  1. I do not know how Stephen won that quickfire round. I thought his was terrible looking. I would be very upset if I was served that in a restaurant. Some times I think it is all a set up and it keeps people watching!! I think LeeAnn has all the qualities to be Top Chef.
  2. Trip number two to FSS....This time we also tried the chili. No words can describe how great it is!!!! Of course everything else we had was as fantastic as the first time we were there.
  3. now that's a scenic route! ← Get off Parkway at 136 and if you exit from south go to second right and pass hotel and continue until road curves right at light and turn right onto Stiles St (Linden). Follow Stiles to Rt 1 & 9 ( and left on 1-9 (North) as you pass Bayway circle; about 1/2 mile there is McDonalds on right - exit and go left toward Elizabeth High school and turn right at light. Go to Elizabeth Ave and turn right. Follow Elizabeth Ave until you can go no further. Water is in front of you. Look to your right Smoke House is on corner ten feet away.
  4. I did not see anyone smoking when we were there. If they were it was not a problem.
  5. Well we finally got to FSS today. It was GREAT. Three of us shared 2 of the "Pig out Plates",ribs, chicken pulled pork and brisket. We ordered the sweet potato fries as recommmended as well as mac and cheese and slaw. We also had to try the sausage as an app. I can't wait to go back!!!!! We even took a doggie bag home since there was so much food. This place is a definite MUST GO TO place for all.
  6. We went there on a Sunday and had a great time. The place was very busy and they asked if we would be OK seated at a large table with others. They sat the 2 of us and a few minutes later another couple and their 2 very well behaved children joined us. The other couple was charming and very friendly. I think they were from the Phillipiens. The owner/manager was very nice to us. I certainly did not get the feeling that they were discouraging non Chineses. That goes to show you how 2 people can get totally different feelings from a place.
  7. I would use black fondant for the roof.
  8. Icebox cake.... Those Nabisco thin dark chocolate wafer cookies sandwiched with real whipped cream.... covered with whipped cream and then frozen. You make a bunch of stackes about 6-8 cookies high and place them next to one another to form a log. I don't remember all the details but I guess a saran lined loaf pan would help. When you cut it you see horizontal layers of cookes and whipped cream.
  9. Beautiful job on the "cupcakes"! What did you use for the cupcake liner? Also, wondering about their names...I have 3 year old twins named Katie and Lauren. It looks like your grand-nieces names might be close. ← It is just icing that I used a large tooth icing comb on. Their names are Katie[Katherine] and Lexie[Alexis] Sorry it took so long to answer, but I was in the hospital for hip replacement surgery.
  10. My twin grandnieces just turned 1 year old. The theme for the party was cupcakes so I made them each their own 6" cupcake. They had a great time digging into them.

  15. check out baking tools
  16. If you tend to drop it I would stick with a low end one. I spent a couple of hundred dollars on a really good scale that I love. It is a Torrey and weighs in 1 g increments. If you want more info PM me.
  17. I have made a raspberry cream filling with white choc, heavy cream, cream cheese and raspberry jam or puree.
  18. Thanks guys, the evening was great. The food was terrific and so was the company. Looking foward to the next event.
  19. I agree with a book on helpful hints and tricks of the trade in a professional kitchen . I am always jotting down hints when I hear them but can't find them when I need them.
  20. I do not know if it is open yet. It is on South Ave across from the train station . I have not seen any ads in the local paper yet.
  21. A new Thai restaurant is opening on South Ave in Westfield. We will have to check it out. We also go back years with Thai Thai in Sterling, from when it was 1/2 the size. We went to the one in Clark once and it was OK, but always went back to Thai Thai.
  22. As a lifelong chocoholic.....Koppers Mocha Beans that my Grandfather use to buy
  23. I love my huge and deep ss Franke sink. I can't imagine washing some of my large pans in one of the split sinks. I got the grid for the bottom of the sink that they sell. That really protects the sink from scratches. I also like my Grohe faucet with the built in sprayer. We had it installed on the right side not in the center. Good luck
  24. Sounds great! Looking foward to it. Could you post directions? We will be coming from Westfield.

    Roasting Turkey

I always buy an Empire Kosher Turkey about 19 pounds and don't have to brine. For the past few years I followed the AB method and they always come out great.I stopped stuffing the turkey also and like the way the dressing comes out in a casserole dish..not mushy
