  1. Hi, Years ago I was researching spice blends and on Wikipedia they had authentic Fines Herbes listed as being a mix of 6 to 8 herbs, including garden cress and sweet cicely...I grew the garden cress and dried it and added it and tried growing sweet cicely, and a month before I could plant it outside (it returns every year) it suddenly died. Today I was going to order new seeds and just glanced at the Wiki entry again and all mention of garden cress and sweet cicely are gone. So anyone who has olde [sic] cookbooks out there, what is in authentic Fines Herbes? Is it just the 4 or is it 6 or 8? TIA
  2. Wegmans kinda does it already
  3. http://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2015/allergies-and-gmos/ Nothing to Sneeze at: the Allergenicity of GMOs
  4. Huh? Corn has fish genes! GMOs have been found to have harmful effects, when genetically modified and an allergic response in part of the population is found. Then they retool them. And before GMO wheat hit the mkts gluten allergies were unheard of.
  5. Toliver they put rice flour in the cauliflower tots. Green Giant doesnt get that the reason people invented cauliflower tots and riced cauliflower and mashed cauliflower etc was to reduce carbs. Adding rice flour does not reduce carbs.
  6. Scott, They arent NEW. The French Crumb Cake has been around 30+ yrs. Its the same texture as Philly's beloved Tastykake Coffeecake Junior. BTW that cheese filled cake is the same texture as your fave crumb. The reason I mentioned the other cakes is because someone was shocked that it had nuts so I thought maybe they were thinking of the wrong one, and mentioned the others Personally I prefer the Apple Puffs
  7. Remember, there are 2 Entenmanns crumb cakes. One is soft and the other is bready like. I like the soft one. https://www.entenmanns.com/en/product-categories/crumb-cakes
  8. Josh, only one dried flower will give you the color you want. They are colorfully pungent.
  9. You can make a whipped JellO icing. And that butter flavored shortening at the healthfood section made with palm oil is pretty good. You can always use that cool whip frosting in the small tub if its still available
  10. I dont think naming names would be good as it could bring a silly flame war here, which isnt what eG is all about. However, I did like her when I first started watching her channel, but as soon as I figured out what was going on, I was instantly turned off. It just feels wrong. Look at the passion Vivian Howard put into her book....OMG that things huge! What if someone took her book and copied it and made money off of it. What if someone opened up another restaurant and served all Vivians food? What if your Grandma spent all week perfecting a recipe for some contest, won the prize and someone else copied that same recipe and sent it in to another contest and won. Its just wrong.
  11. She never creates original content. She puts herself out there as a creator of desserts etc. Shes definitely monetized and accepts endorsements. If you are getting paid, it should be YOUR work. Its not her work. Look, Ive written 2 books. If I found out someone was stealing my words and using them for profit, Id be very pissed off. It took me over a decade to write the books. My Mother is a prize winning cook, Ive seen her creating recipes over and over in the kitchen growing up, tinkering for days to get a recipe just right before submission. So that is how I see this... It is theft of other peoples work.
  12. Hi Folks, I dont wish to embarrass the person who Im discussing (so I wont*) but every time I see her videos on my sidebar on YouTube I am very irked that she continues to get paid by YouTube ads, yet plagiarizes all her content from magazines, books and other peoples websites. She will say things such as, "the recipe called for such and such" or "I saw this recipe" . I find this abhorrent. I used to have a website (non food) that was popular** and it was all original content and I never got paid, so Im angry when I see others STEALING and getting paid. If you just wanna make recipes and post videos fine. but stealing is wrong. So turn off the monetization aspect. What are your thoughts on this subject? * Unless you wanna guess, lol **It was popular enough that I think I went a little kookoo, keeping up with it. Im glad its gone now,
  13. Isnt potato starch the roots of a violet flower plant and not actually potatoes? Or is that just the Japanese Katakuriko?
  14. I have pea flowers, maybe the original recipe used that white chicken broth powder like you see in this recipe (mark 1:30) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhwPQL9dFYc
  15. Okay then why are people complaining then? I know that Whole Foods did sell Raw Milk at one time and I went to get some for cheesemaking and told me they cant carry it any more. So I thought it was banned. ETA: Im sorry Im loopy today I should have read the link...just ignore me today
  16. Cigarettes cause cancer, but are still sold in the USA. Raw Milk can cause stomach illnesses if not from a good supplier, but yet isnt sold!
  17. I mean hell if MALTITOL containing foods have warning labels, why not French Cheeses or Raw Milk?
  18. Yiannos thats being silly. Im talking about FOOD...like cheeses, konnyaku jelly cups, haggis etc. Raw milk should have warning labels.
  19. Nothing should be banned. All you need is warning labels. If cigarettes arent banned why is cheese?
  20. Do you have any pea flowers?
  21. Well, according to that page a Zep doesnt have all the stuff in it that a Hoagie does, So maybe a Zep is a Norristown only thing? I dunno, maybe Im fighting this so hard cause Hoagies and Subs are such a Philly, NJ, NYC thing and I worked at a Wawa before they became a "system". I opened the Wawa on King Street in Malvern, so Im kinda proud of "our " food heritage!
  22. Im in Montgomery County we call em Hoagies. I think its just that one store on Main St. called Lou's Zeps. Side note: What is better than opening a bag of Amorosos and inhaling that buttery toasty scent?
  23. Okay, look, growing up I never saw my mother "wash dishes" before putting them in the dishwasher. We just loaded the dishes from the table. So its foreign to me to have to prewash dishes prior to putting them in the washer, and quite frankly I do not see the point. It is a dishwasher. I have never prewashed dishes and dont intend to. Years ago Cascade Complete came out and their motto was "No Pre Rinse Needed -- Powers Away Stuck On Food". That was pre-phosphate ban. It worked fabulously with no rinse aid. Look, I was at my neighbors house one day. She opened up 2 cans of Coke and poured them in a glass, then rinsed the cans out and put them in recycling. I mention this because I wonder if all this prewashing of dishes and rinsing of recyclables is wasting water and adding more gunk to the sewer treatment systems. I mean if I were to use legal detergent, Id need to use a rinse aid (according to you all) thats MORE chems in the sewer system. So I choose not to prewash or rinse. So I guess Ill still be ordering the illegal stuff.
  24. Ive done some research... This Amato guy was a baker first in 1899, he started serving sandwiches in 1921 The "buns" were hot dog style soft bread rolls, not Italian bread. So its American Cheese and Boiled Ham, and Greek olives. Tomatoes were introduced to Italy from the Americas when some brave soul actually ate one. Before then they were thought to be poisonous. Tomatoes are MexiAmerican. Pickles arent they German or Jewish? So basically the Maine sandwich is a ham and cheese with a few extras thrown on it. Nothing Italian about it. BUT the Zeps, Subs, Hoagies etc were all created at the same time period but WITH REAL ITALIAN INGREDIENTS! A hoagie has Italian meats and cheeses, Cappicola, Salami, Prosciuttino, Provolone, Pickled hot and sweet peppers (sometimes Pepperoncini) and Oregano. That's Italian!
