  1. Thank you for the suggestions. I'm looking forward to the quest! Cheers!
  2. Thanks! Any more tips? :) Cheers!
  3. Gerald - apparently Keith Talent wants to keep the machaca their all to himself. I agree they are a wonderful snack! Cheers!
  4. What would you say is the best Malaysian place in Toronto? Really am craving laksa. Any tips much appreciated! Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the tip on this market. I hadn't been there before. Nice selection of Japanese products. They had a few live shiso plants as well. Many had been pretty badly bug eaten though. (Perhaps something snuck in overnight?!?!?!) The rest of the store had a good selection and picked up some ume, konyaku, etc. Cheers!
  6. How was the rest of the food at Mona's? Haven't been there.
  7. Reminder! Just picked it up today. He had the green variety, red variety, and the green with red back variety (Korean type I believe?). Plants seemed to be in healthy condition. Picked up a green. Cheers!
  8. These are great tips! Keep them coming! Hm....Spaghettini Aglio e Olio.....May just have to fix the craving quickly with it! That Zhong's Dumpling sounds fabulous too.... And who could forget the garlic squid - delicioius - good call! (I forgot of course.) Wild garlic? I haven't tried it. Any further comments on it? Cheers!
  9. So to satisfy a serious craving for garlic - what dishes (at which restaurants) are your favourite uses of garlic in Vancouver? Cheers!
  10. So is there a secret ordering language for Vera's? Cheers!
  11. Machaca. (I complied with your request - note the spelling.) Seriously though, their machaca sandwich is really delicious. Haven't tried much of the rest of their menu though. For those of you unfamiliar with machaca, check out more details at: Machaca Here is a photo: Cheers!
  12. That little stretch of main street is turning out to be quite the value dining spot! Longs noodles, Au Petit Cafe, and the Machaca sandwiches across the street at Duffin's! Cheers!
  13. Thanks for this recommendation! I finally got around to trying it out. The bahn mi was superb. The bread was crunchy yet moist in the centre, the meat was spiced perfectly (not overpowering, but enhancing), and the peppers added the proper kick. The lemongrass chicken bun was also excellent. The vermicelli were cooked perfectly - tender but not mushy. The salad was fresh and crisp and included a healthy amount of fresh basil. The meat was carmelized slightly adding a pleasant texture and flavour to the overall dish. I will certainly return! Cheers!
  14. Or if we start a petition! Or better yet, what if each of us writes about it in Vancouver Magazine. Oh wait....
  15. Is this in the location where they used to be a Korean cafe next to Fiddlehead Joe's? All I could find online was: "Marmalade is a stylish waterfront kitchen & bar, perfect for an early rise breakfast, a light and breezy lunch venue or a starlit and sexy dinner rendezvous. The relaxed waterfront dining with the definitive "getaway" feel will ensure a lively, casual and hip atmosphere to dine and drink. An international flavour will be apparent in the variety of dishes and drinks. The convivial and relaxed eating environment will be offering dishes such as Sautéed Salmon with Red Onion Marmalade served on a bed of sautéed potatoes, and the Mediterranean shared platter which offers exquisite treats such as Aubergine Caviar and humous amongst a delight of other flavours. The emphasis will always be placed on the marriage of the freshest and lusciousness of ingredients. With a visually stunning alfresco space, it is an ideal location for a groovy waterfront bar. The unpretentious atmosphere is somewhere you can take time out to sit, chat, eat and drink or watch the world go by. And indoors, a more intimate, sexy lounge provides a hip, chill out scene for late night drinking. The martinis and variety of cocktails are part of this eclectic and exciting bar list. There will also be an extensive selection of wines and beers coming from a variety of countries but all with the fullest flavours. Marmalade Kitchen & Bar will offer its guests a cosmopolitan eating and drinking venue at the coolest part of downtown, unlike any other. We welcome you to come and taste, see and feel the sensation that is Marmalade." Sounds like an interesting change for the space. When is it opening? Cheers!
  16. Perhaps someone should suggest fish tacos to the owner at Go Fish? Seems like the perfect location and product line extension, no? Cheers!
  17. Thank you for this recommendation. I finally got around to trying it and was pleasantly surprised. The horchata was tasty (and I had been looking for a good horchata someplace in Vancouver), and I enjoyed the good variety of traditional soft tacos. The choices included 2 types of lamb, tounge, and several others. They were served with freshly chopped cilantro, onions, salsa, salsa verde, lime wedges, and hot sauces all on the side so you can customize each taco to your personal taste. The service was extremely friendly as well, and it clearly has a loyal customer base that hangs out there to chat. I will certainly return to try the rest of the menu. Cheers!
  18. Here are some directions for you from Richmond: Richmond to Alexis Creek Cheers!
  19. They definitely do. The only one I remember from Fatburger is: "Skinny Fats" - those are the burgerless burger. Basically all the toppings but no meat. (Same as In-N-Out's Wish burger) Can't recall the other equivalents to In-N-Out's Animal style, Flying Dutchman, Protein Style, 2X2 or 2X4, etc. I'm sure others can help out. Cheers!
  20. Passed by on Friday and the restaurant was filled with people dining, but the sign posted that it was for training purposes. Must have been a soft-opening. The official opening date is tomorrow (May 9th). Cheers!
  21. One additional one to add to the consideration list is Blue Water Cafe. Perhaps obvious as well. Cheers!
  22. The slow graphics are a real "Nu"isance. Looking forward to some real info about the food, etc. But alas, "Nu"thing yet.
  23. Perhaps we should expand this thread out to include some of the places outside of downtown? What are the current thoughts on Kirin, Sun Sui Wah, South Ocean, and others? Any other Richmond gems hidden away? Cheers!
  24. Wandering through Granville Market on Friday I found "the herb guy" back and selling his wares across from Oyama sausage in one of the temporary stands. I asked about Shiso and he said he has it in the greenhouse and should bring it to the market 2 weekends from now. He said he has 3 varieties - green, red, and red/green. So the green shiso will soon hit the herb garden! Thanks for everyone's advice on tracking it down. (Especially to Chef Metcalf for tracking down and reserving a red shiso a while back.) Cheers!
  25. Thank you. That has answered the question quite well - 7pm it is - and year round to boot! Woo hoo!
