1. I really liked the brunch at the Windsor Arms, but I haven't been for a few years now.

Summerlicious

"Don't do it" comes to mind. It's a good, inexpensive way to dine at the finer restos. But I'd reccommend going at regular times for a true reflection of a resto's capabilities. Mind you, it doesn't say much for the kitchen performance under pressure, imo.
3. Dessert Trends and Red Tea Box come to mind. Though I've tasted neither, I found both to be quite fanciful and would be able to custom-create your cake to you specs, I'm sure. http://www.desserttrends.ca/ and The Red Tea Box 696 Queen Street West Toronto, ON 416.203.8882 http://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2006/10/sw...he_red_tea_box/ Red Tea Box also has some lovely hand-scented earl grey that costs the earthy too.
4. review for Manyata at NOW Magazine this week: (with vague mention of SR) http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/2007-06-2...foodfeature.php There's a Q&A with Coullard at the end.
5. hmn. Must check this out...! Thanks for the reccommendations!
6. Using Yonge/Dundas as the centre point: Omi is reasonable at lunch, can get very pricey if you go omakase at dinner. Great Japanese though. Not all sushi. (10 min walk) Salad King is a great Thai food place. Especially if you like spice. (2 min walk) Japango is great Sushi. Love the chirashi. [2 min walk] Crystal Sports bar is jerk chicken. Clocks in just under $10 for the large. (2 min walk) Terroni for Italian. Reknowned for their pizza. I always go for the pastas though. (5 min walk) JK Wine Bar is lovely, though I'd think it'll be on the upper ends of moderate. Depends what you eat. Nice treat though. (15 min walk) okay, well that's my quicklist anyway. Too lazy to find addresses, but if you hit my flickr and search, you'll find photos for all these places, and 90% of the time, the address and number. And there's always NOW's resto guide. Usually can find some non-mainstream places. http://www.nowtoronto.com/restaurant/ We should just google map and sticky a thread with all these places, the number of times this comes up Like a "suggested places to go" sticky where we can edit our posts to update our current picks. Follow a standard format for ease and then people can peruse at their leisure.

Fine Chocolate

I lean toward eating chocolate, but I can enjoy both. However, I'm less likely to order a chocolate dessert given the option.
8. I'm starting to tinker with the Supernatural. I'm going for less sweet and still adding the salted caramel. I'm close, but not quite there yet. Will post when I'm ready..!
9. For shure, LWH does not equal LTH, the sister resto. Went last year for Father's day and it was merely okay - no where near what I come to expect from LWH.
10. If you're going for small plate sharing, I prefer JK Wine Bar. My Cava set is here, and I wasn't as impressed. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600026251241/
11. on top, after baking, after the caramel has cooled. You'll need some kind of coarse salt, or it'll dissolve. I just finished making the supernatural with salted caramel (on top!). Will upload opinions and photos later, but so far, I like the supernatural. Having guests over tonight and will get their reactions. My caramel seems too liquidy, so I think I need to use less butter and wait for it to cool a bit more before piping it on. My lines all melded together...

private rooms?

...such a tease!! *g*
13. salt on top! My opinion. adds a little crunchy texture.
14. Thanks for the link paulraphael! Timely indeed. Makes me want to test that Supernatural Brownie (recipe anyone?), even after making four batches in the last two weeks.
15. Made the one-bowl brownie to compare against, and here's part 1 of the results! http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600058594176/ After taste testing, I liked the on-the-fence, whereas all three families I brought to preferred the one-bowl. Ah well, more for me! Might experiment a bit more... the one bowl is easy and simple, but I find the OTF recipe just has a bit more of that chocolate oomph. Added in melted chocoalte this time too. edit: I also liked the colour of the OTF brownie too. Really don't like that covering on the One-bowl. Caramel was also too runny and not salty enough. D'oh!

;;_;; me too. Here's the last night at Avalon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600003067658/
17. you're right jende, they have a really good texture after they've cooled. They're really close to the one-bowl I think, so I'm going to whip a batch up and do some comparisons! I didn't melt the chocolate to put in, so I will try that next time. I usually monkey with recipes and would have done that, but I try not to do that with new recipes. gotta give them a fair chance!
18. Aaand, here they are: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600050775594/ I think these on-the-fence brownies are okay - they do need to cool before they get their more fudgey and dense texture, but I think I still like the one-bowl brownies better. Will post if I change my mind tomorrow.
19. Doing a half-batch of on-the-fence brownies now!

I'm not a huge fan of Cava either, especially not for romance. It's an after-work-crowd type feel IMO. Cava photos and comments here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600026251241/
21. sorta - it's about 1c of sugar, 2 tbsp butter and 1 tsp salt I think. I'm trying to remember. it was pretty much on the fly. There might have been more butter too. I was thinking I had put too much in, but it mixed in fine after a while. The caramel portion of photodocumentation starts here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/439685...57600036465432/
22. I used to make Tiramisu with all coffee liqour and no actual espress/coffee... hee hee
23. Made a batch last night, but didn't turn out good (texture) as I have just moved and am testing the oven and I tried an entirely new recipe that required no butter, as I didn't have enough... bad call. However, I'd make this again with a different recipe... I like the stuff in it, but I think I'll experment more. A friend suggested I soak the brownies in booze or something to "soften it up" *g* Photos and step-by-step here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/439686121/
24. Japango's pretty good! I've eaten there a couple times. a bit of food porn from Japango here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=japango&w=27065387%40N00
