  1. Being from Verona.. my parents tell me about this diner and how Morris used to stand by the door of the kitchen and watch the plates being brought out and if he was not happy with what he saw, they would be returned back to the kitchen. I am 33 and never went there but do recall when they rebuilt what currently is Montclair Acura and did try to open it as a diner for a short while. It also was Harolds Pub and a Bobby Rubino's as well. I do miss the White Castle on the corner.
  2. I went to Rutts the other night for 2 wellers and an onion ring. I saw the guy throwing the dogs into the grease fresh out of the Thumann's box and thought of John. So some trivia.. anyknow what what: a) marvis b) howdy are the slang for at the Hutt?
  3. The owners of the Pilgrim diner act like they are doing you a favor when you walk into that place.
  4. I want an E-Gullet.com t-shirt!
  5. I concur on the Whippany diner. Never ever walk out of that place hungry.
  6. I can never seem to find anything there that really blows up my skirt. I don't know what it is about the menu but nothing there excites me.
  7. JJ's hot dog wagon on Bloomfield Avenue in Newark. Just Kidding! All I can really think of are some diners. I don't know if Jose Tejas on Rt 46 stays open late nor TGI Friday's in West Orange and at West Belt Mall in Wayne. Some diners open late: Pilgrim (yuck) - Rt 23 in Cedar Grove Versailles - Rt 46 in Fairfield Willies & Nevada diners in Bloomfield
  8. Well I have had the "all the way" sauce at Rascals on Rt 46 (no longer there) and at Hot Grill in Clifton on Lexington. I never seen chili sauce at Rutts. Everyone get's the mustard/relish and some people get cheese (yuck). The people that used to own the Rascals on Rt 46 used to give me a quart or two of the sauce to take back to Florida with me.
  9. I never had anything there that has BBQ sauce on it? Are you thinking of a different place?
  10. According to my dad who is from Passaic, I believe the family name that owned it was Ruttman???
  11. I went to the Hot Grill the other night and had 2 all the way and some fries with gravy. Everything was status quo for me.
  12. Funny first place that popped into my mind was the Villiage Cupboard in Bloomfield as Susan mentioned.
  13. I'm ready for another E-Gullet trip to Rutts.
  14. GNC for food.. hahah Williams Sonoma - if they have any free samples!
  15. So what do you guys recommend for this year? I am up here in Verona. Something in the area.. not too too expensive.
  16. I'd be interested in going to the BBQ.

    Two-tone Oreos

My father used to work for NABISCO and he took me to the bakery in Philly. Yes, I had an OREO right off the belt coming out of the oven! yum yum yum yum Also note that it is VERY clean and sanitary in there.
  18. Went to Brookside Thai with my brother last night. (On Broad Street in Bloomfield - there is a topic on this somewhere). We had vegetarian Spring Rolls, Beef Satay for appetizers. He had some sort of Chicken Panang which was spicy! I had the ever trusty Chicken Pad Thai. To drink I had coconut juice which was served in an actual coconut which was way cool. They removed the hard outside and carved down the meat along the sides and top and bottom. Very interesting. My brother ordered an order of Chicken Pad Thai to go and the total check was $25.00 for the both of us. The food was excellent as always. This is a family run place and I always enjoy talking to the owners - very friendly.

    Boynton Beach

The Boy's is like a non stop traffic jam of alta-koka's
  20. ROFL - macrosan! I am boring - just like it with some butter and salt on top.
  21. What ever happened to the Pleasentdale bakery in West Orange?
  22. I like the bread at Joe's in Short Hills Mall. Probably the best part of the meal. I had been to this place in Boston as they come from New England. It was in a mall up there across from a Friendly's - which would you choose? Of course I had ice cream for desert. Friendly's Pistachio! yum yum
  23. Looks like my mom will be coming over and cooking Passover supper this year. She obtained 3-5lb boxes of Matzo from Shop-Rite by spending $50 and getting each one free. What would you do with all that matzo? Anyway I am sure matzo ball soup and a nice brisket will be in order.
  24. There is a Stir Crazy in the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, FL - and I have been there many times and really enjoy it. I typically order the Crazy Chow Fun - It's a large portion of flat noodles in a black oyster sauce with some veggies and I like the taste. Round that out with a glass of ice tea (I think it's peach) and I am happy. I think this is more of an enjoyable lunch place if you are at the mall with your girlfriend or significant other. I wouldn't go there with a large group or for dinner on a Saturday night. Off topic, last night I went to Houston's in the Hackensack mall (where there is a Cheescake Factory) with my brother. We got there at roughly 7:00 and was told an hour and a quarter wait. We then walked around the mall and came back and found the line and people hanging out in the bar area to be packed. We finially got our 2 top table which was against the glass window behind the bar area. We felt like we were on display, but after a hour wait and it was 8:00 PM we were hungry and it wasn't too annoying. As there was lots of cute women around! Speaking of that my brother said "this croud is pretty pretentious isn't it?" It's cool when you can make jokes like that. So anyhow we both had Caesar Salads and he ordered a fish dinner and I had my usual hickory burger. The service was good and the food was the standard that you get each time. I like the skinny fries you get with the burger. Total tab was $42.00 bux. Salads were $4 each, my burger was $9 and his was around $13 and we had some ice tea. Nothing special but you know what you are going to get, and the scenery ain't so bad!
