    Dinner! 2004

um, can I ask what HWOE stands for? Husband With One Eye? Hunk With Out Erudition? WHAT?! OB Dinner: tonight its to be lobster flown in from Boston today!
  2. OMG, I would willingly travel across galaxies to have good crispy Hong Kong style noodles. This is HIGH on my list now. Thanks White Lotus!
  3. Hmmm and none of those names are familiar, so perhaps I'm wrong about the next door thing...
  4. Great report Kathy, glad you have such a great time here!
  5. Yep, and just came home with some from the U Farmer's Mkt. They are AWESOME. Also brought home some matsutakes. The lady there (is this Donna?) has TONS of them. All sorts of varieties were there this morning. Some I'd never heard of or seen before.
  6. Well the people who had CHL's opened... a place on Madison just down from Harvest Vine. Can't remember the name, sorry. Don't even know if its still open or not. I think it was right next door to Chinoise. I'd eaten there a couple of times, early on. Different menu. M, who still misses those goddam cinnamon rolls.
  7. Seven Stars Pepper (do they do lunch?)
  8. I'm soooo there. Drove by it a few weeks back... wondering...

    Dinner! 2004

No, these are shrooms I picked up at the local farmer's market. Now tis the season, and its a booming season this year. I'm gonna try and grab a few more this weekend, but I think we're nearing the end. Dinner tonight: salt n pepper shrimp at the local chinese joint before class.

    Dinner! 2004

ya'll are killin' me with your pictures... tonight: a left over oven roasted golden beet, skin peeled off, sliced, drizzled with EV olive oil, sea salt & cracked pepper. Tasty. Second course: steamed haricots vert, with butter, EVOO, S & P and some boletes that have been marinating in my fridge a bit too long so they're kinda soggy. Hmmm. How to use the rest of the soggy boletes.... yes, there's more in my fridge...
  12. ............and??? LOVE cassoulet.. I need to go here badly.
  13. Ooo, where's that? I agree, Boat St Cafe had a lovely Benedict. They had several on their menu, no? And then there's the long lost Illiterati. They did an eggs florentine with lemon hollendaise that was a knock-out. I'll have to try Glo's. Never been there. Never been to Kingfish for breakfast either. dang.
  14. I would imagine that most restaurants focusing on "seasonal" foods are offering all sorts of mushrooms now. So, I'm thinking Lark, Zoe, etc. Expect to find chanterelles, porcini (boletes) matsutakes, etc. I've heard this is a boom year for 'shrooms, due to our late summer rains and recent dry spell. I know there's tons of them in Bridle Trails State Park right now, but that might be because of the concentration of fertilizer found there
  15. Butterfish and "white tuna" are two different things. White Tuna is albacore. Or, it should be at your local sushi joint.
  16. I think for dinner they are still only offering the 5 or 8 (7?) course tasting menus. You can have them match wines with each course if you like, or do half bottles. They are very flexible about that. And, they'll give you a menu if you ask, no need to swipe!
  17. Well I for one think it would be a shame if you passed up Lark based on your experience at Farestart. I thought the food was wonderful, but it was very light. I'm sure many people went home and had something else to eat. And I think it was pretty brilliant of Ethan Stowell to have tenderloin as the main the previous week. Made for a more filling meal. but it won't stop me from going to Lark!! I adore Jonathan Sundstrom's cooking and think his little restaurant is fabulous.
  18. ooohhh. Might have to stop by there this weekend...
  19. thanks for writing up a report, vw8v! Glad you enjoyed the recommends...
  20. Whatever happened to the guys who ran Cousins in Kirkland? Great brunch place, lines out the door every weekend. They always said they'd reopen, but nothing has ever appeared... At least, under that same name.
  21. oh my god that's terribly sad.
  22. indeed, it was a very pleasing meal. I certainly felt happy! The panna cotta was the perfect ending.
