  1. I have no clue what I am going to eat this Thanksgiving. I may just find someplace to volunteer part of the day as I am also dog sitting for one of John's friend.
  2. I do that with oranges … never thought about eggs though!
  3. John's cousin, Debbie, and most of her family are actually gluten allergic. When she hosts the Christmas parade dinner the Saturday after Thanksgiving I showed her how to make beurre manie using a gluten free flour blend. There are several out there that are acceptable.

    Dinner 2018

So...… not feeling like eating much last night had a small salad of smacked cucumbers, some Japanese potato salad I had made for John to try and Ro-tel and Velveeta dip with some corn chips.😶
  5. still NO tater tots....NO hot dish. I am a purist😁
  6. I don't see any tots so NOT hot dish.
  7. A reprise from a snack last night - Pepperidge Farm cranberry swirl bread, a smear of Miracle Whip with a sprinkle of celery salt on one side, cranberry sauce on the other and some thinly sliced turkey. Don't know why but it hits all my taste buttons.
  8. Why hadn't I tried this before? Pounded some chicken breasts thin then a simple coating of herb crusted panko. About 2 minutes per side then into a low oven while finishing the others. Served with some homemade applesauce, potato pancakes and a sauerkraut/red cabbage mixture.

The mushrooms are killing me. I love them but they were NOT loving me back late last week. And my favorite soup is Bourdain's from Les Halles. John just got back from a cruise he took his sister on and is resting. He said several days he ate a fish burger and that was it as the on board buffet wasn't open and he hates with a passion being told he has to eat a certain time and at a certain table. Just finishing up the Bebop chicken chili from JJ Johnson's Between Harlem and Heaven. It kinda reminds me of Skyline chili as it has a sweetish side to it. I'm making some jasmine or basmati rice and some plain noodles he can put it on...since it isn't carb heavy for him. I'm thinking teas and some plain rice.

I have the lingonberry sauce to go with those!
  11. My friend, Joyce, is firing up the upstairs freezer at her house as she begins cookie baking for the holidays. She makes some 15 or so types. Before she died I got told "Soko, roll the dough thinner" by her mom,Connie while making crispadelle. I don't have the whatever to bake cookies properly......

    Dinner 2018

It has turned a bit cool after Michael hit us the last few days. Not for tonight but for tomorrow or Monday.... have had a piece of beef in the fridge for 3 days to make sauerbraten. I'm making it with vegetable potato pancakes, red cabbage and applesauce(after all it IS apple time here in NW NJ). Thursday I tried a Taste of Home recipe for BBQ meatloaf muffins which worked OK but I will tweak it a bit. Mashed potatoes and honey oiled carrots and peas. I have a roasted chicken breast leftover but I think I will do breakfast for dinner … corned beef hash, hard scrambled eggs(don't judge - it's a texture thing for me) and some smashed tater tots. My comfort food. I do believe I will use that chicken breast to make some mu shu for dinner tomorrow. soooooooo……. I am having a hard time NOT slurping down the sauce from the sauerbraten...
  13. getting ready to reheat some mashed potatoes, honey and oil carrots and peas and a mini meatloaf. Decided to try a Taste of Home recipe for bbq meatloaf muffins. Way easy and not bad at all. Will use it again but with a few modifications(NOTE TO SELF: spray the pan despite what the recipe says).
  14. WOW!!! When we do our next trip will have to have John check it out...

  19. the food pictures are OK but THIS is the best picture EVER!!!!! I am in love - sorry Sinder and Smudge. Though a pure bred reminds me of my shepherd/lab mix, Sarge. Is there someplace you can submit it? Garden and Gun? Maybe they would take an article with pictures or a blog about the hunting?

    Dinner 2018

got a little cool here yesterday so decided to use up some ham steak from the Western omelet I made for breakfast the day before so it was split pea soup and for me … toasted cheese sandwich and for Johnnybird some scrambled eggs to go with it.
  21. I WAS planning on taking myself out to Smashburger but Johnnybird didn't go up last night to get in place for camping. He is still so distraught about his brother's suicide that I'm lucky if he gets out of bed...but that is another topic. Minced up somepulled pork from the Celebration of Mike's Life, added a bit of sauce, slapped it on some white bread with some Mr. Ron's coleslaw from Acme and wolfed it down . Hit the spot.
  22. Johnnybird has been tested many times for Celiac. He doesn't have that as such but works better on a gluten free diet as he has several markers that make him gluten intolerant and has suffered for years with IBS - D. He also is lactose intolerant which I have worked with for decades. . I have worked in a bakery/ breakfast lunch place that was GF because the owner's daughter had been diagnosed with celiac. We were SCRUPULOUS about keeping all work surfaces/tools/etc separated. As the dish washer I also had two different 3 sink set-ups for GF and regular tools. Since we started eating gluten free it has been better. Hang in there....DO get professional nutritional help.....
  23. welcome, TN. can't wait to hear more of your adventures. Been to your hometown twice but at that time was more interested in the history of the area than the food though we did eat at the tourist food destinations - Arnaud's and Brennan's. I admire your commitment to working with those who need more help....
  24. ...and you can buy individual slices of Spam for about .88 USD.
  25. Eh, you're from Canada where bologna is the breakfast meat of choice - as I learned!😀
