  1. Tomato salad with basil and balsamic drizzle Baked Ziti with ricotta and sweet sausage marinara Lamb shanks w caponata over rosemary polenta Lemon Ice Came out to about a 100.00 for 18 last year
  2. 7 numbers
  3. Dinner at Canoe, then cocktails and a cigar at ByMark - worked for me a couple of times.
  4. Bymark but there are better choices than both. I'd chose Canoe over Bymark and Perigee over Canoe.
  5. Let's not give out too many recipes - I don't want to have to give you a "talking-to" at the next secret meeting.
  6. Well? Any dirty pictures (of the sink)?
  7. Not always - not that Starbucks is my personal favorite - but something should be said in regards to personal service. Imagine those automated bar dispensers and how much fun they are.
  8. her 'older' show were interesting. but, the take on making her new 'hubby' part of the scene is going to be a downfall. he might be a nice guy but he has no tv personality and i think he knows that. he can barely look at the camera while she blathers on about him. all of a sudden the show is about the boys, their new show, and her husband (who seems to be an albatross on stage.) sad. ← I'm not really addressing her cooking (which in my opinion is over the top ridiculous as far as the amounts of butter, cream, mayo etc) but the entire show, some of the comments regarding english cuisine (Black pudding, etc, ) were rather inane. You can't help but wonder why people have this caricature of the typical american tourist. I'm sure she's probably nice as pie as a person but I just don't care for her as a TV personality. edit grammar
  9. After catching a few minutes of Paula Deen's euro vacation - she shoots to the top of my most annoying food personality list.
  10. Not bad, not bad at all. Torontonians have always been pretty savvy diners.
  11. Morels? Make a mushroom tart - morels are too nice to use in a salad. A straight blue may overpower (Maytag, Cabrales) -maybe a Stilton butter or similiar? Realistically speaking , you realize that if this is a sit-down dinner, your girl will spend most of the time by herself while you fire the courses. If the kitchen is so equipped, park her on the island with you at the stove while you prepare each course in front of her. Always works for me
  12. If want to showcase the wine - do a grilled portabello over mixed greens and maybe a bleu cheese or green goddess drizzle, a beef course, and the chocolate course
  13. We drank CDNP with it and it wasn't bad - far from fantastic but more for experimental value. I was thinking your Chard though.
  14. App? Wine centric Tuna Tartare with shiso, watermelon & truffle oil Not so Wine centric Slow roasted baby roma tomato w Meyer lemon oil and aged balsamic drizzle Entree? Wine centric Beef tenderloin over raclette and creamed spinach with soy & black truffle demi. Not so Wine centric Sweet potato gnocchi with chorizo, marjoram, and smoked paprika butter
  15. Ditto on Bulldog - it's part of my morning walking loop when I stay at the Sheraton Centre. They pull a great shot.
  16. I'll expect a PM
  17. Thank you! Good to know this. ← Try Tasting's for authentic sushi/sashimi. The new sushi chef is Satoshi yamaguchi and he is a total witch. The plates are more composed than traditional roll joints but the fish is top notch and he is really talented. ← Dude, you stole my thunder -
  18. That place always smells like last weeks fish - good fusion style stuff but the fish quality is mediocre (read grocery store sushi at best) for Sashimi and other items.
  19. I'm chomping at the bit for my next trip - my work schedule and along with my summer construction schedule has not been cooperating at all. The feedback I've been having flaunted in my face is that the food is still exceptional and the wine list is getting a little deeper. Trying to work out details for a July/Aug trip and will report back.
  20. That's why I loved the old Smitty's Birdland - Smitty served the best fried chicken in hot sauce I've ever eaten, and after 2 AM, the crowd got really funky. One time when I was there, a pimp brought his entourage of ladies in to treat them to a hot meal before a long night's work. Everybody was always very nice (maybe because Smitty was a former boxer, maybe because they were transfixed by the food). Or maybe because all the real riff raff were hanging out in Nick Tahou's parking lot. ← Nick's was packed after 1:00 am on the weekends - standing room only. Smitty's? boy, that's taking me back a lot of years. Talk about the weirdest place in Rochester to eat after 1:00? The Cathay Pagoda on Main St - the winner hands down. After bartending all night - we'd go just to look around the room.
  21. It never occurred to me that it was a Rochester only thing - add that to white hots, garbage plates, etc and we should be crowned junk food capital!
  22. Mamasan's downtown had been for sale for a while - all the good staff is with Be on Monroe but downtown limps along on lunches 10-3 during the week.
  23. Chen Garden? That's impressive that you've picked out the only chinese restaurant that all my food snob (chef ) friends will get take out from.
  24. Last time there - they're making Ming's on South Clinton a take out place the the main man has been cooking on Monroe. If memory serves - you used to cook at the Dino on Court St?
  25. Parallax is consistently mentioned by natives who have a similiar palate to me. It's been recommended as a must dine when/if I'm in town. Johnny's Bar is supposed to have an above average wine list.
