describe it.
  7. I decided that we are going to eat at the new places on this trip. The first meal upon landing was at In and Out Burger. My first time. The place was packed, drive through line super long. It was an ok burger. Not something that I am going to crave in the future.
  8. Stopped on the way to buy a bottle of dry Riesling
  9. The kitchen. Very nice. For some reason we have not one, not two, but three coffee makers. Gas stove.
  10. We are back in Napa! Staying the whole week. They are experiencing a heat wave, current temp is 111. Yikes. The rest of the week looks better. We rented a house in St. Helena, my cousin and her husband will join us for a few weeks. call me crazy but I had to bring the essentials. A chefs knife purchased in thrift shop for 25 cents. I am afraid to check my good knives while flying. This knife is not bad, I made it razor sharp. The logo says "Westminster" and made in Japan. A paring knife, also a thrift store find. Lodge cast iron skillet. Spatula, lime press, microplane, thermometer, peeler, measuring cup.

    Finishing what I have in the fridge. No bread, so marrow bones are served with zucchini. Actually, not a terrible combo.

  13. Fried rice with bacon, chicken, salami, corn, egg. We are going out of town tomorrow, trying to eat as much of what's in the fridge as possible. I am so proud of Griswold skillet handling fried rice without anything sticking to it!
  14. Please don't kill the messenger. Today's kindle deal is 50 cookbooks. Including Vivian Howard!
  15. Left over wild salmon mixed with smoked salmon, capers, cucumbers, mayo on toasted onion roll.

    Assorted tomatoes with hearts of palm, sweet onions, basil. Dressed with olive oil and lime juice.
