  1. There's also cache (book early!!) and a bunch of others I've never eaten at, but can give you a better idea in about two weeks... *g* my list goes something like: - Salumi - Marcina Bakery - La Carta De Oaxaca - Tilth - Harvest Vine - elemental @ gas works - union More suggestions and opinions welcome. Oh, and I'm doing that Savourseattle.com tour thing at Pike Place on Sunday.
  2. There's George Brown as well, but I don't know what they offer in terms of pastry/baking...
  3. I'd think of going this year... depends on timing though... so busy!
  4. There's a main topic somewhere, but if you head over to Niagara/St. Catherine's area, there's lots of fruit/food to be picked/eaten at this time of year. Not to mention the wineries! In terms of Niagara restaurants, I very much liked Treadwell's and Hillebrand's (winery) resto. There's more but those two stand out in my mind. In Toronto, there's a plethora. If you want to try some molecular gastronomy, there's Colborne Lane, (I've heard good and bad from it, so ymmv), Perigee is always rated highly, (I had a good time), but their chef has recently changed over. I like Torito (tapas) out in Kensington, Terroni, (various locations), for their pasta, though they're known for their pizzas, Sushi Marche out in the east end for some good value sushi, and Kaji (so I'm told) for high end raw fish. If you'd like a taste of Kaiseki, go to Hashimoto's out in the west end of Toronto, make sure you book a week ahead. There's more, but you know, you'll have to divide the city up a little at a time. Bakeries - that's another list all together...
  5. Went to Satori, found it okay. Food was okay - went to a party where they had set menu. Nothing to fault 'em on. Would go back to try if I were i the area.
  6. Gordon: Is Fresh the one you mean? (Ignore the off-point google map please). It's at the corner of Queen and Crawford, west of Trinity-Bellwoods? jsmith: damn. are those pages crashing on you, or not loading? sigh. Anyway, I just came back in to note that apparently we're releasing our Patio Guide on May 15. Don't know if you can wait that long...!
  7. We did a Bar and Pub Guide (2008) this year, but here's last year's Bar and Patio Guide. It'd be a start, anyway... Ones up and down Queen West are popular...
  8. Yep, I was just reading up on it to make sure I wasn't being punk'd - April 1, you know. Got my reservation for the last night... anyone else going?
  9. fyi, I just got a note from my sis that Culinarium is opening on the 26th of March. So, next week. Mt. Pleasant and Eg. Hmn. Jules and Celestin are just down the street. Not to mention il Gelateria. And Hollywood isn't far, (roll down Manor after making a dual bakery stop at Celestin/Jules). http://www.culinarium.ca/
  10. Auberge du Soleil has these awesome clams at the bar. Lovely view too.
  11. Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam cheese. Really yummy. And then Comte, because I love it. Barbeque the dude carving the pork from a truck on the side. Yummy. Cookies/Dessert place pass on the macarons from that sweet shop. do try the nougat. It's harder than I like at first, but it grows on you. That nouveau japanese place has interesting things to see. depends on your taste if you'll like it though! If I could just get through my napa photos, I'd be able to show you my shots from all these places T_T And you know, details, names, etc.
  12. Okay, so I got my coveted reservation way back when, (I think that's the most excited I've been for reservations...), and have finally, two months later, posted photos. fave dish: oysters and pearls extra off-menu request: Coffee and Donuts extra off-menu gratis: Egg custard with black and white truffles and chive chip all my French Laundry photos are here on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157604085421493/ The lighting was heinous for photography. also, if you go, ask for a kitchen tour. And then don't be a dork like me and stand in the doorway goggling them all. Silently. Of note, I went to Auberge du Soleil the next day and ate at the bar for dinner. Great clams. Enough to mention it in a FL thread!
  13. So far, I've only had the courage to try making the chive chips... *g* you know, basic.
  14. I emailed and got no reply... ;;_;;
  15. Haven't heard of this, but I so do want to check it out!!
  16. I'd recommend Globe over Thuet. Mind you, I had dinner at Thuet over two years ago now. I wasn't highly impressed, considering the price tag.

    Celestine

Do you mean Celestin on Mt. Pleasant? I went for Summerlicious and found it pretty good. Nice atmosphere. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600972669013/
  18. JK Wine Bar comes to mind. (Church and Front) Any sushi place around will have the sushi bar. Head to Japango at Dundas and Elizabeth. I could go on, but it depends on your willingness to travel and any budget constraints. Plus, I'm pretty sure they're in previous "where to eat in Toronto" threads. Just check those and the level of recommendation and then map them out in distance to your hotel.
  19. *__* That's right by meeeee!!
  20. Just a quickie addition ; the meal was good! Just the beef was really too salty. But yes, this is a common comment I hear about JKWB.

    Ottawa

I didn't get to try a lot mkjr, but here are my shots of Domus if it helps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157600003072679/
  22. Just hit up JKWB on Sunday ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/jlunar/sets/72157601428924153/ ) and I'd have to agree that some dishes were waaaay too over salted, the beef in particular.
  23. awesome, I'll try that. All hail the benevolent Google! I love Google, but am afeared by the vast store of information they hold... but that's another thing all together.
  24. Hi everyone! Dropping in from the Toronto, Canada boards to see what's up in San Diego. Will be there next week for the yearly nerdfest of comic-con. I'll be there with my studio, pimping our stuff. (Let me know if you're going! Stop by and say hi!) I refuse to eat badly every day I'm there. I've apparantly covered fine dining, (Molly/Chive/Modus - I'll eat on my own if I have to!), but only found one quick/fast/near-the-con spot with Tin Fish. Aside from quickie eateries, I'm looking at later dinners, for about 10 people. We're staying up at 7th and Ash and car-less and welcome reccommendations. That way I can pre-program everything into my phone and can call the day of to make reservations. I hate the crush after the convention closes for the day. We're all tired and every resto is always jammed.
