I get a newsletter called "gettrio" that gives me a trio of interesting 'things' daily. Here is a blurb from this morning's: "Could you keep it down a little? And do you mind if we turn off that light? Much better. Now. If you're reading this the morning after the night before, we share your pain. So does the website HUNGOVER. Tap on your keys -- quietly -- and check out their cures, helpfully categorized as Classics, Healthy, or Freaky. There are various ways to kill some time until one of those cures kicks in, such as a memory test or 'guess-what-our-drunk-of-the-month is saying'. If the background color of the site is too bright for you, there's a knob to turn it down. " Pretty funny and interesting......

I find that microwaving for 15 secs, and then rolling on the counter before cutting helps to increase the juice yield.

Ah Leung~ It has been such a pleasure to spend this week with you. I am most happy that you seem thrilled to be in your adopted homeland. It is a wonderful world, isn't it? So many opportunities........... Thank you. Best~ Kathy -
I think you may be on to something here. I am supposedly a supertaster but like bitter. When I think of all the things I am NOT supposed to like but do, I realize that I never liked them until I was in my 20's and started to enjoy food/cooking. Couldn't bear to eat a raw tomato (ecch) until I was 21 ! Now I'd walk a mile for one. (BTW, for anyone reading this who may be from CA's Central Coast.....there is a guy at the Templeton Farmer's Market who is from CA Valley and grows hothouse Beefsteak tomatoes. I had some this week and they are AWESOME ! He picks them on Friday for Saturdays market ) So, to summarize, , some things CAN be overcome. There. Kathy

Raoul~ I'd heard it was March 2....... ?? I live in Paso, formerly of Encinitas, where I had one 3 blocks away. To drive half an hour to get to one is INSANE. I cannot wait. Apologies to all who have none. You really should, soon. (I miss IKEA, too.........and Henry's/Wild Oats........and decent seafood without having to drive to Morro Bay....... I love however having fabulous local wines on sale at the Albertson's down the street. And no traffic, and gorgeous green empty hills ---no red tile roofs a la Laguna Niguel..........) The tradeoffs are worth it, when you love where you live. A TJ's is the icing on the cake Kathy -
According to the test I am a supertaster......and I LOVE bitter. Don't care much for sweet, love salty (esp CRUNCHY salty) There must be something about texture there, too, huh ? Hooey, I say...........

Well, I thought that was a reference to the "Walrus and the Carpenter" from Alice through the Looking Glass (Alice in Wonderland) but that isn't the quote so I must be wrong.

Yes, just on TV last night

A new (maybe) easy one: a fabulous (imaginary) buffet culminating in a technicolor fooodfight (am I dating myself with "technicolor" ?) Kathy

Or as consistent. I think the Pillsbury Frozen guys are ALMOST as good as my Southern SIL's..........and she makes very good biscuits. I can make a good one sometimes but , since I am a Yankee, the entire gestalt of biscuit magic eludes me............... I vote for the Pillsbury doughboy. Without shame. K

In the Short Ribs Braised in Porter Ale with Maple-Rosemary Glaze (Molly Stevens), the rosemary is steeped in warm maple syrup for an hour and then discarded. Then mixed with horseradish SO good. Perhaps you could mix rosemary/maple syrup or honey/ chicken or beef stock............then gelatinize?

Great minds think alike........ my three favorites are nutmeg, cumin and paprika. And sour cream reminds me of my Slovak g'ma........... OH ! that's not a spice, is it?
-
Probably ! My sister and I used to mix PB and brown sugar, spread it and toss it under the broiler until bubbling. Wonder if I'd still like that?
