  1. God I love Flan... ...Shortbread
  2. Wow, Ling. It doesn't matter how manly I, or any other guy thinks they are, you can't look at those candied violets without thinking "God, that's cool."
  3. Cinnamon is in my top 3 favourite flavours and aromas of all time, so I'm tempted to say "everything" but on savoury note... Lamb
  4. Hazelnuts, in my opinion, probably the ultimate accompaniment to chocolate.
  5. Haha, some things are just designed to repel by name alone. There are some things that rather than throw away, companies jar, pickle or dehydrate but don't expect people to actually eat outside of a nuclear war scenario. Herring in jar, is not particularly fun sounding. It's grouped alongside it's abomnable brothers and sisters such as "stewed steak in a can" and "Pickled fish offal" Delicacies such as fish cheeks I can understand but when you start to pickle fish offal, get help.
  6. Wow, Patrick, that caramel tart looks like a piece of historic architecture. Also, alanamoana, you quoted me for your signiature! I'm honoured!
  7. I think Catriona means chili as in chili peppers, you're thinking of Chilli, two "l"'s but cheddar is amazing too. So, err.... Apples
  8. I've only ever had tamarind once, so "rice". It was amazing, adds a very unique flavour to a favourite staple. Rice
  9. Very nice, CaiPoutine, peanut butter always makes things good, lol. Beef, I love beef with a peanut sauce.
  10. Wow, i wasn't expecting that one... Cloves...Ok... Pumpkin, I like how they gently enhance a pumpkin's sweetness.
  11. I suppose this particular product is used more for it's health benefits but how about using something like this Cranberry powder and rolling your truffles in it?
  12. Hey guys, I thought it might be fun to start up a kind of food related, word association game. I'll post something below - The idea being that the next person posts a flavour or ingredient that matches well with the one before it. Hopefully, if all goes to plan, we could end up with some interesting links, so here we go! Apricot
  13. Awesome, dejaq. Cinnamon, bread, raisins - What a combination. I love the little Timbale, peeking out from behind it's little screen. My dessert tonight was somewhat...Less elaborate but it was wholly delicious. Tonight I topped some leftover rice pudding with a fresh mango, sultanas and ginger - Spicy sweet.
  14. Not strictly a "Gingerbread" Cheesecake but this recent entry on Slashfood might interest you. Pumpkin & ginger-pecan cheesecake

    Chili side dishes

How about batches of crunchy corn chips? Each flavoured with something different - Lime, chili, cheese or for something sweeter, some date sugar.
  16. Now that we know what tey are, please let us know how they turn out when you cook with them, peony - What they're like textually etc...
  17. Walnuts would be the perfect nut to choose wouldn't they? Perhaps pistachios, the right balance between two very unique, bold flavours would be good if done well.
  18. Ah the Violet crumble. Not one of my favourites, it's the US equivilent of our Cadbury's Crunchie I believe. Nutella is awesome, I'd love to see a dark chocolate version.

    Cocktail parties

I see... Equipment-wise you'd be looking at some pots & hotplates, then little bowls with chopsticks. Just depends how much hotplates are really.
  20. Crunchy or smooth, LindsayAnn? Also, have you tried other nut butters like almond? I've tried cashew butter and it was fantastic.

    Cocktail parties

I can't remember the official name but it's popular in Japan - Ingredients are laid out and cooked by the eater by placing into a pot of hot broth. Maybe try something along those lines?
  22. Hmmm...It looks rather like blocks of Polenta don't you think? From the packaging, it looks to me like you fry it in the same way you would tofu...I'm just assuming, I can't speak or read Japanese either.
  23. Cool. I guess it must be quite frustrating for some Korean 'Peppero' lovers to constantly have their favourite snack labelled as the "Pocky copy". I know that when I went to Cyprus, "Cyprian Delight" was very popular and they were quite offended when it was reffered to by it's more popular name "Turkish".
  24. Well done for quitting smoking, petite. Nuts and liquorice (yes that's how I spell it) are two of my absolute favourites, all that's needed is for someone to make nut flavoured liquorice, or liquorice rolled in crushed nuts and I'm sorted.
