  1. Here is a salad I made tonight. I had a container of arugla that I wanted to use up. I believe this is from May 03. Arugula, asparagus(local) and white bean salad( I added feta and toasted pine nuts) Dinner was skillet chicken and rice, w peas and green onions. The rice was really tender and flavorful.
  2. When I ship ebay packages thru paypal delivery confirmation is included in the cost of priority shipping. For all other packages, it was 18 cents. Not sure what it is now, since I havent shipped anything since the price increase.
  3. They were about 3.5lbs each. I think they look bigger in the picture. They took about 2.5 hrs.
  4. Here is the beer can chicken I made on Mother's Day. It was so incredibly moist and tasty. The rub was super simple and I used no other sauce. I did use 2 empty soup cans( that I filled w/ beer and crushed bay leaves) since they were sturdier than beer cans. I picked up these chickens at Meijer( in MI) for .69lb.
  5. Funny, I saw that and thought the exact same thing.
  6. I made these crispy, salted white chocolate oatmeal cookies today. Excellent!!
  7. I'm not ashamed to say that I usually look at CI's ratings before I buy a new gadet. I've bought quite a few things they've recomended and I have not been dissapointed. I'll list a few here. 1. The acu-sharp knife sharpener. It was 7 bucks on ebay and it works like a charm. 2. The oven mitts that got a best buy. Once again, they were 2.16 on Amazon and they're fabulous. I bought 3 pair again about 6 months ago in case they're ever discontinued. 3. The garlic press. Excellent. 4. The Oxo I-series peeler. I've always been a big fan of Oxo so this was a no-brainer for me.
  8. I wont be trying the Angus Burger because I dont eat meat. I did, however, order a grilled chicken sandwich last month. They've raised the price, added garlic mayo and put it on a ciabatta bun. It was no better than the previous incarnation. I dont think we have the Southern Style Chix sandwich here in Canada. Everything is 1-2 yrs behind. Not that I'd ever step foot in KFC, but I believe they just got those god awful bowls( they've been in the states for years). Next time I go to MI, I might try the Southern Style Chix( If I can pass up my new favorite, Jimmy John's)
  9. I really, really love the baking pans from Williams Sonoma( the goldtouch line). They're super strong, dont warp and everything bakes fabulous with no hot spots. The pans also have a lifetime warranty.
  10. Hi jo-mel, sorry for the EXTREMELY late reply. Have had alot of work to do lately. There's no real measurement as it's a family recipe that my mum taught me on the spot so here goes... 1 tsp five-spice powder 8 drumsticks salt sugar soy sauce fish sauce crushed garlic water * I know this isn't specific but there should be a good deal of soy sauce and fish sauce! Maybe this could help... Marinade for at least 2 hrs in the fridge. Pan-fry the drumsticks (both sides obviously) until well browned. At this point, mix the remaining marinade sauce with some water (I'd say enough to allow the mixture to reach approx. 1/2 the width of the drumsticks). Taste and season with salt/sugar accordingly. Let the drumsticks simmer in the mixure until the sauce boils, in which it will soon reduce and thicken. Serve with steamed rice (spooning the delicious bronze sauce over) I'm not sure if we're referring to the same recipe...but do you mean the one with sweet mayonnaise sauce laced with honey? Like this I tried to recreate this at home but we didn't use honey (which would be mistake #1 ) and the results weren't the same as the Chinese restaurants...although it WAS fairly good. Very simple (my version at least): ← I just saw this reply now. Thats the one I'm talking about, but I didnt realize it had so much mayo. I have a bag of glazed walnuts so I was thinking they'd be good for this recipe.
  11. I bought those white chips at Wal*Mart last week for 1.58. I made some white choc. macadamia blondies( in mini muffin tins) and they were awesome. I went back today and bought another bag of those chips. The first ingredient is Cocoa Butter. Pretty darn good for the price. ( Please, Please dont give me a hard time for shopping at Wal*Mart. Times are tough)
  12. Thanks. I sat by the computer reading the instructions to Robin as she wove the lattice top. I dont think we'd be able to do it again without instructions.
  13. Thanks. We're lucky in that there is a farm that sells it right down the road. I did plant some this year so hopefully I'll have a crop myself next year.
  14. Here Rhubarb season starts in May!! I have tried for 2 days to upload pics to image gullet. No luck. I baked a Rhubarb Raspberry pie for Mother's Day. Pic is on my foodblog.
  15. The client is on such a hunt for this that she's considering having someone send some of the stuff up here so I can taste it. Has anyone had a Publix cake? What's the deal with this stuff? Why do so many people want to copy this stuff? (from what I found on the google search!) ← My neice had a Publix cake for her bday in March. However, when my sis and I ordered the cake, we ordered the whip cream. We both think the buttercream is VILE. I can dig up a pic if you want to see it.
  16. Its been 20yrs since I lived in Phx, but my one regret( on all my trips back to visit the inlaws) was never having tried Pizzeria Bianco. I've heard there are long lines so get there early.
  17. Hmmm, I always quadruple all the ingredients, including the leavening and salt.
  18. Holy Cow! That looks great. Do you actually make a batter first and put the rhubarb on top or do you just sprinkle the dry cake mix in the pan and then put rhubarb and cream on top of the dry mix? (Sorry for the dumb question - but I couldn't tell from the photo). It really looks good and I'm looking for something easy to make for mother's day. (I finally found a lcoal store that sells frozen rhubarb - our grocery stores never have fresh rhubarb, even in season. I guess it's not too popular this far South). ← Just make a plain cake( wtih eggs, water, oil, etc) and then sprinkle the chopped rhubarb and sugar over the raw batter. Then pour the 1 c. of whipping cream over the entire thing. Ya know I dont think I ever saw rhubarb( in Cali or FL) until I moved here.
  19. Yep, the cream was poured on before baking. It would probably work well with strawberries, since Rhubarb also has a high percentage of water.
  20. Here it is plated. The store had whipping cream that was going to expire May 11th reduced to 2.00( a pint or 500ml). I had 1 cup leftover( I bought 2 pints) so I whipped it and gave everyone a tsp. I'd like to make this cake for my family but use a homeade one instead of a mix. It was dead simple and the rhubarb and cream formed a nice custard on the bottom. Too bad it didnt keep its pretty pink color. The majority of the folks liked the meal. One person said " its not my type of food, but it wasnt bad". I guess thats the better than " I hated it".
  21. Today's meal. Sloppy Joes greek salad mashed potatoes corn( frozen) rhubarb custard cake. Greek salad. They liked the salad a lot. I forgot to buy olives, but oh well. They didnt complain about that. I made a simple dressing. Evoo, red wine vinegar and oregano. I made way too much meat. I ended up cooking some of the meat and just freezing it plain. This is a taste of home recipe. It has bbq sauce( I used diana's), onion, tomato soup, and grape jelly. I left out the onion powder and chili powder. I did use granulated garlic. I also bought way too many buns. Each person only used one of of the bun( they were big gourmet type hamburger buns that I got for half price). The cake was a hit as I knew it would be. Rhubarb is a big thing around here!! Here ya have your basic vanilla cake mix( I used betty crocker) made according to package directions. Sprinkle with 4 cups chopped, sugared rhubarb and then pour over 1 cup of heavy cream.
  22. Just an FYI, I was going from memory when I posted this. I just checked the recipe again and its 4 cups of rhubarb, not 2.
