    Dinner! 2011

Yesterday we made the bacon jam which was talked about up thread and it is awesome. I stirred some into corn off the cob and it was terrriffic. Now I am thinking any thing corn like fritters or cornbread. Sorry about no pictures, but blind people don't do that well.

    Dinner! 2011

We are having west coast halibut[the first of the season] for dinner tonight. It is going to look exactly like Anne_T's which is a very lucky thing as I am blind and can't take a pic. ; so just refer to her perfect specmon up thread.
  4. He is just the same in person and not creepy at all. I think the recipe that I use for pork and white beans in tomatillo sauce is from this book. It is a real winner in my opinion Dianne Ross..
  5. Although I am blind, I got 4 print format books on food. Happily my husband reads to me. I also got a talking scale that reads in both metric and lbs-oz. I love it so far.
  6. Perola on Augusta Ave. in Kensington market will have everything on your list and much much more. Take lots of money and have fun.

We had penne with asparagus in a carbanara sauce which was a real winner: savoury, rich and creamy. I will be trying this with other veggies too..

We had a wonderful crispy pickeral filet last night; I don't usually like fish skin, but this was very good. Your salmon dishes sound terrific, David.

    Dinner! 2010

Hello again, I have been absent for more than two years because I went completley blind after a severe illness. I have had many challenges but I am slowly getting back to cooking. There will be no pictures; I find the focus too difficult . Last night's dinner was roasted chicken, red potatoes finished with butter and chives from our garden and a green salad of the first lettuces from our farmers market.
  11. I have most of her books. The ones you want to start are How To Cook and Feast
  12. I live in Mississauga which has a number of Middle Eastern stores that carry it, but that is a long way from you. It is also available at the St. Lawrence Market if you ever come to Toronto.
  13. I regularly combine potato and other veggies, because I like them. Carrots, rutabaga, parsnips, squash and cauliflower all work well.
  14. But I am not watching my calories, and I am still obsessed with meal planning and what's for dinner tomorrow: so maybe it is just a foodie thing.
  15. Stiengarten specifies 3/8" on a side. I certainly did not get out a ruler, but I think something approximating this size works best.
  16. I have used this method with success. I seem to remember that the size of the potato sticks matters.
  17. I like Barbra Tropp's The Modern Art of Chinese Cooking the works of Nina Simonds, and Fuschia Dunlop's 2 books.

    Dinner! 2007

Last night's dinner turned out well. We had: Fennel, blood orange, olive and pom. seed salad: And Jamie Oliver's concertina squid: And crusty bread.
  19. I have used the Steingarten method, and was amazed at how easy it was and how good the fries were.
  20. have you tried Rube's in the lower level of the south building at the St. Lawrence Market? He has all kinds of unusual flours and grains.
  21. Matthew, call The Cheese Boutique in TO. They will either have them or know where to get them. You can Google them.

    Dinner! 2007

Beautiful, David. Celery is such a neglected veg.
  23. Nope. I had some great ones at a friend's on the Severn river in Ontario, Canada two years ago. I have been dreaming of them ever since.
  24. Mizducky, words cannot express my admiration for you and this undertaking. You are doing a wonderful thing.
