I hope you'll all report after the taping. His reading/signing in Winnipeg was great and it's sure to be enjoyable. Please let us know when this will air so the rest of us can listen.
-
I must be ginger-impaired.
-
Chris: any idea if we'll see you airing on FTV Canada?
-

eG Foodblog: mizducky - The tightwad gourmand shapes up

We've been discussing throwing spoiled herbs out in this thread about Toppits frozen herbs. For ginger I almost always buy their frozen stuff. As I need it, I pop out the little cubes which equal 1 tsp. I realize they are a little pricey - but if I added up how much I've thrown away in spoiled ginger, parsley, basil, etc. it's worth it. Plus - I hate grating ginger. The only problem is that it's finely grated/minced. So if you want pieces this doesn't help at all! -
Do you think there's any chance of them making this into a longer series? That's part of my comment about a lot of work for just one 1-hour show. I think it would be more interesting if it was a series that the viewer could get involved in. It would also let the contestants show more of their 'stuff'. A Canadian Cooking Under Fire. If it was done well, that's a show I'd watch. Of course it should result in a new show for the winning contestant, not a spot in a restaurant.

Sorry, Pam R, please continue ordering what you want. I rarely deep-fry, so that gives you an idea where I'm coming from. Thanks folks, I will . I rarely deep-fry as well - which is why I think it's ok to order them both on occasion. To be truthful, while I have ordered them together in the past and will again in the future, it isn't something I do often. But they're so good! Now back to the tempura cook-off. Who's frying next?
-
Thanks for the explanation. I had no idea. But I'll still order them together

Hi Jenna - thanks for posting! Yes the public scrutiny has begun - all Canadian eyes are on you. I'll be watching too - and I hope you return to this thread and share more with us after it airs. So - do you have the ear of anybody over at FTVC? I don't know if you've seen this thread on the Insider program, but we've been discussing the network over there. Good luck! (though I assume the winner has been chosen)

In my furture travels I'll keep an eye open for Sonic. Several positive posts about them. Is a Sonic ice drink close to a Dairy Queen Ice Drink? I just pulled a bottle of ice tea out of the freezer . Slushy goodness.

I'd take chicken karaage with tempura any day. What makes it a silly combination?
-
How did you know I'd be a 'hold the bubbles' person? I haven't - but I'll add it to my list of must-dos. Thanks!

Whether or not there is a connection between my Pancake House and your Pancake House, I wanted to bump this to remind people to go eat an Apple Pancake. Now. They look a little different here (looks like less of a caramel, more of a cinnamon sugar topping) : This one was from Sunday brunch, but I'm telling you - now. Don't wait for breakfast.
-
First one of the season - Pepsi with a Cream Soda topper: I promise I didn't add that packet of soy to the slush .

It's a good morning when you find mizducky has started her blog. I still dream about your hot-pot buffet and I love your writing. Good luck and I look forward to the week! -
How disappointing - the coffee, not your writing. How wonderful - the support your neighbours give to the small businessman. But. Perhaps somebody should let him know his coffee is undrinkable.. imagine the business he'd get if he had good coffee! Or .. you could switch to tea. Then you could drink it openly without offending anybody. Great read - thanks.

I wish there was some fail-safe advice I could give you! This won't be what you want to hear, but my best advice is to have a back-up plan. (have the chef at the event-location bake it and you decorate it? - be ready to bake it again when you get there) We once sent a whole pastry table (I think about 10 tortes) with an airline to St. Louis Park, MN. Unfortunately it arrived in St. Louis, Missouri. Good luck!
-
This may be completely not what you're looking for - but what about something like an ice cream cake - using fruit sorbet instead. You could make a crust, or layers using almonds/hazelnuts or a cookie base (kosher for Passover parve margarine is dairy/soy free) and make some sorbet with fresh fruit. Good luck!

I wonder if it's the same company...

I watched the challenge last year - and I actually liked Dana. As I've said elsewhere, I rarely tune into FTV anymore - but I didn't even know Dana was on a new show. If they're going to all of this trouble to find somebody new, shouldn't they put them to better use? A few minute slot on a show is ridiculous. Isn't she a superstar? Doesn't a superstar deserve her own show? OK. I'm done for now.

Click for Food TV Canada's Superstar Challenge . Host: Kevin Brauch Judges: Christine Cushing, Michael Smith and Dominic Cyriax (a director) Contestants: (the link isn't working for me) First of all - its seems like a lot of work for 1 hour of TV. Second - I haven't seen the winner (Dana) from last year, since last year's show. According to this FTVC page, Dana is on a new show, Just One Bite. She's cooking with kids. Anyhow, anybody planning on watching?

Not something you hear often...

I went out for dinner last night and ordered a margarita - but the restaurant's blender was broken. Must find a frozen beverage today.

Add Nasty Bits, 2 WS cookbooks (why am I compelled to buy cookbooks at Costco?) and the Hershy's cookbook (I'm not sure why... I think I was craving brownies). So that's 4 .
