  1. does anyone know where "paramus park" is?
  2. i don't know about "host," but i certainly cook at most friends' parties, and at my parents' parties as well. i'm a terrible host, as i like to just wander around and walk in and out of conversations all night, without ever really committing. kinda like i do around here i suppose.
  3. legal seafoods in paramus.
  4. well duh, you're not using enough.
  5. I've had several fine meals at the P&O and one or two that weren't OK. For the question that was asked, I believe my answer was both appropriate and suitable. de gustibus non disputandum esse but honestly, the place really isn't very good.
  6. Then just hire a helicopter. but i'm cheap.
  7. no no. i'm wealthy, so i can buy good taste. it's not a matter of understanding anything.
  8. fuck me. that's an expensive cab ride. i'll just have awbrig drive me. seems like a waste to travel 1.5 hours for this meal. that's a bit of a concern, as i have other obligations that day and early the next. i need to review the chef g stuff here. i totally forgot that he did a q&a, although i recall the surrounding events left quite a bad taste in my mouth.
  9. ok, how long of a cab ride is it at about 7.30. i'm just about sold.
  10. well duh, that's way the heck up in wherever. surely something in chicago proper comes close. surely. (but not trotters)
  11. too much. but we're not here to talk about that. mk's selections by the glass aren't listed. this could be a problem. most restaurants that focus on multi-course meals tend to offer more in the way of wine pairings. their wine programs are geared towards the food, and the specific dishes. this is a show-stopper as far as i'm concerned.
  12. regarding blackbird and mk, how is the wine service? this is rather important to me. the pairing of wine with dishes is a huge part of the meal. i don't want to ask a "cool and hip" server for advice. i want to simply suggest that i'd like suggestions from the sommelier on what wines might pair well with the dishes i choose, without the server looking utterly confused. any recs based on that requirement? additionally, if anyone is free on that thursday for lunch, i might consider flying in early, as i'll be on my own until midday.
  13. now i'm told i'll be staying in chicago. so i've reserved at trotters. the wiff tells me that it might be a waste of money, as we might not be in tip-top shape upon arriving in chicago. also, the 9 pm seating seems a bit late. i looked at the mk website, and it seems like my kind of place. i'm still very confused. mrs. tommy just expertly pm'd me and said that she's always wanted to try blackbird. how many votes for blackbird? do they be have a website?
  14. my opinion on this matter was recently swayed in a matter of minutes. i called Trio, in chicago, to make reservations. i was told that "out of town" guests need to supply a credit card number. when i asked what my obligation was, i was told that if i cancel up to 24 hrs before the ressie, no problem (this is good), and if i canceled after that, the credit card would be charged 25 dollars (getting worse) per person (now i'm almost mad) and that amount would then be sent to me in the form of a gift certificate as "we *do* want people to dine with us." an abosultely brilliant policy in my estimation. good for Trio! and jordyn, you're still wrong.
  15. thanks for this discourse, everyone. it has come to my attention that i'll most likely be staying in evanston. i also understand taht Trio is in evanston. this might make the decision pretty easy (unless i'm told that getting to chicago for other choices is relatively quick and easy by cab). cheers.
  16. if i turned on the Playboy channel and saw that i'd immediately pull up my pants and call the cable company demanding a refund.
  17. vegetarians don't like food? on another note, it was the first time i saw this show. it wasn't horrible. there are plenty of worse shows out there, some on tvfn.
  18. both. or thompson's book, given the choice.
  19. I agree re price. this place offers one of the best values in the area. shugga says i can see if one doesn't drink wine how park or river palm might be a better choice. however, for wine drinkers, there is just no way in hell that suggest that "for the price i'd not be in a hurry to go back." in fact, i often say "i can't afford to *not* eat here." my bill for the same dishes would have been twice as much at river palm, and probably Park as well.
  20. you can eat the stems and everything.
  21. this is especially apparent if one drinks through lunch and dinner. for some reason, one gets very hungry at about midnight. or when the bar closes. it *has* to be blood sugar.
  22. claire, 6 out of 7 experts have PM'd me and told me that you are in fact wrong. can we just move on? do i need to explain this over and over again? i mean, *6* experts for cryin out loud.
  23. while the logic seems obvious, i'm thinking it might have more to do with the intake of carbs and protein the night before. then again, i'm also thinking that it doesn't work this way anyway (going back to the apparent paradox of every diet suggesting 3 meals a day rather than 2). Whoah! I'm not suggesting eating 2 meals a day nor am I saying that it is beneficial to weight loss. I just think people who eat large dinners do not wake up hungry. Period. I don't think they should force feed themselves breakfast when their body is still trying to digest a porterhouse from the night before. whoa! i was simply suggesting that it might not be "calories", but rather "carbs" and "proteins" the night before that might affect/effect ones hunger in the morning.
  24. because it's a lot easier to search online than it is to thumb through mags? try again, dude.
  25. add Paul Blanck to the growing list of foward-thinking and smart producers who are moving away from corks. the 2001 pinot blanc has a twist off. good for them. and good for me.
