Realized my error too late to edit the original post. Should have typed 1987 or 1988, as the book was published in 1986.

Today: Fried Egg (Sunnyside Up) with Sriracha, on Refried Beans and White Corn Tortilla

Kim Shook said: and Thank you Kim. The Chicken Marsala is one of our long time favorites from 365 Ways To Cook Chicken. I think I made it for the first time in 1977 or 1978. The hummus is a new thing for me to make but it will be made again soon. Enjoy your trip to France and England - can't wait to hear all about it! dcarch said: Thanks dcarch, but I must give credit to hubby as he did the grilling that night. Your rack of lamb for Mother's Day looked fabulous! Dinner last night was Linguine alla Carbonara.

Tonight: Grilled Beef Rib Eye with a Red Potato and Green Pea Salad

Dinner last night was repeats of some recent dishes, with a different twist: Appetizer: Hummus with Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, Sriracha and Parsley (no moat) - served with tortilla chips instead of naan. DH really liked the addition of the sriracha sauce. Main Course: Fish Tacos - Deep Fried Cornmeal Crusted Halibut with Avocado Chunks, Pico de Gallo, Cilantro and White Sauce on Corn Tortillas. The crust was very nice - equal parts cornmeal to A/P flour seasoned with paprika, black pepper, salt, msg and granulated garlic.

I've used some of the dill fronds in a sauce to accompany fish and in a dip for chips but now, due to our extremely dry and hot Spring weather, my dill is already going to seed.

I didn't know hostas were edible! I'll have to give mine a try. How do you prepare them?

I have a few things like that in the kitchen but I'm considering a bigger, dedicated clock that doesn't require focusing on a small, incidental digital readout on an appliance. Yes, I have an old battery operated wall clock over the sink, in addition to the digital ones on the micro, the rice cooker, the oven, and the tv. I tried moving the wall clock out of the kitchen, but after constantly looking at the spot on the wall where it used to be for well over a week, I put it back.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!! We had a total of four (3 gals and a guy) for lunch at El Real today. My gf and I lunched with eG members Jaymes and brucesw. It was so much fun to meet and put faces to names! We met at the restaurant at one o'clock, skipping the lunch crush, so were able to eat and relax and talk. We started with Guacamole, Chile Con Queso and Chips. All very good! For our meals, we each ordered one of the enchilada plates, which come with rice, refried beans and a beverage. My gf had the Enchiladas #7 (3 cheese enchiladas with chili con carne), brucesw ordered the El Gallo Verde (chicken enchiladas with salsa verde), and Jaymes and I each had the Enchiladas Borunda (West Texas stacked enchiladas with tender pork and guajillo chile), with a fried egg on top! I tried to get a photo of each of the plates but the lighting made it very difficult and all of the shots, except one, were too blurry to use. The one that did come out is the Enchiladas Borunda. All of us thoroughly enjoyed the food. Our waiter, Shannon, and the other staff were friendly and efficient, and the manager, Stephano, stopped by our table to make sure we were happy with everything. We really had a great time and are planning to meet again next month - restaurant yet to be determined!

Happy Birthday Marlene! That calamari looks awesome! I have 2 1/2 pounds of squid bodies in the freezer that are going to get that treatment real soon. Tomorrow, my regular 'Ladies Who Lunch' gf and I are meeting up with another eGulleteer or two for a Cinco de Mayo lunch meet-up at Houston's new El Real Tex-Mex Cafe.

We have a Sharp Carousel 1200 watts. We purchased this one after our old one died due to Hurricane Ike in 2008. I can't remember what wattage the old one had but this one heats things up faster, at a lower setting. We mainly use it to reheat leftovers and as a proofing box.

This whole repast leaps out at me, robirdstx. Gorgeous. Thank you, Blether. My hummus was based on the recipe provided by Suvir Saran in the second post in this topic from 2002. And Ellen Shapiro's post (#9), in the same topic, gave me the moat! The quinoa pilaf was the recipe on the back of the box (Ancient Harvest brand); the recipe is also posted on their company website. The quinoa was very easy to make - I just added the seeds and cooking liquid (I used turkey broth) to my rice cooker and pressed the 'Cooking' button. I'll definitely be making this dish again.

This morning I had reheated, leftover Quinoa Pilaf from dinner last night. I particularly liked the almonds in this dish, it added a nice crunch!

Today I made a couple of dishes for the first time. The first was Hummus. (Note the cute little moat filled with olive oil and lemon juice. ) We had the hummus with some Homemade Naan. For our main course, we had the last of the Steelhead Trout, wrapped in foil and baked with red onion, lemon slices and dots of butter. The second new dish was a Quinoa Pilaf. This was our first time having quinoa and we liked it! We also had a tomato, cucumber and red onion salad that was dressed with some of the creamy dill sauce that accompanied the fish.

Hi patrickamory, thank you. Yep, down here in Texas! We had some of the chicken leftover, so we had Chicken Quesadillas the next night, but not before a little snack of Chips and Guacamole while catching up on email. Dinner tonight was Chicken Marsala with Bowtie Pasta.

Now I want Roast Chicken a la Chris Taylor! Dinner tonight was Chicken Fajitas with Avocado, Pico de Gallo, Shredded Cheddar and Sour Cream and a Black Bean and Corn Salad with Orange Bell Pepper and Red Onion.

A few recent lunches: Late last month, my GF and I had lunch at the South Shore Grille, located near the south shore of Clear Lake in League City. I had been there a couple of times for dinner, but this was a first time for both of us for lunch. We both selected their version of a Cuban. She had the whole sandwich, while I had the half with a cup of tortilla soup. And since I was the designated driver, my GF opted for a cocktail to go with her lunch. The sandwich was very good; the soup, however, was very salty and I did not take more than a couple of tastes. GF's Chocotini, fortunately, was a hit! At the start of April, we tried a new to us Chinese place on the north shore of Clear Lake in Seabrook, Cafe 1979. We had a perfect view of the lake on a lovely day, but I forgot to snap a pic. I did, however, remember to photograph our food! I had the Chicken in Garlic Sauce with an egg roll and fried rice. I also had a bowl of wonton soup that was the best I've ever had. The broth was very light and almost clear, but so full of flavor. GF had the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, along with the egg roll, fried rice, and the wonton soup. After a minor mix-up where the waiter brought her the wrong plate, my GF pronounced her dish exactly what she had been wanting. And mid-month I had lunch, on the porch at the Blue Iguana, with my DH while in Magnolia for the town's annual Depot Day. We weren't really too hungry so just shared a Fajita Steak Quesadilla. After lunch, we stopped in Tomball to do some antiquing. I found a copy of Diana Kennedy's Tortilla Book and a 1971 copy of the Fisherman's Wharf cookbook. Total cost $3.90 Score!

You could send it to me! Use the ham bone and some of the ham for ham and bean soup, using great northern or navy beans, carrots and onion. The soup freezes well. Goes great with warm cornbread slathered with butter.

rro - OMG! I don't usually do sweet for breakfast but the photo of that sticky bun could change my mind! This morning I wanted an omelette but my folding skills are pathetic, so I made an unfolded one with diced ham, green onion, and shredded cheddar.
