  1. I wish to try The Man Comes Around. Alas I have no mole bitters here with me up north. That is about to be rectified - I have a batch underway using the Serious Eats DIY version. It will be placed in the ultrasonic cleaner to take the place of the various aging periods - so I expect it to be done tomorrow.
  2. In spite of a very brief (thank god) power failure - mussels provencal!
  3. That was Anna's dig at me for being a slob in the kitchen!
  4. Indeed we are Shelby - tonight a Fogcutter - a whopping great belt of booze that doesn't taste like it! After coming out of the thermomix I had to keep changing glasses until I got to the largest ones in the cupboard. Thunder outside - got home just in time!
  5. Monty cristo sandwich apparently - seemed worth a try. Ham and cheese between French toast.
  6. I can't complain about other people's recipes when I see the way I save my own! The instructions are just as likely to be missing entirely - cause 'hell - I've done it a hundred times before'. Really makes it challenging when someone wants my recipe and I actually have to think about what I do.
  7. I'd say acquired for me - and a matter of finding just the right thing to mix them in. Not all rum cocktails are suitable for all kinds of rum. I recall thinking a Jungle Bird sucked the big one - then FrogPrincesse suggested making it with Cruzan blackstrap as suggested by Sam Ross - totally different drink.
  8. A batch of emmalish's chocolate coconut caramels. One day perhaps I'll read through a recipe before making it and follow the directions such as 'sprinkle half the coconut on the parchment'. Mine have all the, rather brown, coconut on the top.
  9. Tonight's Larb - different and every bit as good as last night's. Followed by more galette.
  10. Mai Tai's today since we now have made the fixin's.
  11. There were a couple of containers of full fat sour cream in the bargain bin - grabbed those to make this sour cream coffee cake. The recipe calls for mixing 1 tsp of baking powder in with the sour cream and 2 tsp with the flour. Of course I forgot to add it to the flour - but I think I've gotten away with it. Probably not as light as it usually is - but bet they don't notice!
  12. Stewed rhubarb was a typical seasonal dessert for me growing up. Followed by strawberry rhubarb pie as the next seasonal thing. My dad's appetite was pretty poor at the end - but just a few weeks ago he asked me to make him some stewed rhubarb - "but put a little more sugar in it than you usually do". Snarfed it down pretty quickly.
  13. Made a second strawberry rhubarb galette. This one has some almond filling in the bottom. A you can see in the first pic there was a bit of overflow - and in my attempt to control it - I placed the inner side of my forearm firmly on the inside of the oven door. Going to be feeling that for a few days!
  14. We have Pok Pok up here in Kindle format. Shall cruise through it later. Rum swizzles tonight with a sickbird panela rum. Made some grenadine this am to replace the stuff from the fridge that had been tossed. Really miss all the little bottles that got tossed! Working on some orgeat.
  15. Holy Cow... To me cleaning leeks is like folding fitted sheets - I needed someone to show me how to do it. Doesn't mean I think ex-con Martha is a god - but I did appreciate seeing how she did it.
  16. With no help from Julia or Jacques - for lunch I made a bastardized Reuben. Based only on the sauerkraut that needed using up - kielbasa, cheddar, mayo/ketchup. It was tasty if not 'correct'.
  17. Ok - the schedule this time with me working two places on a bunch of days is a bit annoying as far as baking goes. I'm in the clinic and the nursing home today, the Wiki nursing home and the ob clinic tomorrow. At least I'm one baked item ahead as I split the Lemon Bliss cake into two loaf pans. Now to decide which place gets what. Summer Torte with strawberries and rhubarb. Lemon Bliss cake (loaf).
