the nova - doesn't go? gifted gourmet - i had to laugh hysterically since i am technically an octoroon - my great grandmother was a black woman from the west indies. just saw the commercial for the first time yesterday. can't say that moolatte made the jump in my mind to mulatto, though. edited to say - guess i'm just too literal

i have to start my day with something to drink. it was muggy today so i had two cups of iced tea. lately i have been living off of iced coffee milk i whiz up in the blender. what i actually eat, i find, is a function of when i ate dinner. i was working with food till late last night and didn't feel like eating dinner so by 8am i was hungry(got up at 6). heated up a plate of smooch - that macaroni, ground beef, tomato and onion concoction every one seems to know. tonight i work till seven and tomorrow till nine so i have to eat dinner sometime in the 4-5 pm hour - luckily there is more smooch leftover...

liz- i can vouch for this. today at lunch there was a couple with i'd say a 2 & 3 year old eating in the booth area of the bar....and lou even put 2 of the 3 televisions onto nick so they could watch rugrats!!! and he won't even do that for his bartender!! lou- i guess since i would rather eat at the bar i don't think of the grill as a "romantic" place to eat... it's more like a place i can slip into and feel at home... important when eating solo. and the parma wrapped shrimp salad was just the thing. back to prepping brownies and winner's circle pies

Ground beef at Stop and Shop in Ridgewood
suzilightning replied to a topic in New Jersey: Cooking & Baking
but how is their ground beef. The one in Englewood has become my standard go-to place. I HATE the Stop-and-Shop in Tenafly. Their produce is abyssmal. I'd rather go to Tenafly Gourmet Farm and pay their inflated prices for their absolutely pristine produce (which I frequently do) then deal with Stop-and-Shop. The Englewood Shop Rite is also 24 hours -- and its great to go there late at night. but how is their ground beef? i'll do some research for you up here in the sparta stop and shop though most of the people i have talked to up here don't care for the quality of the foods(expired dairy, cereal two years past date are some of the things i've heard ) and there was a fishy smell in that department one time i ventured in..... but for you, tommy -
just was checking the website i had complimented ms. saben on and found since i had said something to the waitstaff it had been changed to reflect the current menu available. thank you but.... unless you put some sort of disclaimer( marie nicole's; martini beach, etc) "this is representative of the menu available" i will assume that is what is available. while i haven't eaten there in a while andre's does an automatic update of their menu every two weeks as they change it

just walkd out of this restaurant my husband would have been mortified but... was really looking forward to the chipotle pork loin but it had been taken off the menu just before i hit this restaurant. unfortunately, since it is a limited menu, nothing resonated for me. yeah there was filet mignon, chicken but i didn't want that or the fish. i had a taste for something i had seen on the website( they have since taken it off since it is not available)- thank you marla. luckily it was 520 pm - i was a single diner and when i walked out there was only one other table in the place so the didn't suffer much( though when you pull up the chef and sous chef- i'm guessing- are haning out on the steps outside). i do like this place but... this is going to lead into a topic on the general board

i just spoke with a coworker who has eaten at silver spring farms and zoe's - she considers silver spring farms to be a bit better and said the portions there were a bit on the large side. i've eaten at zoe's several times and have found them perfect so you can enjoy an appetizer, entree and dessert. for the duck there was a breast and a leg done in confit, about 1/2 - 2/3 cup of the spaetzle and about the same amount of veg. i'm headed there for dinner after work tonight - they have a chipotle barbecued pork tenderloin and a beet and blue cheese salad i have my eye on - and will let you know if i change my mind about the portion sizes.

give me the shrimp, anna.... tonight was that oxymoron - jumbo shrimp - with a crab stuffing; summer squash and carrots with lemon couscous. made a key lime chiffon pie for dessert which john is about to try
-
they are doing a pig roast at our lake but are having a hard time finding residents to come for it... john won't go since he will no longer eat pork i have no problem with pig but he feels it is not in his best intrest to eat something he is so close to (like most of his relatives - bad susan, bad) i still do not get his reasoning - unless it is free-range( usually the chicken and beef i buy) or aaarrrgggghhhh.... unfortunately my mom isn't alive to talk any sense into him anymore i have to work saturday and monday so sunday i'm planning on some freezer defrost - filet, kosher hot dogs, chicken, squash, already did a macaroni salad, will do greenbean and potato salad, a key lime chiffon pie. we did just have the first corn of the season - good but not great... more to come

ok- love that vibrate function:biggrin: course i had someone in the library the other day who left the phone on vibrate on the table where they had been working - made a really odd sound as it worked it's way across the table onto the floor

ohhhhh, katie love the sign language... remember on 1 july here in nj drivers have to be hands free you do not know how many times i have had to walk up to patrons in the library i work in and say " while most people would be entertained by your love life .... could you please take your conversation into the lobby?" and get dirty looks? my broker got upset with me the other week because i gave him my cell number( i was on the internet) then, when i went out in public, turned the cell off - though i had freed the regular number. he told me i was a bad girl - i told him i was at least considerate( and considering a new broker if that was his attitude). there is no excuse except for giving birth or dying for anyone to be carrying on a conversation on a cell phone. last time i went into trader joes in florham park i think there were at least 5 people walking around with hands free phones holding conversations at regular decibel levels while shopping. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR YOUR BUSINESS AND/OR PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS. AND DO NOT BE UPSET WITH ME IF I ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS(obviously not to me)IN CONVERSATIONAL TONES!!!!!!!

love jicima and use it in any of my slaws i can - especially if i am doing an asian or fuuit slaw. the crunch is wonderful. we also do a cucumber salad from john's grandma which is nothing more than cuke( i really like something other than the flavorless cukes in the market), flat leaf parsley, vegetable oil, apple cider vinegar and sugar. some tuna that is poached with a vegetable broth then marinated in olive oil, shallot and salt and pepper. potato salad with al dente potato pieces, miracle whipk celery salt, minced shallot, green peas and italian parsley. fudgy bourbon brownies plenty of champagne
