  1. We have smoked ham hocks here in NW NJ. A friend of mine - from Canada - found out about them this American Thanksgiving when she had to make collard greens for her in-laws. I had to tell her where to find them....but she reported back the collards came out great.
  2. It was in "How to Eat a Wolf". Resonated with me as that was how my grandfather believed and how we ate most of the time.

    Dinner 2018

Ohhh... for us it was Portuguese sweet bread for those turkey sandwiches with the miracle whip and cranberry sauce later.... Last night I had some bison leftover so made a few sweet and sour meatballs with some jasmine rice. Some steamed broccoli. Also baked off some beans but not sure how I am going to use them. Aunt Edie would have taken brown bread and made a sandwich with them....I just don't get the whole carb on carb thing.
  4. @BryanQuocLe can't wait for your posts. Love pho....love bun bo Hue....love all kinds of Vietnamese food. Any other foods you like as your wife does not share your food heritage? oh, yeah....and snow is a pain but it makes it easier to cook heartier food now.
  5. we used the word harvest growing up. if we harvested it we ate it.....and that included the fruits and vegetables we foraged or grew... just the way we were raised.
  6. Tenderloins and a prayer up to the powers that be for her sacrifice to nurture us. Sorry folks but that was how I was brought up for animals and vegetables in my childhood.

Oh @Ann_T good for you for being the strong spouse and INSISTING it be checked out. I have a good friend the same thing happened to and he was in the hospital but it wasn't until his girlfriend(who works in the field) pitched a GIANT fit that it got diagnosed. It is so heart stopping when life happens.... I thawed some chicken breasts out. Now to pound them thin, saute and then slip them into a tomato basil sauce I thawed out, sprinkle with some shredded asiago and pop on top of some pasta with some sautéed spinach with garlic.
  9. Don't you have to break out the Christmas trees and decorate? I actually prefer does before they have their first fawn. See you in the spring...……….

    Fruit

With John gone......fruit and veg!!!!! I've been indulging in fruit salads made with grapes, tangerines and apples with a sweetish dressing of Greek yoghurt, honey and basil. Also poaching pears in hibiscus and pomegranate then the next day cutting them in half and hollowing them out. Filled with a mix of lactose free cream cheese whipped with some gorgonzola dolce.

    Dinner 2018

Cheat dinner since I was cleaning after a week of hosting Angie, our friend Mike's rescue dog. Coupon bought Well Yes! tomato carrot bisque soup with dollar store buttery crackers, Miracle Whip and lacey swiss. Lots of white pepper and some basil. Not my favorite but a good dinner after a big chef's salad for lunch.
  23. ...and then they say "I wasn't done yet". Yes, yes you were. I'm used to having worked in a professional kitchen and, though we didn't have a lot of drawers, etc. Make sure every thing is in it's place so no one it hurt by ANYTHING you do.
