  1. I would love to learn to make the Uighur spicy beef noodle soup...or was that Hui..I think it's a Hui classic.
  2. AHAHAHAHAHHAA! CLASSIC!
  3. Thanks alot for the recipes Jaymes And I'll go look up those Southern threads woohoo!
  4. Wow traditional Greenlandic cuisine sounds quite interesting. I wouldn't mind trying something like that as described in the article. As long as it's well cooked I don't think I'd have a problem. Have you ever tried any other Greenlandic food? I'm pretty fascinated by it now, thanks to you Well it would make perfect sense why Inuits would eat seals according to your description of its nourishment With the environment they live in, who wouldn't?! The taste and smell still lingering in a pot...does that mean seals have a very gamey smell and taste? Like how mutton can be fairly smelly sometimes. I'll keep that in mind MUAHAHAHA! Sounds like something I'd do...shhh
  5. Hahaha! You're right It looks very plain but it truly is quite delicious
  6. LuckysticksPRC: Your fried egg pancake sounds abosutely mouth watering! Do you think you could find out the name for me please? Ahh yes unlike her, I love to try every cuisines out there possible. I cannot live eating the same stuff my whole life because imo, what's the point of living if you can't enjoy the vast variety of foods in this world? The only thing I'm not willing to try is 'mystery meats' like cats, dogs or any kind of wild animal... p.s. FOOD IS LIFE! Oh and as for all this cat talk, here's a story for everyone. Here in Australia, a family friend had a bread shop with some Chinese employees (who had just arrived from China) who were ultimately the cause of the downfall for her business...why? It was found that they would smuggle people's pet cats and have them for lunch (or dinner, breakfast, snack, whatever it was)! This caused a stir because after many missing pets were reported, the police made a visit to our family friend's shop to do some random 'check-up'. She obviously had no idea but after her employee were caught red-handed, this left a taint on her business and she had to move to Sydney and start fresh. True story

    jumanggy: You SHOULD cook more...yum..
  8. Morten, what would you liken the taste of seal to? Btw, does that mean the liver is still...sort of 'functioning'...considering it's so fresh? .........................
  9. For the past year, I've taken an interest in the cuisine of the deep South Sadly, though, I'm pretty clueless as being from Australia, I wasn't exposed to much (if at all) of it. There are, however, a few Southern restaurants over here that I plan to visit some time soon Basically, I'm wondering if anyone can offer me some delectable Southern recipes? As long as the recipes don't involve ingredients that are too difficult to find, I welcome all Also, I'm not a very good cook as I've only recently been brave enough to try my hand at it (I have, however, ALWAYS loved food) and so I would prefer something simple. With that said, ANY recipe is good. Thank you!
  10. As long as the lamb doesn't have a strong smell, I am absolutely in love with it in any form (almost) Oh yes, I do love Uighur breads. I'm not sure why any form of bread that has had a Middle Eastern/Central Asian influence seems to be some of the best in the world! Oh and I think the thought of eating a cat itself simply doesn't sit well with me Even if it's not rotten lol........ Wow your gf really does remind me of myself hahaha! I think I would be good friends with her
  11. That is...truly disgusting...I had to scroll down quickly past it because it gives me the shivers but I came to the shocking conclusion that I couldn't scroll down much further...CONGRATS!

    C. sapidus: Hmm I guess you need to be watchful...but I'm sure that won't stop you from making beautiful food either way How did you make this devilishly good looking meal?
  15. Blue Eye Dragon Cuisine: Taiwanese (pretty much covers all regional China) Simplistic but classy surroundings with a Chinese accent Steamed pork dumplings with Chives, Ginger and Shallot -these were HUGGEEEE! Really good stuff. This is the HIGHLIGHT of the night! Calamari Rolls with Salted Duck Egg and Seaweed...sooo good! Never tasted anything like it yum.. Crispy Prawn Rolls with House Plum Sauce - these are basically spring rolls with a nori wrapped around them. They were, however, of superior quality to those served at most other restuarants. Pork Belly slow cooked in Soy, Aniseed, Garlic & Light Chilli - warm and comforting for your stomach Tofu Stuffed with Minced Pork & Prawns on Hot Plate -one of my sister's favourites Braised Beef Brisket with Aniseed, Ginger, Light Chilli, Tomato .........desserts now Sticky Rice with Chinese Wolfberries & Sultana, finishes with Sweet Peanut Powder and Coriander - I must say, while this doesn't look all that spectacular, this dish, like everything at this restaurant, is superior quality to most Chinese restaurants. You can taste the difference! Sweet Red Bean with Vanilla Ice Cream Sticky Rice Cakes in Ginger Syrup & Sweet Peanut Powder - I normally don't like this dessert but it's quite nice here Oh and can I just recommend that if you ever go here, some other dishes that are said to be really good are: - Stewed Beef Shin with Sesame Oil and Shallot - Chicken with Water Chestnuts & Onion in Bean Curd Pastry - Prawns with Jade's Bloody Plum Sauce I must come back for these! The service here is also worthy of making a note about. Very welcoming and helpful with plenty of suggestions The ambience is great too. It looks like an upper-end restarant but without the deafening silence while you're eating - I was fairly loud while chatting away and rolling (not literally ) with laughter (friend's jokes) at this place and noone thought it out of the ordinary While the decoration is kept to a minimum, there are some beautiful Chinese ornaments that are tastefully displayed. Address: Shop 2, 42 Harris Street, Pyrmont P: (02) 9518 9955
  16. Made 'sweet tea-soaked eggs' (using mum's recipe) today -good and simple
  17. Big Bunny: Thank you! I shall check that out now
  18. insomniac: Thanks for comfort My problem is that I just can't get the thoughts out of my head...I believe I'm a really paranoid person, esp when it comes to umm 'mystery' meats hahaha! But you're right -I will try to keep my mind blank until I sink my teeth into the delicious street foods mmm...
  19. Pam R: Your fresh baked bread looks really hearty Mum taught me how to make Sweet tea-soaked eggs today -really simple and good stuff (though maybe a bit on the weird side for others)
  20. bethpageblack: I do have a thirst for knowledge of all things historically related to food as well I have this fascination with the origins of different dishes and how certain cuisines came to have formed -that's why I love cookbooks that give a thorough history on each recipe within it Mmm the lamb you had sounds just like the kind I love -indeed without the overly 'gamey' smell but also tender I never knew there were so many Uighur/Xinjiang people and restaurants in Guangzhou. I thought they would've been more heavily based in the northern and (naturally) western reaches of China. As for your stray cat kebab story................YIKES! This is exactly why I have a fear of eating street food if I ever travel (I intend to of course) to Asia! Those food vendors in Asia are what makes the places so charming to me -but I've got no idea which ones are safe to eat and which arent...
  21. Dejah thanks for your compliments How did your new American buddies find the mooncake? LOL my dad's non-Asian friend thought the concept of an 'egg inside a cake' very strange hahhaha!

    C. sapidus: Thanks for the compliment And yes we do get lovely produce here in Australia *proud face*. No head-on prawns? Whereabouts do you live? Edit: I forgot to mention that your 'banh mi' looks absolutely stunning Better than the ones I see sold definately. Mmm...char siu...
  23. WOW...I'm speechless. That was a very well done and DETAILED way of putting the taste and texture of a gigantic seal eyeball into words Eww...well if a man can place his fear aside to do something so disgusting (to me) for a woman, he is well worth marrying!
  24. OMG I love tajines! Is that coconut milk inside it? I can't WAIT to see the results! Unfortunately, I don't have a tajine and have no idea where to buy it. Is there such thing as a substitute for a tajiine?
  25. Thanks for all the help v. gautam and percyn. Next time I go to an Indian restaurant, I know exactly WHAT to order
