  1. the bread already has lots of seasoning/flavoring/richness. I am not inclined to go creamy but favor the balsamic suggestions - then againI swim against the tide on a regular basis

  7. I will add that most recipes tell you to brown the meat, I did for years cuz Julia told me to. Messy, smelly, and in my un-refined opinion - not needed. Put it i the pot and let it marry happily for hours. I think my "only eat meat once a year" brother in law may cave tonight. Next morning you can remove congealed fat like when making stock.
  8. Pringles! On a bad flight I survive on them with a G & T. I am still repeating my holiday pumpkin bread over and again - heavily spiced and with a touch S &B Japanese curry powder Bringing out the last of the holiday stuff tomorrow for unexpected guests. Baklava, spice bread, choc chip cookies, and Lintzer bars.

  11. As a singleton I have done a new process. Lamb shank in crockpot with lots of various flavorings including a head of garlic and carrots. Eaten in progression as the meat with maybe rice and veg, next day with more liquid and more cooking and a wondrous soup is my gift. I'll toss in some dried pasta or some package gnocchi plus greens. Almost like stone soup

  13. Oh mustard grows in horrid soil. A fond memory is walking my avatar dog up a big hill resplendent with mustard and almost tripping over artists with easels set to paint the profusion.

    So that rectangular pizza cut with scissors - what was the crust like.? The first time I had it street side in Genoa it was a lovely snack - the crust was flexible/soft - hazy memory. I'v always done mine that way - my kid defines pizza that way. The round thig = take-away to him.

    I forgot to mention old reliable. In the crockpot - refried beans, Velveeta, and some crushed tomato product like Rotel. Spooned onto warmed tortillas or dipped with corn chips (kinds actually like the dipper Fritos) Nothing like the morning after spooning it up onto a tortilla, nuking for a sec, and walking onto your 3 foot square 2nd story porch and watching the waves break --oh so long ago Oh and the only reason you are up so early is cuz the dang pigeons in the big tree outside your window started cooing at dawn!. The ones who crashed on the floor or couches ya just try not to trip over. I suppose if I'd made a pot of coffee they might have awakened...

    Thanks Shelby - is that just for you 2? I love that the "holiday" drives avocado prices down ) My friend used to do a big big party and aside from all the dippy chippy cheesy stuff ( well beer lubed) the winner seemed to be very well seasoned giant bowl of potato salad to be had with grilled hot dogs. Funny sweets never seemed to be around. You guys?

    Yes I only watch the bits online that make me conversant next day. But I do think it is a great window into middle America snack food traditions. Kinda intersects with the jalapeno poppers recently discussed
  25. I am not a football fan (though from a major football school - OJ, AD, Haden....) ) My long out of country sister was freaking at the giant bags of tortilla chips being featured. I had to remind her that it was the run up to SuperBowl The internet is flooded with game day ideas for food. So what is on your menus?
