  1. Hi All, The Mrs. and I have to be in Bryn Mawr for a wedding in a couple of weeks. I think we will make a weekend of it and stay in Philly. My wife has never been there and I have only been in and out for meetings, stopping only for steaks and hoagies on the way home. Could someone help me with hotel locations where we could walk or catch a quick cab to places of interest. (center city, independence hall, city hall etc) AND could you chime in with your three must not miss restaurants? We eat all kinds, prefer more comfortable than stuffy. Looks like we will have time for 1 lunch and two dinners. Thanks, M
  2. Theabroma, Is this the Pipian you are talking about? Do you know this brand? http://www.mexgrocer.com/2506.html -A Edit: wrong account login-this is Dominicana on Mr. Dominicana's account
  3. You are kidding me!!! Drinking Bud??? ← I'm with you AB. I financed my way through college on keg parties with old milwakee and bud kegs as headliners. I would compare the taste of kegged bud to grandma's denture water the morning after. Your food is too good for it. There is a beverage center on W 207th in Manhattan also, I can do a drive by later for the number if you still need it.
  4. I've considered moving to Philly many times just to be in closer proximity to the Whizmush at Geno's. Mike
  5. No pics sorry, just can't figure out how to make it look as good as it tasted. I just made a batch of very tasty flourless peanut butter cookies, ate the whole bunch with the three kids and half gallon of milk. Child free dinner tejon, nice!! I wish!
  6. I can second that, when I was in H.S. I took a part time job at a tiny restaurant in midtown called Hemmingway's. The chief and another chef were cia alum and attempted to motivate me in that direction. I was 16 and just didn't have the interest. With my wife attending culinary school now I sometimes wonder what if...but then again I have my fingers and am able to afford her going to culinary school. Even bigger than that though!!! I went to Paris for the first time when I was 17 with a cousin who squeeks when he walks, we spent the entire two weeks eating crepe on the street and bread....I came home with almost all the cash I traveled with. If I could do it over, id get him drunk, ditch him and go eat Paris. Mike
  7. Spend a ton of time in the car for work, if I stopped to eat everytime I got hungry I would never get where I was going. Cooler of diet cokes on the floor of the passenger side is a must. The food is whatever I can get my hands on from McDs drive through to road stop pizza to giant snickers bars. This time of year is great since Starbucks has their Thanksgiving Dinner Sandwich cooking.
  8. Has anyone been to the hotel in Seville that would be willing to comment on the experience? Anyone been to both?
  9. Thanks to you both! My wife is a great cook but really doesn't get into baking. I am going to try and make a mess in the kitchen and hopefully spend more time in it with her.
  10. Looking for a recomendation or two. All of my wife's Italian cookbooks seem to approach desert as an afterthought (not unlike many Italian restaurants come to think of it). Is there such a book? Thanks, -M
  11. for a great street walking slice George's on 181st. He has been there 30 yrs and knows everyone's name.
  12. asked my wife...I just do the eating. There is a good one in the Caribbean Culinaria. Not sure if you would agree that the Culinaria books seem fairly authentic.
  13. Piper's Kilt in Inwood for the wings. Atomic is slamming though.
  14. haha mine is a quick ride to White Plains Road. Patties and Coco Bread, the best in NYC.
  15. Hello! I've been a lurker for quite a while. I must have gained 20 lbs. just looking at Daniel's dinners, Ling's deserts and Percy's breakfasts (the duck sausage ). Anyway, I just had the most amazing pancakes I have ever had in my life (and I'm not exactly young!) and wanted to share. A friend of ours gave my wife the Gourmet Magazine Cookbook and in it is Ricotta Hotcakes with Honeycomb Butter!! (insert drool emote here) I'm having them again tomorrow! My camera takes terrible pics though sorry, its been bounced by the children one too many times. -MC
