Yep!
I've shopped at Wegmans since June of 1986 (When the Corning, NY store opened) I used to be a BIG fan!!!!
It's obviously a serious management problem.
I think that the new generation, since Robert Wegman died, has concentrated too much on expansion (opening new stores) and not taking care of the stores they have!
Good, we agree on one thing then. I still love my Aldis though.
-
I've heard others (besides Martin) comment that Wegman's has gone down hill - I guess I haven't lived near one long enough to notice the difference. The interesting thing to me is that the same items cost more at the Wegman's in Ithaca (affluent college town) than the Wegman's in Dewitt (Syracuse suburb, less affluent.) The same thing is true comparing Tops in Ithaca to Tops in Cortland (where I work - very NOT affluent). (This is all in NY)
When my daughter started graduate school, Whole Foods ran a bus from the graduate housing complex to their store during orientation week. She found it crazy that many grad students, who constantly complained of being broke, never shopped anywhere else although there was a Wegman's and a Trader Joe's very near by - both cheaper.
Just came home from Wegmans Collegeville, Pa. Havent been to Wegmans in awhile (so long that theres now a new housing complex popped up on the way) and I have to say it HAS gone downhill.
A lot of shelves were bare, the hot food bars near the sushi have been reduced to 2 hot bars, there werent many people in The Pub, the produce section has shrank by a good solid 1/3rd, the cheese section is thinned out considerably...Something is up!

(why I have this info in my head, who knows)

So for you Philadelphians who dont know, there is a White Castle in Allentown, Pa
There was nothing to do today so I decided we'd drive thru the Lehigh tunnel and then head to White Castle to get my son some sliders.
It is right off route 22. http://i.imgur.com/1UOMF1X.jpg
I got 2 veggie sliders...
Heres the one I ate, showing the Lima beans
http://i.imgur.com/o7Sgt2X.jpg
Here are pictures of the one I did not eat ( I went back and got a real slider)

The texture was like an Indian potato and veggie patty, NOT like Morningstar Farms. I wouldnt get it again but others may like it, it did have veggie flavor.
The Burger King Veggie Burger was a MorningStar Farms and it was like cardboard.
Sorry the pics are huge, Im tired of all that driving
BTW the Allentown rest stop has a ROY ROGERS Restaurant

I recently spent $15 on a 10 pound bag of basmati rice (my favorite rice) from a local mom and pop Indian grocer. I was so proud of myself because it was so much cheaper than mainstream sources. Well, I had to eat what was a big loss for me, because the bag was infested.
The first time I went to cook some, even though it was well within its expiration date, it smelled off to me, rancid. I asked my husband and brother to smell it, and they said it was fine. I chewed a raw grain, and I insisted it was off, and had them smell it again. They still insisted they detected nothing.
If grains smell of crayons, the oils have gone rancid and it should be tossed
-
I also use Gravy Master, Kraft Mac and Cheese for my husband (I can't stand it since they quit using any cheese in it), frozen pie crusts and puff pastry, and I've been known to make the Hormel canned tamale and chili casserole. WITH delicious beans, so there Texas!
What is the recipe for that?

I have a can of vegan pate a friend told me ...she thought of me when she saw it?"...not sure why she thought of me ? I am not vegan and not a pate kind of gal in general ( although i have tried some yummy chopped liver) but i am embarassed it is there for so many reasons. ...i just can not open it i have a block i think ? I can not even imagine canned pate let alone vegan? But i know little about it because again i do not care for it much
Big Edie would eat that Pate up...

This is a crock. I shop for much food stuff at whole foods and go to a closer, "regular' supermarket for kitty littler and other dry goods.
What can't you buy at Whole Foods that forces you to go to a "regular" supermarket?
Well, for one thing I cant get my Perdue Perfect Portions chicken breasts I use, the dog treats I feed my dogs, Stouffers Lean Cuisine Sesame Chicken that my son LOVES and has to have 2 times a week, Oreos, Splenda, Viva paper towels, Gain powdered laundry detergent (I refuse to use liquid since its WATER) all toiletries, I cant even get the STIRABLE Almond butter I use there anymore. My fave dressing on and on......
The only reason for me to go to Whole Foods is for seafood...If I want healthfood or natural food stuffs I can go to Wegmans. I used to go to Whole Foods quite a lot but when they stopped selling my fave things I bought there (I have to go to Costco for Almond Butter now) I no longer bother.
-
DDF? I have never seen what you are seeing (bugs and mold) at the Aldis near me. I live in Philly Metro and maybe its busier here, but everything is fresh and clean here.
I dont buy the frozen chicken, but I do buy the fresh pork chops and the fresh chicken.
Everything in their stores are relabled national brands.

Trader Joes is clean, has great service and prices are decent for the quality. However it seems to me that they are more about prepared prepackaged foodstuffs; lots of it frozen- it's really the bulk of what they carry. Perhaps that's what people really want?
Third on the list seems way way too high based on my experiences. I'd rank Whole Foods over TJ's.
That makes me suspect the impartiality or objectiveness of the study.
Radtek? I suspect its because Whole Foods has no 'regular food"...Its not one stop shopping. If you go there you will spend a ton of money for 2 bags of food and then the next day you'll have to go to the regular supermarket ...
Id be at Trader Joes a lot more if mine wasnt in Gateway Shopping Center in KOP, Pa...That parking lot is horrible,

Aldi sucks!!!!
Why do you say that? give us reasons.

Aldi's....hmmmm. I've never been. Never saw one until we moved to FL and based on the two I've seen in rather run-down strip centers, I assumed they were humdrum low-market markets. I recently read they are owned by TJ's...is that true? I also heard they do not take cc's...true??
-
For us Canadians with a reasonably close Aldi, , does Aldi carry TJ products?
Some things yes. but you have to have a eye for it...Ive seen the same cheeses and Colossal Shrimp

Any surprises? Do you all agree with this list? I think Acme should be lower in spite of their restructuring...And I really cant agree with Giant of Pa being lower than ShopRite, ShopRite is too messy and confusing to me. Giant of Pa is truly an all around great mkt. Wegmans is great but I could never shop there every day, its just too much. And I laughed out loud at Trader Joes and Aldi beating Whole Paycheck...

Glorified Rice,
How do you cook these Pillsbury roti to get them to puff?
Did you get these at a regular supermarket? I have never seen them, but I will keep my eyes peeled for them.
LOL No, I saw em at the Indian mkt near me.
You dry fry em in a pan then put them directly on the flame to puff
^^Look at all the different kinds of Indian breads Pillsbury has

I'd love to try Huitlacoche. I first learned about it right after the last corn crop was harvested on our farm...and boy! did we have it that year. Oh well...
I bought my one and only bag of FRESH Huitlacoche sometime in the late 1990s, shipped to me from Cali.. The farmer told me if I didnt like it, not to pay him. I made the standard Huitlacoche Soup and me my ex, my exs bro and his wife all tasted it. The only one who had more than one spoonful was my ex SIL. She ate the entire pot. Maybe one day Ill take another crack at it, but that soup was awful.

Hummingbird? One day they will find Jazzy Vegetarian parked in her car at a rest stop singing the Mickey Dees theme song surrounded by empty Big Mac and McNuggets wrappers.
And Christina Pirello is NOT accessible, she just has an air of pretentiousness that makes you want to go out and buy a big juicy steak

Horrid not sure mentioned? ( admitedly not read every page) The Jazzy Vegetarian
Seriously from the name, to her lack of talent to engage, the horrible food? I have no abillty to convey just how hirrid o think this show and person cooking on it is. So in an effort to " hold bavk" on how inrealky feel? I will elaborate no further!
OMG !!! LOL
Its so bad!
Hummingbird? I urge you to look on youtube for vegan stuff. Most cooks can make more money quicker on youtube that waiting for their big TV breaks.
Im not Vegan but I really love watching Bhavna. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM4vLyVm4MPhS3o5o729Udg
Just substitute nut milks and vegan cheeses. Fabulous.
