  1. What's the word on the street?
  2. Da Silvano's is out - I'm sans a red ferrari with personalized plates.
  3. Flatiron is sounding good - I would choose Milk & Honey if it was the two of us, actually, I'd just get hammered at the resto.
  4. Define sugar free in your context? Are we talking something with a low glycemic index or merely something other than table sugar
  5. No offense taken - I figured that's how it worked anyways. I've got a club owner friend in Toronto making some calls for me. I remember being at some model hot spot with my ex step sister (she is a working catalog model and her hubby is in tv production) I don't mind being the poorest guy in the joint but the ugliest too?? sheesh So...bottle service is out, dancing is unlikely...I guess I'm looking for cool type martini lounge then by default. Thank everyone for their info btw
  6. This is what I'm afraid of Don't want jam packed, more along the lines of martini bar with DJ and busy enough to fool some out of towners. These girls like to dance but aren't "great" at it by any means. No B&Ters would be preferred (funny coming from a po-dunk tourist) - I'm prepared to run a big bottle tab to avoid them. Many of my "goomba - Vegas-once-a-month, Miami-twice-a-year, Escalade-driving, friends make fun of so-called Jerseyites themselves (cousins included)
  7. Ditch the honey idea with the soy. Mix 1 cup of soy per 1/8-1/4 up sugar and a teaspoon of sesame oil. Add 1 cup hot water and mix to dissolve the sugar. Marinate no more than 1 hour and then sear. Roll seared loins in sesame seeds and slice.
  8. Somewhere where the girls can dance a lot and me a little. Cool but not cheesy - the last few "clubs" I remember were cocktails and the Hudson, the place in the Gansevoort, Underbar, Lotus when it was hot, a few "bottle service" places chock full of runway modes and C- list celebs. Not my speed anymore so think along the lines of........err......20 something ?? Edit - I heard the bar at the W Times Square is good - true?
  9. No clue on this end - I'll be in the Man-Hatty next month celebrating my girl's birthday with a boatload of her friends. I’m pretty sure a hot spot will be on the agenda as all are currently kibitzing over shoes and outfits for that Saturday night. Help…Please…?? Near Times Square would be helpful but not a must.

    Any suggestions?

Not European but the Sea Smoke "Botella" and Flowers Pinots are a steal.

  12. It's not on the menu at Korea House but they had it when I asked for it (or rather when my moms did) She flashed some secret Korean gang sign.
  13. The caviar martini! Not an accident? I officially dub The "the King of the unsubstantiated rumor(rumour)" LOL
  14. Lots of memories, none of them good. Perfect watering hole on a Saturday for a burger or martini while shopping, sunday brunch, etc but wouldn't choose it over other places. Still a shame though - don't like to see things like this happen around the holidays.
  15. I know Zin is very susceptible due to it's thin skin and tight clusters - I've seen some Zin based dessert wines and am not sure if it's a manifestation of noble rot or a late harvest , eiswein type deal.
  16. Ketel Goose Tanq Sterling Finlandia Jean Marc XO
  17. A guess would be a Hennessy Private Reserve judging from the bottle shape and the use of grape leaves on the label symbolizing 100% aged Grande Champagne Cognac.
  18. FWIW, most of the 98 St Emilions ar quite drinkable, plentiful, and cheap.
  19. 25-30% I'm a sloppy drunk, obnoxious, spill food down the front my me, and generally have to be carried out.
  20. Good Luck on your new position and keep up the good work. I've used Toronto Life's reviews as a personal benchmark in past and hope to continue doing so. Sante'
  21. I think Splendido is a very solid place based on my meal there. The edit is while executed well, there was nothing really novel about it. A Trio of this a la Michael Mina/Nectar or a combo of Pork with quince instead of apple, or lobster with pancetta instead of bacon, an unnecessary foam, etc. It's still a very good place, just not a fave of mine. Perigee, Susur, etc are pushing the envelope - if it was NY, places like that would be WD-50 and Blue Hill. Splendido reads more like Chanterelle or Eleven Madison Park. I think it's trying to move in two directions at once. Given your Michelin Starred crew - they are probably familiar with the flavor profiles but have just had them better prepared somewhere else. This sounds more negative than it really is because there are scores of places like Splendido all over that aren't doing as good a job as they are.
  22. Not that I'm enhancing this thread in any way, but I felt compelled to say that if you added a trip to a bookstore, that list would describe my perfect Toronto day. ← Trust me, I've done this day at least 3 times give or take a place and it's the ONLY way to fly Yang Sing Rocks the house (Lotus Buns!!) Re: Centro - my last meal there was so forgettable, I didn't even post about it.
  23. I always do a Cauliflower and JA puree. Boil the cauliflower in chicken stock and sweat the JA's in a sautee w butter and shallots. Combine in a food processor with some cream if so desired Drizzle a little white truffle oil on the top to finish - quick and easy and my most requested soup.
  24. I don't see the culinary significance of Benihana - If I was planning the trip Morning at the St. Lawrence Market w a peameal Hop around the corner for a snack at Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar] Walk it off going to Chinatown and Kensington Market Hop over to Nikolau Restaurant Supply on Queen St Maybe some Raw bar at Starfish Maybe some croissant an Thuet Maybe some chocolates at Soma Maybe a stop by the cheese boutique Maybe some dessert at Sen5es or Pangaea Dinner at Perigee by all means With an agenda like this, you'll be a hero.
