Today I had all the fixings for a breakfast taco, minus the tortillas. Scrambled eggs with pork sausage, shredded cheddar, and salsa - and a side of avocado slices.

We've been on mandatory water conservation since early in June. Got a call from the city today letting us know that we are now back to stage one - voluntary conservation - due to recent rains and everyones efforts to conserve. How is summer treating you and your garden? Garlic Chives in bloom, with Swiss Chard and Sage in the background.

Dinner tonight: Carnitas and Avocado on a bed of Romaine with Pico de Gallo, Cilantro and Crema Salvadorena.

Norm - lovely looking ribs! Last night, I grilled a couple of Slipper Lobster Tails, all the while basting them with melted garlic butter. I reserved one of the tails for lunch today (see the Lunch topic). The other Tail, with more of the melted garlic butter, and Green Peas with Onion was last night's dinner.

I grilled a couple of slipper lobster tails last night. Had one for dinner and used the other one to make a lobster salad for lunch today. The salad was stuffed onto half an avocado. Two of my favorite foods - avocado and lobster!

This morning I had some fried ham and a sunny side up egg. Kim - I, too, love steak with eggs for breakfast. I like to add some pico de gallo and a warm flour tortilla.

Kim - yes indeedy. We cleaned them real good. And I love the close up of your shrimp. Tonight we had Grilled Chicken Thighs and Braised Baby Bok Choy.

SobaAddict70 - watch what you think - I may be listening! Your dish sounds and looks great!

Thank you, Bruce! I'll trade my Mapo Tofu for your Chard with potatoes and chorizo. It looks wonderful. I'll have to give it a try soon.

Last night was experiment night. I tried my hand at making Mapo Tofu and need to try again. It looked and smelled great but unfortunately there was way too much heat for our tastes. Back to the drawing board on this one. Tonight was tried and true grilled lamb rib chops. A couple got a little more done than I like but DH likes them that way. We had them with a caesar salad and steamed broccoli.

I like them roasted and added to a salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and green onion) along with hard cooked egg and grilled shrimp.

Great Blog! My husband and I lived in Spring Hill, KS (just south of Olathe) for a few years in the early 80's. I didn't get into KC very often but I do remember visiting the Plaza when my parents came to visit one time. We ate at the Longhorn Saloon and I had my very first Potato Skins. Still one of my favorite foods!

Today's breakfast was a fried egg (over easy) on a pork sausage patty.

Kim and Percyn - thanks for compliments on previous breakfasts. This was Saturday morning's breakfast - just a simple sunny side up egg, fried in butter, and two slices of applewood smoked bacon. kayb - Wright's is my bacon of choice, too.

Independence, Missouri is where Hazel's Country Cafe is located. Don't know who the blogger is though. -
Catching up on a few recent lunches. The day after the 4th of July, I met with my regular LWL GF and a group of her fellow hospice volunteers for their monthly lunch. This one was held at Fish Tales in Galveston on Seawall Blvd. I drove myself down as I wanted to walk along the seawall before and do some shopping and photo taking after the lunch. The light was really dim in the part of the restuarant where we were seated so I was only able to get a good photo of my own dish. I had their Greek Salad with Grilled Shrimp. The salad itself was just okay but the shrimp were great. After I left the ladies, I went over to the harbor side of the island and took some photos of the pelicans that hang out near pier 19, and bought a fresh red snapper at Katie's to take home for dinner that night. Then I went back over to the gulf side and took a bunch of photos of the pelicans flying overhead. Still haven't snapped that perfect inflight photo. I going to head down there again on Friday to make another attempt. Yesterday, my GF and I drove across Houston (37 miles each way) to a Polish restaurant named Polonia that I had read about on Chowhound's Houston Board. My GF had the Veal Snitzel (which she liked very much) and it came with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The sauerkraut was not quite sour enough for her. And I had the Sizzling Kielbasa that also came with sauerkraut. The sausage was very nice but I like mine a bit spicier. After our lunch we visited Polonia's Food Store, which is just a block or so down the street from the restaurant. We were both so busy shopping that we totally forgot to take any photos. My GF bought various chocolates, a cheese cake, and some frozen perogies. I can't remember which variety she chose. I bought a package of potato perogies and one of beef and pork. I also got some garlic sausage for my DH. Today I had an appointment to get my hair cut. After my trim, I went to Gringo's Mexican Kitchen (located just a few blocks from the hair salon) for my lunch. So just one lady who lunched. But, man, it was so good! I had their version of a cobb salad - Chicken Cabo Salad - grilled chicken, crispy bacon, chunks of avocado, diced Roma tomatoes, black olives, chopped hard cooked egg, and grated cheddar & jack cheese on a bed of crispy chopped romaine.

Great blog! I need to visit San Diego and La Jolla again soon. You've given us so many places I want to visit. And great photos by your hubby - mine says he is making him look bad. -
Bacon and Mushroom Breakfast "Pizza" - I cooked the bacon until crisp and sauteed the mushrooms with some onion in butter and set them aside. I seasoned the eggs with a small pinch of oregano, granulated garlic, salt and black pepper and cooked them in more butter. When the eggs were almost set, I topped them with shredded mozzarella and the mushroom mix and put the pan under a pre-heated broiler just until the cheese was melted and bubbly; then slid them out onto my plate. After taking the photo, I crumbled the bacon on top.

I received a Harry and David Gift Basket at Christmas time that included a jar of Roasted Red Pepper and Artichoke Spread. It was very good on slices of artisan bread and also when tossed with warm pasta. I have the ingredient list and would like to make my own. Anyone have a tried and true recipe for this spread? The ingredient list is roasted red peppers, artichokes, extra virgin olive oil, parmesan cheese, parsley, capers, roasted garlic, water, lemon juice concentrate, citric acid, salt and sugar.

Maybe not the most conventional of breakfasts, but delicious all the same. Chicken Salad and Avocado on Honey Wheat made a nice cool start to what is going to be another very warm day.
